Of course it is. There has never been a clear established definition of what art is.

    >A version of reality that reveals a consensus

I'm in a lifelong search of putting a definition of 'Art' into written language, so that scholars can study it and take it for truth. Everything I've come up with so far has a loophole and unravels.

I learned art as anything that's intentional and representational. So anything that was intentionally created by man to represent something (emotions, ideas, stories etc).

Yes. But just like drawing and fine art resulted in comicbook shit, so too has filmmaking resulted in capeshit and other artless moronations that are very popular.
The rise in tiktok and streaming will kill films as the mainstream entertainment model though, letting film finally evolve as an artform free from budget concerns and investor woes

Probably the most boring conversations I've ever had is whether something should be considered art or not.

The Selznick method of shooting massive amounts of uncoordinated footage is probably not an art, but Hitchwiener's method definitely is. Hitch composed every sequence on a three-image basis.

Martin is not a good director and I'm tired of pretending he is. He should have retired a long time ago.

Kys. He's a mediocre director and he knows it.

He's out of art. It happens to everyone. Most bands have 1 good album in them, maybe 2 and in extreme cases possibly as many as 4 and then it's mediocre shit and touring. Most photographers just take forgettable photos, objective and trite depictions of events that anyone could capture, the most famous photographers have probably had one good shoot, or one good coffee table book worth of photos in a career. And most directors have 2 or 3 kinos in them, and some of them greatest like Scorsese have maybe half a dozen or a couple more than that.

In every you'll come to realise eventually that art and creativity is actually a finite resource. Either the passion or the dedication or the experience to draw inspiration from and create art with it about just dries up and that's it. It's the same in every field. Sometimes they only have one big statement to make. Like a career defining speech for a politician except artists can't draw a salary so they just live off their fame and keep churning out shit. At his peak Scorsese was godlike and probably has more kinos under his belt than any living director right now. Definitely within Hollywood. But he's tapped out now. Has been since the 00s. It's nothing to scoff about though. It'll happen to every artist in every medium

            >in extreme cases possibly as many as 4
most bands make it to 4 before the decline starts, the ones with 1 or 2 are less common. at least nowadays anyway, far less one hit wonders than we had in the 80s and 90s.

No, films are entertainment, just like videogames or watching sports.

this, but sometimes you get a filmmaker who really tries to push the envelope and sometimes it pays off
