We'll never get a true adaptation, will we?

Isn't the series title something about him leaving? So you're upset that he.. leaves?

Mostly the false advertising. He-Man switcheroo. They made it seem like it was a straight adaption, then it's a completely different story with a completely different point, which only can come across but demonizing Scott.

No, anon. You cannot go back to the comfy feeling you felt when you first self-inserted as Scott over a decade ago. You will never feel as young as you did then ever again. You cannot stand in the same river twice. You can never truly go home again.

Now grow up and go outside.

Uironically this. Scott P tickled a nerve that one couldn't quite put their finger on, and people spend a better part of a decade trying to get the note in tune. Now many of us are in our late 20s and realize that we will never get the awkward but fulfilling romance the book hinted at between Scott and Ramona.

Look at the little fag trying to make pitiful displays of dominance to generate sexual energy. It's a shame that I spend my time "writing emails" to the Virgin Mary while you plaintively wail about being on your way to hell

, never to be young or home or etc. again, and that's all you have to really say or Express. Hope that clued you in as to what a real dominant man is capable of

and netflix wonders why they're haemorraging money. spend less shilling on the internet and less on overdone animation and spend more on hiring competent writers and directors. not a hard one to figure out.

Sorry anon, it's CURRENT YEAR, it's illegal to have a straight white male character be the protagonist now unless he's hilariously incompetent and outshone by a woman and/or a minority.

That's like 90% accurate for the original comic as well. Scott is just a airheaded dork who stumbles into victories, with a bunch of colorful women and minorities acting as angel on his shoulder.
The difference with Takes Off is the character arc is handed over to Ramona who has her good ending come to her in a fanfic-tier universe.

        >the character arc is handed over to Ramona
no it isnt, in the original scott's trials chasing ramona are a catalyst for him to become a better person. This ramona starts with no character flaws and ends with... "i run away from what i love except not anymore because i love myself"? the show is four hours long and her character "arc" is a flat fucking line

I halfway agree with you. I think there's some development, I just think it's a stupid narrative to move it through, agree its extremely shallow, and think its dishonest that they do it at the cost of needing to sideline Scott, and they misled fans to believe it.

Time travel and alternate universes are a plague on creative fiction, this not being an exception.

If you honestly expected a Netflix Scott Pilgrim anime to be any good, you deserve every last bit of disappoint you're feeling right now.

I thought it was good. It's like the opposite of the comics in terms of who gets development. All the characters that weren't in the spotlight or developed get development compared to the other ones who did get more in the comics. It's not like the comics dont exist or don't hold up. It builds on what we already have. I was initially not sure how I felt about it either but I think its good to have an anime that adds more content to the series and characters than one that just rehashes what we've already seen and doesn't really add much. It would end up cutting stuff even.

Imagine if Full Metal Alchemist, after going through the original anime that completely went off the rails, managed to get another chance to have a more faithful adaptation with Brotherhood. Only instead of the top tier anime we got, Brotherhood ended up as an anime that starts off with the Elrics getting sidelined immediately after confronting McDougal, only to suddenly focus on Winry for some goddamn reason for the rest of the runtime.
    .
That's basically what Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is. A metanarrative spit in the eye, and a proclamation that we'll never get a proper adaptation that does the comic justice.

Kind of off topic but FMA first anime worked well for what it was, Brotherhood did a great job adapting the Manga but those first episode where both animes cover the same ground are much more enjoyable in the original anime.

Back to Scott Pilgrim I kind of understand why would they think making a straight adaptation of the comic is was a bad idea, Scott was a trend setter back it its day by combining the videogame culture with americanized anime fights. But now a day that is common so I could see why they think the story as it was was too simple to just adapt. That been said I think it was a bad idea. Because who the fuck wants to see a deconstruction of fucking Scott Pilgrim? Better to play it straight and get a new audience plus an adaptation for fans that to piss off what little fans the show had in the first place by changing the story and making it impenetrable for the first viewers.
