Well yeah but that doesn't make sense, the movie clearly states that THIS was the movie that made Andy want a Buzz Toy, why not just show Andy tunning into the satAM cartoon at the end of the movie?
Maybe they simply thought putting >"In 1995 Andy got a toy based on his favorite character" >"this is the original movie the cartoon Andy saw about that character is based from"
Would be a bit complicated and stupid.
Yeah honestly, the framing of them saying "this was the movie that made him buy a lightyear toy" is weird, but it kinda makes sense if you grew up in the time period but they leaned to hard on saying "this is the toy of the movie."
Honestly the script needed a few more rewrites including rewriting the godawful Taika Watiti character. I thought the beginning with him being obsessed with "the mission" and then watching his partner die was good but the movie immediately burns out after that.

It definitely was the better part of the movie, at some point i thought we would eventually get the suit the toy has but the fact that the laser was an attachment and that the winds were part of the ejection system from the ship was the dumbest shit ever.
Honestly it makes the entire thing so far removed it's bazaar. Like why did this get a theatre release and turning red go to disney plus? Turning red was definitely more theatre worthy
>Like why did this get a theatre release and turning red go to disney plus?
Out of Soul, Luca, and Turning Red I can definitely day this would have gotten the same treatment if it wasn't a Toy Story spinoff. At least the later three movies tried to do a Ghibli "slice of life" small town thing with hyper detailed animation. This feels like discount star wars crap.
It's just a babies version of interstellar, not star wars. But why was it buzz lightyear? Could've just been another IP and I think people would've liked it more
Someone probably realized that the script is week and said 'let's make the main character Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. People love that franchise so it will sell'.
But at some point this whole farce with 'don't say gay' happened and people responsible for the movie forced the producers to not cut the lesbian kiss scene.
I think this, and the publicity surrounding it hurt the film the most. The general audiences are pigs eating slop. They don't have real taste as they already proved by watching all those soulless Disney remakes, so that's obviously not the reason why this movie failed. It was the kiss.
The internet and most media are highly dominated by "SJW" types in 2022, although it used to be the opposite back in 2016 and before. It's mind-numbing that people get so worked up about this bullshit, but it's probably heavily tied to dopamine addiction. I think there is peace in just having a hobby and just using your free time on that outside of work.
"oh no how sad for you, you didn't like our movie because of the gay shit, and it's it's a massive failure, let me play you the world's smallest violin, you're so butthurt"
Why is hollywood making movies for homosexuals I thought it was about provit.
Are there enough people who wanna see movies that are just lame leftist narratives, with black and white worldview.
I'm just too tired of israelitehood making uncreative untalented ''actors'' rich while probably giving mininum pay to animators who have to animate this garbage.
I don't know why but seeing Buzz with hair was really off putting I guess I assumed his purple head gear was a space cap but never really thought about it
>Is Lightyear a worthy origin story for Buzz?
Nope. It's another rudimentary white male emasculation """story""" Hollywood's been shitting out for the past decade, laced in heaps of soullessness & corporate exploitation. >Buzz is a generic nice guy + cuck. >There's a bunch of black people who have virtually no character arcs of any kind. >The lead black girl is better than Buzz and acts like a mentor to him. Her granchild, who looks mostly like her, is also better than Buzz and also acts like a mentor to him. >Buzz felt completely out-of-character compared to Toy Story & Star Command. >Zurg is an evil version of Buzz from the future.
I fail to see how this would appeal to children today since most would find it too boring to be memorable. If it was meant for those who grew up with Toy Story, they shit the bed then, because adults of now who were those same kids back then don't actually like this movie. Seriously, who was this film made for?
I grew up on Toy Story and I thought the old Buzz Lightyear series was the perfect backstory for the character. Buzz is written pretty similar to the movies. It also really has that late 90s/early 00s Saturday morning cartoon feel, which makes sense for a toy from that era. John Lasseter apparently really hated the show. Lasseter imagined Buzz to be similar to Space Ghost or Major Matt Mason, a straight science fiction series. He did not like the comedy elements of the show, which he felt were too far removed from his original vision. To this day, the show has never been released on DVD and is apparently not even available on Disney+. Disney are kind of pretending it never happened. Which I think is sad. It was a neat little show. It even had a tie-in game, which I used to play as a kid.
The new Buzz movie is OK, but to me it doesn't really capture the fun and excitement of the Toy Story Buzz and the original show. So considering this is such an iconic character with whom you can do so many different things (it's science fiction after all), it's kind of a missed opportunity.
In general, I feel the writing in Pixar films has been exceptionally poor for the last decade or so. Also, the new Pixar house style with the cutesy looking characters and faces leads to boring and unimaginative character design. It becomes especially evident when old and new Pixar characters are paired in a sequel to an old Pixar classic, as in Incredibles 2 or now the Buzz film.
It's sad to see Disney and Pixar having become so mediocre. As a kid, I grew up on Pixar and the Disney renaissance and would always eagerly await the next Disney film. Disney was huge back then. Nowadays they're just meh. Not sure I would go see the latest Disney movie with my kids if I had any.
>When was Inside Out released?
2015. I thought Toy Story 4 and Soul were also decent. But considering every single Pixar film used to be an instant classic in the early years, and considering that they put out at least one movie every year, three decent films in decade is not enough. Also, has any of these films even come close to reaching the heights of early Toy Story, The Incredibles, Ratatouille etc.?
In universe the movie's style should had been more infused with late 80's early 90's feel but it just felt like the movie that was based on the toy from current day.
Actually it's not an origin story for Buzz, it's serves more of as an origin story to Zurg.
This.
And Zurg’s origin is lame.
I honestly don't know if you're shitposting or now.
QRD anyone?
Posthoc “Origin stories” are always cringe,
There are no exceptions.
Part of story telling is abstraction
>Posthoc “Origin stories” are always cringe
Revenge of the sith is good
There are no exceptions
No because the movie isn't the origin story for the Buzz in TS, the cartoon is. Its like the Ghostbusters movies vs "The Real Ghostbusters"
I'm guessing it was an original film and they made it about Buzz to sell tickets. The original Buzz is a different character and it's obvious.
The directors confirmed buzz in the toy story movies is based off the saturday morning cartoon based off the movies.
essentially its supposed to be a meta thing like in the 80s and 90s where a lot of cartoons were kiddified versions of blockbusters
Well yeah but that doesn't make sense, the movie clearly states that THIS was the movie that made Andy want a Buzz Toy, why not just show Andy tunning into the satAM cartoon at the end of the movie?
Probably fricked up the wording because I could have sworn they addressed this almost a year ago. it should have said "this is the movie FRANCHISE"
Maybe they simply thought putting
>"In 1995 Andy got a toy based on his favorite character"
>"this is the original movie the cartoon Andy saw about that character is based from"
Would be a bit complicated and stupid.

>you now remember clerks: the animated series
Is it safe?
I remember being very shocked when I found out about the Toxic Avenger movie, i used to love the cartoon so frickin much.
As a early zoomer the fact that the Toxic Crusaders existed actually shocked me
WHO IS DRIVING? OH MY GOD BEAR IS DRIVING HOW CAN THAT BE???
Honestly it makes the entire thing so far removed it's bazaar. Like why did this get a theatre release and turning red go to disney plus? Turning red was definitely more theatre worthy

It failed cause of too much diversity
Yes
Is it just me or are all the "SJWs" and "Anti-SJWs" just switching places every few years?

>they managed to SOMEHOW make him the villan too
I don't know why but seeing Buzz with hair was really off putting I guess I assumed his purple head gear was a space cap but never really thought about it
I just realized why I was bothered by his design too. We never actually see his hair in any movie or the show.
Based Chud lightyear vs cringe Woke lightyear.
why does buzz look moronic in most of his shots? was this a design choice or just an accident?
a real buzz lightyear story would just be him being assembled in an indian sweatshop
>the real Toy Story 3

Too based for nudisney
does anyone have "that" scene?

When was Inside Out released? That movie was a 10/10 and probably their last good work.

Inside Out is as good as any of those classics.
Everyday Didney BLEEDS money and credibility is a good day
it makes sense because in-unvierse the movie wasn't also well received
In universe the movie's style should had been more infused with late 80's early 90's feel but it just felt like the movie that was based on the toy from current day.
Not today, sperg
The movie must be extra terrible when even Ryan who is usually fairly neutral showed an unusual contempt.
