also why are they trying to make that really annoying lispy gay asian twink the new star of the show suddenly? with all the old cast members that left, it seems so obvious theyre trying to push him as the new star, he was literally in every sketch. big mistake, he has zero range and his whole thing is just playing everything super over the top gay. we saw what happened with Bros didnt we? America has spoken, they done like gay comedy!

because modern SNL is mostly enjoyed by women and queer theater camp kids. the 90s cast with Spade, Rock, Farley and Sandler was the only time SNL was aimed at the BRO! audience and we cant have that kind of toxic maleness on tv anymore

if SNL wanted an obnoxious gay in the cast shoulda went with Tim Dillon or Ian Fidance at least theyre funny

A supposed cast member posted that he will be heavily pushed as the next best thing. It was probably an intern or some unknown shitposter but what a happy coincidence.

we coulda had Shane Gillis but because he made an asian hate crime we had to get some woke asian twink instead, its all Shanes fault, now SNL will never hire anyone with even a little bit of edge again, he ruined it for all the chud comedians

Saturday Night Live has never been good. Even if you go back and watch the 'classic' sketches everyone loves they're mostly trash.
The handful of times in it's 50 year history the show put out a decent sketch, they would immediately run it into the ground by either doing it again every week for the next month or making a 90 minute movie out of a premise that was only meant to work for five.
They say actually being in the audience makes it 100 times better, and I'm sure it does. But all that means is after half a century of being given carte blanche by one of the largest media conglomerates in the world to do whatever they want, they still haven't figured out how to translate that over broadcast.
So yes, it's trash now. But it was also trash 10 years ago, and 20 years ago, and so on, all the way back to 1975.

Mainstream comedy must undergo the scrutiny of the online mob, particularity those on the left. This leaves content safe, boring, pandering, hollow and for complete morons. This goes for more than comedy as well. Just look elsewhere.

I don't understand why millennials all grew up to hate comedy, they love everything else from the 80s-90s

Because no one actually tells jokes anymore. Leftist "comedians" just spend an hour talking about all the times they got raped and why orange man bad, and right wing "comedians" do nothing but whine about how they're being cancelled and silenced to their 200 thousand Twitter followers and to the audience at their sold out show.
Somewhere in the last decade comedy stopped having jokes and just became airing exaggerated if not outright imagined grievances to crowds who apparently don't get enough of having their own opinions regurgitated back at them from their respective social media bubbles.

Maybe it was Louis CK's style of comedy that did it...even if he was canceled individually

Comedy of that era was mostly driven by an edgier GenX that rejected the goofy slapstick shit the previous generations hyucked at which devolved into dull family friendly garbage. Millennials meanwhile were always destined to ere toward that style of "funny but not in an offensive way" because they grew up on...family friendly slapstick and funny faces just like their parents. Anything else wasn't allowed to sully children's innocent ears.

Here the first thing out of the c**t's mouth is "THE MARKETPLACE IS DECIDING WHAT'S APPROPRIATE". Millennials exist to consume, so changing the market means changing their opinions and taste entirely.

it's wild because generally people like the type of content that they grew up with, but millennials pulled a 180 and now like grandma shit.

As another anon pointed out they're pushing Bowen because he's the best they have right now and he's awful so things aren't good these days. Isn't Lorne quitting soon anyway or was that just some bullshit I read within the last year or two?

One thing that I feel is overlooked is the musical guests and what the say about the general ethos of the show. There was a time when SNL was booking acts that were incredibly good and interesting but had limited commercial success (Sun Ra, Devo before “Whip It”, Gil Scott Heron, John Prine, Suburban Lawns, Captain Beefheart, etc.) and this was indicative of the show’s overall desire to be cutting edge which bled over to the performers and sketches. Now it’s mostly just whoever is popular at the moment. When was the last time they had a weird underground act? Sleigh Bells like 10 years ago?

it was always a C+ show with one or two sketches a week that were passable. Even classic SNL is unwatchable. The notoriety comes from people repeating punchlines and bits without the other 29 minutes of schlock.
