is it essentially "reddit, the wiki"?

It used to be good and useful until autists took it over, then it became a competition where moar tropes=better media and tistic fans started adding tropes to their pet franchisee for the flimsiest reasons, bloating the site to uselessness

    Every website is reddit now.
Quora is "reddit, the Yahoo Answers"
    Cinemaphile is "reddit, the imageboard"
    Twitter is "reddit, the Cinemaphile"
Facebook is "reddit, the Craigslist / obituary section of the newspaper"
Instagram and LinkedIn are "reddit, the Facebook"

    >Super Grimdark Sauce: In David the Gnome, David owns two mice. Why did he keep pets if he knew he was going to die someday? Because he was experimenting with how to extend his life. There are two mice, one for himself, and one for his wife. Also, he's very private with how Gnome magic works, while eager to explain everything else. Only when the experiment failed and he couldn't postpone his death any longer was when he released his two prisoners.

I go there, occasionally you can find other works by taking a wiki walk.
It's how I found The Night Land, The Peoria Plague, and others.
If you're into searching for niche fiction, it's a decent place to poke around. There's always some autist dumping new pages, but you have to be careful when reading the actual tropes because fundamental misunderstandings of works and really stupid personal interpretations are all over the place. Also the anime pages are totally unusable because there the autism is way over the top so every single anime character and work had 10,000 tropes applied to them.

Read it at your own discretion. Because it's the kind of website that makes you want to bang your head on the table, every time there's an article with a ridiculous name whose analysis is difficult to tolerate, as said by .

I read the page on the exorcist for some reason once and it was full of shit like
      >this was shocking in the '70s but of course we now know that little girls cursing and jerking off and penetrative themselves with foreign objects is perfectly normal and healthy
written by some highly prolific pedo s0ijak wiki editor, who I suspect was a fems0ijak.

I forgot about the Dr. Who gays who go to literally every single piece of media and put a tab under the guessing page and associate it with Dr. Who.
        >Sailor Moon takes place in Dr. Who, the series is happening inside a malfunctioning TARDIS.

It's always been shit with glimmers of decent quality but it's become almost entirely shit since they started purging useful notes pages and real life examples because they were written by people who actually knew what they were talking about and didn't just regurgitate contemporary middle school talking points
The power centralizing on a handful of power editors who use a nebulous threat of "losing monetization" to ban and revert anything they dislike also means a lot of work pages have been purged simply for being unpopular with the current editors and the entire site at this point is based around Dr Who, Buffy, and MLP, which conspicuously got completely ignored during the whole "changing trope names so they don't reference specific shows"

That. And aside from the fact that those sections aren't good ideas to have in the first place, they're still acting like others outside of their circle owes them a "Most Sanest Website of the Decade" award.

While TVtropes appears to be a collection of trivia, it is also helpful for identifying so called woke ideology presented as tropes. For example, one could attempt to explain why Robert April is African American in the current Star Trek continuity, but with no reasonable explanation within the story itself, the wokeness becomes more evident. This causes African Americans to become a sort of plot hole or continuity error. By identifying this discrepancy, one becomes more aware of media as a tool of propaganda rather than a storytelling medium in and of itself.

It used to be interesting when they had lists of actual tropes, but now every other word in a show summary is some moronic string of blue text links like Adaptational Jerkass or Yiddish as a Second Language. Every minor facet of a show or movie has a fricking trope page now. wtf is this shit?
