In the first Spiderverse movie, she kind of just “existed”. In the second movie, she had more of a role but I found her really annoying. She’s got that clone but condescending woman trope mixed into one. I actually found almost all clone characters a bit annoying in the second movie though.
I’ll say that her popularity from the male audience is clearly because she’s that “hot” fit blonde white girl who romances a man of color. An ever lasting fantasy for men of color. Once you get past that, her persona gets tiring. She isn’t really anything special.

I’m never going to like Miles/Gwen ship no matter how well written it is. Peter’s protege is in a romantic relationship with an alternate universe version of his mentor’s dead girlfriend. That just seems weird to me and drives home my main problem with Miles as a character. He has almost nothing original to him. Why not create an original love interest for him instead of giving him an alternate version of Peter’s dead GF? He doesn’t even have his own villains. People might say Prowler, but that was initially one of Peter’s villains. His name was just Hobbie Brown instead of Aaron Davis.
Furthermore, what does this relationship add to their character? What development does it give them? With Peter and MJ, their relationship actively helped in their growth as people. MJ was able to bring Peter out of his shell and be more outgoing while Peter helped her in overcoming her issues regarding her abusive home life.

The first movie was better. A lot of Across the Spiderverse was really cool and well animated, but that doesn’t make a good story. Honestly, I’m watching it right now and haven’t finished it yet, but Gwen is INSUFFERABLE. They totally changed her personality from the first one into this annoying, quippie, moody caricature. They took a decent character from the first film and gave her a HEAVY dose of “Disney quirky girl” syndrome. As soon as it gets away from Gwen it’s actually funny and far more interesting.

Marvel as a whole has been overexposing her. Think about it since her debut, besides the MCU, she has pretty much been in anything Marvel related she could with a few exceptions. She's playable in Ultimate Alliance 3 (making a total of 4 Spideys. I'm a Spidey fan but that's at least 3 (or 2 slots if want to keep Venom or Miles) slots they could have used for other characters like Vision or Medusa. Instead wasted on a character that regardless of playing differently looks and does what Spidey does.
Than there are the animated series . Ultimate gets a pass since she was introduced while the show was still live so she got a brief thing.. but the 2018 show just barely waits to make her Spider-Gwen when we haven't even had time to know her as Gwen (much less Comic Gwen or Punk Gwen).
The character is oversaturated and while I get that Marvel probably wants her to be marketed towards girls, there are also plenty of other characters that can do that without shoving one single one down our throats to like. Especially if they are going to water down the character by making her just another Spider in just another world and not go in on what makes her character great in her solo series.
Hell just Spiders alone, we have 5 Spider-women in the main universe who marvel hasn't given the time of day, we got Mayday and Anna May Parker and than there's Ultimate Spider-woman who is just Peter.
