      What happened was basically
      >signs Archie's contract saying that Sega owns the rights to the characters he creates
      >learns that Archie misplaced the contract
      >lie about never having signed one, meaning his characters are his property
      >Archie's photocopy of the contract is not legal proof he signed it so he kind of gets away with it

The documents are online now and reading them, it seems a lot was exaggerated plus it doesn't sound as good as "moron now own's sonic oc's"

          Anonymous

Right, it's more like the battle is too expensive for what they're worth. Sega may have seen it as an opportunity to appropriately cut the fat of American OCs and plot lines to redirect and start fresh with something more on brand. Which isn't to say thar Flynn wasn't doing his best to salvage everything in that direction, it was just too little too late. One too many Iron Walrus stories.

          >But we also are not going to press charges if he decides to profit off of the characters he claims to own
Seeing how Penders has yet to make a single dime off his crap, it isn't exactly working in his favour and he is the only one to blame due to being a lazy piece of shit.

All he has to do is throw some cash to a few people on fiver to help him get a draft going if he really gave a shit about these characters. I guess they only really mean anything to HIM and that without the existing framework of an already created universe to bounce ideas off of, work ideas into and continually get a creative spark from [even if it turns into a feedback loop as it does with most creators] he isn't talented/motivated enough to build something from the ground up. Which is probably indicative of the level of his storytelling.

He's essentially Evil Don Rosa. Both claim ownership over what they did. The difference is that Rose insists that there is no Scrooge without he and Barks' work and should therefore be considered his creator, like how other comic book authors are credited as the creators of characters; even if they don't OWN the characters. Penders, however, believes he should OWN the characters wholesale; copyrighted design be damned.

          >The difference is that Rose insists that there is no Scrooge without he and Barks' work and should therefore be considered his creator,
Rosa only says this about Barks. He does not elevate his own work to that level. Might have thought like that during his time working on the comics, maybe, but not these days.

Lulz. Even as far as his failed single-issue Magnum Opus went, Penders would shoop a bunch of photographs to avoid drawing backgrounds more complex than a concrete slab or a simple house.

I'm glad Cinemaphile is smart enough to understand that despite both being in Sonic's orbit and obsessed with OCs, Penders really isn't much like CWC. Penders is a different brand of interesting because he's a would-be paperback genre-fiction writer who ended up working on kid's comics and setting his anchor from that.

It's like Cameron's Avatar, which I best heard described as looking like something from a 90's European point and click adventure game from the 90s. There's just no consideration for aesthetics, it's just trying to make a weird middle ground between aliens ,humans, and a few other elements but leaning largely to manifesting these really photorealistic faces on them. It's got the same uncanny feel of 80's/90's sci-fi/fantasy illustrations where the artists didn't really know how to depict fictional races without making them some sort of human, but rendered the frick out of them .

Just random 90's Eurojank software done in the early days of 3D software. A lot were done by people who were learning as they were going.
You're right that it's sort of insulting because a lot of those are quite soulful all things considered. But Pender's art feels like someone just took home CGI software from 1998 and didn't know what he was doing.

My guess is that he has legitimate brain damage or even some kind of congenital brain defect. Lack of self-awareness and inability to conceive of one's actions from an outside perspective are pretty common in people with severe mental instability and mental illness.

Rob Liefeld and Bum Tickley eventually learned to draw better. They literally grew up, learned to try harder, faced their faults, and worked towards improving. Guys like Chris-chan and Penders are likely fully incapable of ever doing that because they can't perceive their own faults and can't even begin to understand how other people can see a problem with what they do.

Penders is an ok draftsman, if anything he gotten worse. Problem is he has no real eye for aesthetics and when you start making inhuman characters you really need to make them pleasing to the eye as to not hit the uncanny Valley.
Furries, for whatever people want to hate about them, tend to have decent grasps of cohesive aesthetics. At least popular furry artists compared to Penders. Pender’s problem is that he isn’t a furry, he has no idea how to ,and these characters attractive.

There are teenage artists who haven't been alive for as long as Penders has been a professional artist who are already better draftsmen, artists, designers, and storytellers. He's got no excuse.

            Anonymous

There's a ton of teenage artists that are better than any boomer artists or even millennial artists from just 15 years ago. The last 10 years have created a larger wave of young artists who are better than probably any other point in history besides the days of the old masters who raised painters from childhood to master painting. All these kids with tablets since age 7 blow decades of older artists away before they're 24.

That's from his "The Lost Ones" comic. I have saved all the scans that were storytimed here, but I don't know if there is a point to storytime it again.

I storytimed it here https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/131979414/#131979414 , pages are still loading up. Basically, it was Ken Penders' attempt at releasing his own comic under Image. It was cancelled after a single issue due to - surprisingly enough - lack of interest from comic book readers.

Sounds like it's either an excuse to procrastinate or he's so far up his own ass about his "vision" of his series and characters and events and timelines that only mean something *him* that he can afford to sit on his ass working at a glacial pace. Maybe he wants to ape the media and presentation Homestuck had since his own art is falling flat.

Not even close. Ken Penders is the only person who knew how to evolve sonic past it's childish narrative and evolve it into true literary art. He knew the next logical step was to move away from Sonic to the more at the time, popular character Knuckles. We would all be better of if Sega actually read his books and made games around his stories. They already did it with Sonic Chronicles. Sega is on its way out the door if they don't change course soon.
