the rock is literally known for his big goofy smile, and every single tom cruise character has the exact same amount of edge. just enough to be a bad boy and not a drop more. he's always the good guy, always the hero, always morally justified in his actions, but with just enough edge for him to be interesting
>Collateral
Haven't seen it, which of these don't fit
[...] >Charismatic >wienery >Bad boy >Heart of gold >Gets mad and reckless >Best damn [-] you've ever seen
Based on the wikipedia plot synopsis it looks like "heart of gold" is the only descriptor that doesn't fit, correct me if i'm wrong
>Charismatic >wienery >Bad boy >Heart of gold >Gets mad and reckless >Best damn [frickboy] you've ever seen
All of his characters are the same guy in different situations. He's a charismatic, wienery, bad-boy with a heart of gold who gets mad and reckless sometimes, but is still the best damn [-] you've ever seen. Name one of his characters who that doesn't describe.
Magnolia, Interview With a Vampire, Tropic Thunder, Last Samurai, Edge of Tomorrow, Minority Report. Just off the top of my head, his characters in these films don't fit that description
>Interview With a Vampire
fair, he played a vampire once >Magnolia
wienery, mad, heart of gold >Tropic Thunder
wienery, mad, with makeup and more swearing >Last Samurai
wienery, mad, heart of gold, "best damn [samurai] you ever saw" >Edge of Tomorrow
wienery, heart of gold, "best damn [mech soldier] you ever saw" >Minority Report
wienery, mad, heart of gold, "best damn [time cop] you ever saw"
variations on a theme, he's the same guy plus or minus one or two traits, he's fricking jerry maguire every time, sometimes more mad than wienery but that's about all the range he has. except for that time he played a vampire i guess.
Yeah all the characters have a backstory, I'm not saying he's literally the same guy in every movie, but his personality is always the goddamn same plus or minus one or two details. yeah sometimes at first he's sad or recultant to be a hero, but by the end of the movie he's the same fricking guy every time. sometimes he's that guy right from the start, sometimes he ends up as him, but he's always essentially jerry maguire.
i'm not even saying it's a bad thing; i like the guy's movies. but at a certain point it's like watching the coma seasons of archer, it's technically a different scenario and character every time, but it's always archer.
tom cruise has one character that he slightly alters to fit the role as required. unless he's playing a vampire i guess.

I'll watch the movie but I refuse to believe he isn't also charismatic, wienery, occasionally mad and/or reckless, and incredibly skilled at whatever he's doing which i guess is.... being a hitman, in this one.
just know if these descriptors fit 'Vincent', i'm going to be very disappointed with you.

Heart of gold, and maybe reckless are the only things Vincent never was. He was most certainly charismatic, wienery, got mad, and absolutely the best damn hit man you've ever seen.
damn see, this guy agrees with me. based on that scene alone, that could be pretty much any of his gun wielding characters throughout the years, that's exactly how the would all handle that scene, i might as well be watching jack reacher, ethan hunt, maverick or last samurai (if it was a sword not a gun)

No one cares about that. People go see Tom Cruise movies for Tom Cruise, not whatever character he plays. You want to see an actor loses himself in a role, go watch DDL or DiCaprio. At the end of the day it's Tom Cruise who'll bring the biggest crowd.

Exactly, I'm not saying he's not entertaining, I'm just saying he's not a great actor from a technical standpoint. He's really good at one thing, and fair play to him.

>I'm just saying he's not a great actor
He's the apex actor. Even does his own insane stunts. He's a lunatic, but you can't deny that he's at the top of his game.

I think it's his committment to realism that has kept him going, even at the expense of his health. The only other actor I can think of that has tried to do as many of his own stunts is Jackie Chan. Cruise rides motorcycles, skydives, jumps off of shit, learned to fly aircraft, and will gladly strap himself onto the side of an aircraft in flight. Not too many actors are willing to do that shit.
He is definitely passionate about filmaking and playing roles (maybe in his real life too considering he can't seem to hold a woman) but I despite his eccentrics irl he's good sure, He puts a lot of effort into roles but somehow when people like Leto or LaBeouf do it they get shit on.

hi tom
Cruise, Depp and Pitt are starting to look really old. I don’t like this bros..
isnt depp like a wifebeater now?
Hearsay
overruled b***h
No, the "beater" in that relationship was the dumb c**t Depp married.
nah, he married a beater
Cruise had an itinerant childhood with an abusive father. From a young age, he knew he had to be independent and focused.
He just plays the same guy in every movie. He's good at that.
dont think dwayne ever smiled or laughed in a movie, atleast i cant find a cap on israelitegle
tom atleast played a shady PR guy in tomorrows edge
also his character in Tropic Thunder was funny too

Maybe not mad, every other descriptor fits
>60 years old in a few days
that guy made a deal with the devil.
I mean, he has more range than somebody like The Rock. In all the movies I've ever seen him in, he's been pretty competent

Last Samurai he is an alcoholic cripple and is humbled by the samurai immediately
Edge of tomorrow he starts out as a sniveling coward
Minority Report he is a drug addict who is mentally crippled by the disappearance of his son.
You are a moron

Not him, but you're not wrong.
The only thing that fits if you look at it real hard is "bad boy" and that's only if you take it literally because he's the antagonist of the film.
I'll watch the movie but I refuse to believe he isn't also charismatic, wienery, occasionally mad and/or reckless, and incredibly skilled at whatever he's doing which i guess is.... being a hitman, in this one.

Heart of gold and that's about it.
He plays a charismatic wienery bad boy who gets made and reckless and is the best damn contract killer you've ever seen
Vanilla Sky?
he's pretty great
Cruise is kino, what he does or did in his private life is completely irrelevant, the man was just made for the big screens.
Hi Tom
Oh how I wish I had been Tom Cruise
i actually really liked collateral
the energy between those two actors super interesting
Jamie fox sucks
hi tom
Good question.
Not too many actors are willing to do that shit.
not watching top gun, dont like military propaganda simple as
i know this will sound crazy but im actually not a paid studio shill
>scientology superpowers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meisner_technique
>stop typecasting him as a competent hero/protagonist in protagonist movies
not his fault, i bet he auditioned for the role of the fat brown sidekick in the latest spiderman
that's funny because you can't picture him even playing a sidekick of any kind, his ego wouldn't allow it
neither would his manager nor the hollywood star system
You can't be a great actor if you have no range.
CRUISE IS BASED
CRUISE MAKES KINO
CAN'T BRUISE HIM
what the frick was Cruise's problem
>calmly chastising an immature SP and making him re-evaluate his life and his decisions
based tom
I like how he grabs his wrist, pulls him in and calmly tells him he's a jerk lmao
He honestly inspired me to convert. I'm all in now.
He is definitely passionate about filmaking and playing roles (maybe in his real life too considering he can't seem to hold a woman) but I despite his eccentrics irl he's good sure, He puts a lot of effort into roles but somehow when people like Leto or LaBeouf do it they get shit on.
You may have to be crazy if you think Cruise gets no flak or shit because he's a dedicated actor, ffs even in this thread.
Scientology is based. They use it to evade taxes.
>look up Kelly McGillis
>shit, it's real
If you saw them together now, you'd think he was her grandson.
>you'd think he was her grandson.
I honestly never thought of it from that perspective. Thanks for the horror. Have a Canadian MiG-28 in exchange.
Cruise is probably the hardest working actor in Hollywood's history.
yes
