Yes. Some say it's better than Sopranos.
3 seasons to make don draper
3 seasons to destroy don draper
1 season of fanfiction
what's the season of fanfiction?
When the writers were told by executives to do another season when they were in the middle of ending the series so they had to scramble and make some shit up like Peggy with that scruffy guy and Joan going solo and Don needing to meditate to make the commercial at the end.
>When the writers were told by executives to do another season when they were in the middle of ending the series
Tell me more about that. If the show wanted to cover the 1960s, it makes sense to end in 1960. The last season also attempted to tie up some loose ends and add a sense of momentum.
It's around the time don is racing cars in the desert i' figured "this is some bullshit"
watch the Wire instead
im not a Black person
so you prefer israeli shit instead?
The Wire was made by a feminist israelite that supports BLM
Yeah and it's great. Also complaining about israelites in hollywood is like complaining about wienerroaches in your trailer.
if you like soap operas yeah
This, it's strange that a man need to destroy his own life. But it's important for someone to destroy the myth of the 50s/60s, like pleasantville
>But it's important for someone to destroy the myth of the 50s/60s
this is some weird zoomer fanfiction. mad men wasn't destroying shit. "the myth of the 50s" was being destroyed DURING the 60s, by the hippie movement, ie middle-class white kids who grew up in affluent suburban households and fricking hated it so much that they wanted to start a commune in the woods just to get away from the NPCish way their parents lived. that was the default view of the 50s/60s suburban america for boomers, genxers, millennials: that it was unbearably soulless, that everyone wore identical suits and was a wageslaving office drone and only cared about having a nicer car than their neighbor. if anything a show like mad men reinvigorated the interest in "square" 60s aesthetics. zoomers yearn to be a 50s/60s npc BECAUSE of mad men.
>this is some weird zoomer fanfiction
Jesus, shut the frick up already, you memebarking moron.
Why don't you start thinking for yourself once, you drone?
Only person in the thread who watched the show
>zoomers yearn to be a 50s/60s npc BECAUSE of mad men.
Zoomers were too young to watch and didn't watch the show. Where is the interest among zoomers for MM today? Nowhere.
>everyone wore identical suits
That's because you're too accustomed to modern clothes, which is the same variation of the above: Everyone has another made-in-Bangladesh t-shirt with cargos and jeans. Suits in Mad Men stood out if you had the eye for it; one could even posit a tailored suit from the 60s had more soul than the generic printed t-shirt you buy today.
>a wageslaving office drone and only cared about having a nicer car
Ok, I get your point. But on the other hand it was a time of high social cohesion and affluence, two things that came crashing down in the 70s and we see the result today.
Mad Men doesn't even describe the workplace as a soul-crushing bot factory. Everyone drinks what they want, has sex, the work environment is quite relaxed especially since we're talking about Madison Avenue, so not sure where you picked that part. Ofc there were alcoholics and burned-out employees, but that hasn't changed today even with muh open space and pool table in the break room shit.
Also to note the emphasis on privacy and separate work/life routine back then, but then again you have to rely on the show's faithfulness to reality.
Its actually the best show ever. Pray you dont get filtered
Saw only the first two episodes and so far it should be called Mid Men. It's an amerimutt production so I don't think it will get better. I like historical settings and I want to see sex scenes with Christina Hendricks, yet I don't think I will ever try watching it again.
I believe nu-Cinemaphile would refer to as a midwit or something. I will simply say filtered.
The best parts are when the characters are actually doing advertising work.
Maybe I should just watch a documentary on 1950-60s advertising.
This. If the show was more focused on the work and business shit it would have my attention more. I don't particularly care about don's home life
season 1 was ok
gave up after that because gay and boring
It's great. First season is the weakest because his family is annoying but they soon leave the spotlight
It was surprised how little happened but how interesting it was. The Dialoge is written very well and the subtle events play out very interestingly. It is still one of my favorite TV shows. But it is clearly not for everyone.
It's clearly not for a majority of the dipshits on this board, that's for sure.
It's The Sopranos but without (much) violence and with WASPs instead of degos.
simpsons already did it
I liked it a lot just to fantasize about living in the 60s and being successful. I stopped watching mid fifth season because I was always drunk when I watched it and couldn't remember anything that happened
no
turned the first episode off halfway through
I'm just about to start S6.
very good writing.
I really dont like period fiction though. Why is this show period?
To allow le classy fedoras? Not have no niggger main characters but feel sorry about it? Same for women, to show massive sexism, but then feel bad about it?
Its spineless. And the shit about "its toasted" isnt real
explain how the writing is good.
It kind of sucks, maybe it's one of those shows that gets good at the end idk. I've been watching it because I need something to watch and I don't hate it but I unironically skip through a lot of stuff because it's very predictable most of the time. I don't need to spend a minute watching don frick some girl he just met or spend a minute of betty crying in her bed
It's well made, but Don Draper is one of the most boring characters i've had the misfortune of watching on TV.
It’s pretty good, but once you learn about ~~*Matthew Weiner*~~’s childhood and the grudges he still holds, it’s plain to see the motivations the writers had when creating these plot lines. I still rewatch it every couple years because tv since then is even worse. It’s pretty entertaining and the performances are great.
