is it dead on arrival?

>i feel little to nothing from this poster
>and i think others feel the same too
>only seen one or two comments knowing the truth while the rest is asking if he's still Buzz's father despite it being a joke in toy story 2
oh little do they know...
>if that leak never existed would i be excited for it? probably not
>because pixar's so hell bent into erasing the star command cartoon because they didn't make it, this movie's existence will be their final nail in the coffin to it
>but i'm betting it'll backfire on them, the movie will make the audience remember the old cartoon and see how vastly superior it was compared to what they had just saw.

I didn't expect to see Zerg, the trailer made it seem like it was just space travel with a chick.

      Anonymous

not even close, it's more like
      >"oh no i space traveled too many times looking for a new home and i'm in the future now"
      >"hello Buzz, this is out home now"
      >"no this can't be, i must undo it"
      >"hello buzz, i am zurg, and totally not you, and i'm here to undo the damages i did"
      >"nah don't plz, your partner lived a good life, lolz"
      >"ok never mind, i die now"
      >queue trailer song from "Monster trucks" instead of "Star Man"

      >no william shatner singing, no Mira Nova, no XR, we just get cat robot, 3 humans, one whose the grand daughter of his partner, a short grumpy old hag who could die any moment (and lego inaccurately portrayed with regular minifigure legs) and Taika Wattiti character.

BLoSC is great. It makes Lightyear look so bland and boring in comparison.

and when people realize that, this will definitely blow up in pixar's faces,

So not even the Star Man song will actually play? They couldn't even do that right ffs

why do I get the feeling that the moral of this story is "Silly white cis male, you can't make life great again. Just accept change and the new world. We're happy, and that's all that matters."

because it will be. they rather make a movie of a male protagonist being compliant to the new norm, instead of being the hero they need, because god forbid the next generation of kids will grow up with a new iconic hero to look up to.

the future ruler of earth in the bionicle looking mask was right all along. Without respect, we reject.

If Disney was gonna sell out like this why didn't they just make Toy Story 5?

They must be out of ideas for a toy story, also they needed to replace every voice actor while keeping the characters

There are only 2 Buzz Lightyear Toy (As distinct toys) Characters in Toy Story canon(Star command will never be cannot Pixar), and they thought it would be a good Idea to get rid of their 25+ year voice actors?

I don't know, I care too much about the Buzz cartoon, and it looks interesting enough that I'll look into how well it reviews and also pay some attention to whatever memes and spoilers Cinemaphile is going to drop, but I'm not interested enough to check the movie out blind.
From all we've seen so far, I'm willing to bet that's as far as I'll go and probably not bother to actually watch the movie itself.

Most normies have no idea the Buzz cartoon even existed (or they forgot), despite all the ads the show got when it was airing.

mostly doing it because Pixar never appreciated the cartoon, so if Lightyear drops and people don't like the story, then it's their fault for not taking inspiration from it.

They stole the time dilation story from other scifi things like Gunbuster.

    >Buzz travels around at FTL speeds and every time he meets people he knows they are years older, even though its only been hours or days for him.
    >Buzz thinks he needs to fix something in the past to stop all this time dilation frickery
    >he runs into Zurg, who is actually Buzz from the future who tells present time Buzz that everyone had a good life despite his time dilation time jumping bullshit, and he just needs to let things be

Wait, so the Buzz Lightyear toyline in the Toy Story films is basically the equivalent of someone making a toyline of something like Arrival, and Louise Banks somehow becoming the top selling action figure of the year?

      Anonymous

      More like Star Wars toys

        Anonymous

But Star Wars is an action science-fantasy film.
A franchise with multiple weird looking aliens, space battles with multiple different spaceships, and cool sword duels, makes sense as something that could become a popular toyline.
This sounds more like a drama with sci-fi elements, akin to something like Arrival, or Looper.

          Anonymous

That poster is literally Buzz in a bulky space suit shooting an arm laser at a man in a giant robot suit/a giant robot man. Everything about that screams "this would be easy to turn into a toyline".

            Anonymous

If you completely ignore the supposed plot, then sure.
Same could be said about the ominous looking ships, and military imagery on the poster of Arrival.
You could probably make a toyline out of most movies if you just base it on the poster.
But most of them would be even remotely popular, especially not ones that are dramas foremost.
