While this video fails entirely at being scary, I will say it nails the "old commercial narrator" voice. It does sound like one of the medication or household appliance ads on in the daytime back in the day.

Local 58 is based though because it is actually embodying a concept, not just an aesthetic

I'm curious how they do the footage for this one. Is it all CG, or did they just film with a car and the dashcam?

It's zoomers using incredibly fake VCR/VHS and TV static filters in "horror" videos with also fake 80's/90's aesthetics because that's scary for them, just like old (N64, PSX) videogame graphics and empty offices/hallways.
I hate ARGs and this unfiction homosexualry so much it's unreal.

What annoys me is none of them do anything with it, mainly because the people making them have no context or reference. It's just a filter for the sake of it. Like that one

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh09uIN6tl0

is actually decent, because it uses the format of the device to structure the video, as such the device becomes part of the horror. A stupid VHS filter over unrelated generic "muh lore!" videos isn't using anything analog.

          Anonymous

That series is also shit 100%, the only good video was the first they put out because it felt like something unsettling that might actually exist in the cold war era, should have keep doing shit like that but no, instead
          >dude muh moon aliens lore lmao

          Anonymous

What's the one with the stupid smiling Jesus? I saw one video of it and it was just embarrassingly terrible. There was no consistency to the "analog" element, it was vaguely being presented as lost tapes of a cartoon but it made absolutely no attempt to be in any way believable as a real cartoon made, it was just tryhard scare scenes and those shallow attempts at "LORE" that make me think of the bad guy drawing cels and editing it together, making it hilarious.

The "horror" aspect of early 3d games is barely a zoomer thing, back then everyone always wondered what lies beyond the stages of all of those platformer and RPGs
Before that we mainly had 2d scrollers which were much more self contained and allowed much less space for wandering around

zoomers think vhs overlays are "scary"

personally I blame the millennial adult swim generation for making this their personality in the 2010s. fricking too many cooks. fricking rlm. fricking five nights at freddy's. it's from childhood so it's le scary. everything adult swim has done. fricking boomers started fetishizing the whole concept. soon every video on the internet had vhs "filters" and was in 4:3. doesn't matter what the video was about. fricking boomers. just another reason to get rid of them. execute every single one of them

that would imply they were good before zoomers started spamming. they weren't.
they all started doing it because millennials spammed this garbage on the internet. even the music wasn't safe. synthwave. vaporwave. their obsession with the 80s. 90s. vhs tapes. blockbuster. just a fricking total waste of space. they literally made an entire horror series about a fricking video format.

Tell me, did zoomers fricking made Kung Fury? I fricking doubt it. Kill all those people before they start reproducing.

Well boomers invented vhs and zoomers find it spooky yet somehow it’s the millennials fault for having fond memories of vhs hmm

You're overthinking it. Found footage is an old genre. It's just one way to tell a horror story.

That's Gen X. Boomers are sharing aliased pictures of puppies on Facebook while sundowning, they're not watching (let alone making) indie online horror series or whatever

Such an interesting time on the internet. It’d be interesting to see what would have become of things like that as tech has gotten increasingly cheaper. Now you can edit a movie on a $350 iPad with totally free software and even do a decent amount of audio too. Would be interesting to see where things like that would have went without the internet being so constrained like it is now

Analog horror stopped being good when people started calling it that, same with mandela effect, liminal spaces and a frickton of other things, as soon as the internet figures out how to put a label on something unique all kinds of shitlord get drawn to it and ruin it

It inevitably gets watered down into a set of basic aesthetic things with no substance or context.

Like "liminal spaces" somehow meaning "empty place with fluorescent lights" for youtubers because a famous pic had that. Despite neither thing being related to liminality.

Yep, Terminal is a comfy "liminal space" movie but it isn't spooky nor sparce

Abstract concepts tend to be inaccessible to the masses. This isn't me trying to be snooty, it's just factual. So it's inevitably broken down into some very basic and often either oversimplified or even downright incorrect signifiers.

then you see so many 'liminal spaces' the whole thing stops registering

The funniest part to me about the LIMINAL SPACES (that are almost never liminal) and the BACKROOMS is how fast they just turned it into an even cheesier SCP
        https://backrooms.fandom.com/wiki/Backrooms_Wiki

It's just video game shit with levels and monsters.

Saw a cool back rooms video once, on one YouTube channel, got a little excited a the idea of a new meme and searched backrooms and saw some incredibly lame baby stuff about the gay enemies and levels. Immediately got sick of the concept the same night I discovered it and haven’t given it a thought since.

We had a good laugh in a thread where we just hit random on that wiki and saw what terrible attempts at monsters came up, most of them were really obviously written by kids and teenagers. Then there's the ones trying to be edgy gary stus, straight up Coldsteel level.

Found footage is still around, nothing has SOUL like The Blair Witch Project unfortunately, and it predates the concept of analogue horror because the world was still analogue.

I think the idea of finding a blank tape in the woods is cool to millennials and zoomers, especially zoomers because many of them haven’t ever used a VCR so being able to play a VHS tape is like an arcane process. Anyone who’s ever watched someone else’s home videos gets a weird voyeur type feeling, watching private tapes, and often times normal things seem mysterious when you have no context.

Analog horro can be kino. Notable examples are Local58, Gemini entertainment and Mister Manticore. The rest are cheesy trash with no real mystery or development or "lol minimal space is scary but not enough so we add monsters" Backrooms.

The idea that you could find a spot of bad geometry in real life and clip through the sandbox of reality is a little bit original.

Of course I used to do that in GTA San Andreas, was called blue hell iirc.
