This statement is based, but Del Toro is still just an okay director. Love Blade 2, Pacific rim, and Pan's labyrinth tho.

      >okay director
so you're saying he's 99% better than all other living directors right now (also considering most of the living legends haven't made 'serious' films like they used to for up to 20 fucking years)?

        Anonymous

Any director with a modicum of fame is better than 99% of directors just because of how many there are. If you're talking the 1% that matter, which is still hundreds, then yes he is very average.

      >Love Blade 2
That movie shows how good of a director he is, though. Just compare it to Blade 3, where Wesley went nuts because there wasn't a director capable of reeling him in.

Yeah he did a good job there for sure but both Hellboys and his last three films are just okay and even bad at some parts.

He did with Pinocchio a few months ago, are you dense?

His Pinocchio had a terrible story and completely betrayed the original, more like Finocchio am I rite?

            Also
            >criticism of fascism
is an extremely low bar to pass, and this flick can't even do that by making Pinocchio's opposition so impulsive and foolhardy he once has to be saved by deus ex machina (the bombing raid) and the other time he "dies" because of it (the poop song).

He's already announced that he's only going to make a couple more live-action movies and then go all in on animation for the rest of his career.

yeah, that's the problem with animation's stigma as "kid stuff." hopefully guillermo gives us more mainstream animated adult kinos

Has this nagger not watched king of the hill or something? There are plenty of "real life in animation" shows and they are mostly boring. What I want to see is different scenarios.

Why does he wants to see real life in animation? I though the whole point of cartoons were that they allow to make what sitcoms or live-action can't

Guillermo is one of those directors who's autistic enough to enjoy Polanski's directing so much that he'll look the other way with the charges. At least he isn't an actor who just wants to do an oscar-bait movie with him, or a fellow pedo flying across the ocean to deliver awards to him like Harrison Ford.

This mf made one good movie and thinks we care. Nobody wants to watch boring families doing boring family shit. We want anime tiddies.

Sounds sad. My family is full of one-liners. My mom and I usually talk about how hard it is to hold back on the most brutal ones because people keep feeding you straight lines.

Raising an eyebrow or crossing arms is normal behavior for most people, unless its out of character for the specific character. He sounds autistic as fuck there. He's right about everything else. Expressions are literally simplified or "emoji-like" thanks to never-ending anime influence. Sassy poses are pretty annoying. And constant one-liners is one of the worst results of Whedons popularity.

He says all this stuff and then he makes that poop costume scene in Pinocchio.
