In the books Grant is purposefully not giving the girl a thumbs up on her PhD paper or whatever because he doesn't want to be alone. Also in the books the boy is the older sibling and the one that does all the coding shit to cope with his father being abusive and his parent's divorce. Say what you want about the book being terrible but that shit is pretty ironed out

Lost World is meh because Universal wanted another Jurassic Park, so the book was even worse being written just for commercial gain and the movie suffers.
Jurassic Park 3 is a cash grab but somehow better than Lost World as it takes the cut content from the first book that wasn't in the first movie and again makes it better just like the first movie. The underlying plot though is still far worse than the first movie though.

The best part of Lost World is the beginning with the beach and the girl (which is from the first book) and meeting with Hammond (who is dead in the books) so totally original shit.
