I think Seth pitched it as a parody to trick the networks into funding his Star Trek fanfiction. Even during the first season, the amount of jokes per episode subsided. Season 2 had less jokes, and season 3 even less. I kinda miss the comedic scenes, I thought season 2 striked the perfect balance. This season feels too self serious to me
