I wish, the new standard is really boring slowburns full of hamfisted commentary because zoomers want to feel smart while watching movies. At least jumpscares can be fun.

I'm a zoomer and I miss the 2000s torture porn compared to the absolute shit 'elevated horror' films that ruined the genre from 2014 onwards. I seriously think it's a millennial thing, part of the reason has to be that millennials are parents now and that turns them into fricking pussies who don't want to see someone cut in half.
I miss when horror films majorly consisted of hot people dying painfully.

            >one of the most successful flicks
It did decent but it wasn't that successful, most of the other (mostly bad) horror sequels that came out last year did better.
Not a fair world where Saw X didn't do as well as garbage like Exorcist Believer and Scream 6 (the worst Scream by far).

              >garbage like Exorcist Believer
I tried watching that film recently and gave up when I was 15 minutes in and the entire cast was still all black people. Get Out did irreparable damage to the horror genre. I can't take black people horror seriously.
I wondered if that made me a racist, but that means everyone who worked on the film is MORE racist. none of the marketing or even stills indicated it was an African American movie. even the poster only shows the white demon girl.

The worst part is when they have Ellen Burstyn return to say that her character didn't take part in the exorcism in the original movie due to the "patriarchy." Feels like it was made by somebody who hated the original and wanted to dunk on it.

These films cheapen the originals by the mere act of existing holy shit. Ellen Burstyn should have refused.
Hated Scream (2022) as well, that film despises the franchise's own fans. "if you dont like the Babadook and prefer gore you're alt-right and deserve death!"

2000s "torture porn" horror movies were just Saw, Hostel and Collector series and some remakes like Last House On The Left and Funny Games. It's not that big genre. Zombie genre was more dominating genre at 2000s. 2010s still had as gory movies as those and 2000s had those slow horror movies too like Mothman, Others, all asian ghost movies, found footage, Lynch's movies that would categorized as elevated horror today. Elevated horror is just moronic press term just as much as torture porn. Both of them genres have existed for ages and still continue existing. Horror has not been ruined. If anything there's lot more movies coming out every year than on 2000s.
