I knew it had to be real. I was just trying to figure out what kind of music she would sing. I like the idea of her being just a local working musician playing bars and clubs and not a huge pop star
My immediate thought is some kind early 90s grunge sound, but I think the idea that she does some kind of burlesque show lounge performance at criminal underworld clubs to gain access to them works better as a story

Silk Spectre is based off Nightshade from Charlton, but all the Watchmen characters have mixed DNA from other inspirations (Moore's described Rorschach as "if Batman was real"- but Nite Owl also has Batman elements)
The generational aspect- that's kinda murky, since Black canary's (insane, convoluted) pre-crisis origin had been a thing by then(basically the mom black canary's mind got put in her unconscious daughter-it's a whole shit show). I don't think that was an influence on Moore, but Black canary, being one of the few street level heroes in the golden age, might've been(by the 70's she had the canary cry powers)
The more straight up "Dinah's mom was the first BC and the current Dinah is the second" didn't come up until AFTER Watchmen

NTA but IIRC it's been a freefloating bit of her backstory that while she has the power, controlling it to such a fine level and making it stronger basically involved learning to sing and was really damn good at it. It's never really been all that important though, just a foot note. I think Brave and the Bold were the first ones to even bring it up as anything other than a factoid in like 30 years with the Music Meister thing.

Any thought of what Black Canary sounds like singing should be borderline otherworldly to me. Not angelic or operatic but with seemingly impossible tone and pitch shifts. Like how they had to do digital manipulations to get that song for the Fifth Elelment. But as for overall style of singing and the band she'd be in I imagine something like The Dead Weather.
