As far as Roland Emmerich films go, I'd say that Stargate is definitely one of his better ones.
Not sure what this
homosexual is talking about, I've watched it several times.
What if instead of Stargate it's Saargate and they activate the gate, go to the other planet and it's full of indians who try to touch them, sell them dirt and rub feces on them so they immediately go back through the Saargate and bury it again
if anything it fits right into currentday,

They're getting there. But it's further down the list of beloved sci fi franchises. They still haven't finished raping the corpses of Star Wars and Star Trek yet.
>I have no idea how the groomer crew hasn't labeled it as "HIGHLY problematic" by now.
all of "ancient aliens" documentaries and entertainment media was deemed problematic a long time ago. the often repeated claim is that "white people are so racist they cant believe anyone but aliens could have built the pyramids", etc.
i have had leftists tell me stargate sg1 is fascist moon nazi tier propaganda, bringing up the show's real world ties to the real world US Airforce.

I JUST got done watching the TV series and let me tell you the first 7 seasons of SG-1 are fantastic, easly my third favourite TV series behind start trek tng and ds9
Season 8 is also really good but not as good. Seasons 9 and 10 are hackjobs since all the good writers left for the spinoff (which is also really good) but there are some good episodes in there.

is Stargate (1994) massively underrated? I feel like it has aged like fine wine
It's the intro to the TV show, but not much more. It's just alright. Being film length hurt it, a lot of meandering around in that shitty hobo shack village. Should've been cut down. It's just alright imo
It's one of just a handful of shows I rewatch. Just recently went through the series and atlantis/universe recently in fact. Fell asleep during the movie, idk why, it doesn't have a rep for being boring. Guess I just didn't give a damn about it like I do about some random Temperate Canadian Forest episode of SG-1

Because feminine women are offensive to LGBTQ ideologues, and they have the final say on most if not all of the media produced today. Hell, LGBTQ ideologues even have the power to censor Japanese media now.
Feminists supported the rainbow crowd up until the rainbow crowd encroached on women's spaces like locker rooms and sports. Now they're not so friendly. Feminists will still vote for a deranged dementia pedo over Trump though even though they know it means more men in women's spaces.
You Black folk honestly think this instead of realizing that the gay movement was taken over by straight women who want to feel good about themselves.
Gay men literally don’t matter in terms of gay rights anymore, but you morons are still seething because you’re too cumbrained to wrangle your shrill, harpy-esque feminazis.

atlantis main cast besides teyla had great chemistry and were just as fun to watch, for me, as the original SG1. atlantis also really dove in the lore and world building of the ancients/stargate and the episodes where daniel comes to atlantis are some of my favorite. i really liked the crossover episodes between the two shows. it felt like i was watching a new kind of tv experience.

There's more but this is enough to keep me watching to be honest

FRICK YOU PAL, I WISH IT NEVER ENDED. it was going DBZ tier powerlevels by the end of Atlantis when they bring THE WHOLE CITY back to Earth.
I hate how it puttered out with a spinoff crew meandering lost in another galaxy.
i wanted a story about atlantis being hidden one earth and being a base of operations against some new threat and seeing where that goes. or something set in the future by a few decades like the stargate MMORPG was going to be. but nope.
also i always thought a Stargate time travel/multiverse spin off show would have been amazing. some of the best episodes of the show were time travel/alternate reality episodes and it would have just opened the door for more ridiculous stories and premises.
You forgot the part where the Pegasus ancients were overrun by the Wraith because of their swarm tactics and far superior numbers despite the fact that Wraith need to feed on humans/ancients and even when Pegasus had been seeded with billions of them the Wraith were forced to fight amongst themselves for limited access to food.
I think that's the biggest problem with Atlantis: the wraith suck on pretty much every level. >Bug/vampire motif doesn't really work >Instead of sucking your blood they... palm-strike your chest and age you to death. In a show where they used to try to ground stuff in science. >What do they even do when they're not eating humans? >They're the dominant force in the Pegasus Galaxy, so you can't just have planets that aren't getting culled >They're the race that beat out the ancients so we can't just make them extinct one episode, we're stuck with them
The wraith were fine in seasons 1-2 when they had just awoken, there weren't too many of them, and their backstory was unclear.
Everything they did from when Michael appeared onwards made them more and more moronic. >hive mind that Teyla can connect to >humans become Wraiths from bug bites >humans and wraiths can become each other at will >everything with the Wraiths and the ancients >the ZPM being able to mass-produce wraiths
The writers got too ambitious trying to match the Goa'uld and eventually had no idea what they were doing. The Genii ended up being the best villains in the show by default because the Wraith got so moronic. And they eventually needed to throw the replicators in there too because the show became such a mess.
>The Genii ended up being the best villains
They did nothing wrong. If anything, the Atlantis Expedition are the villains. >First thing they do is wake up the wraith >Second thing they do is almost destroy the greatest relic of the ancients, who the Pegasus humans revere like demigods >Frick up a planet for sacrificing a few humans to the wraith so everyone else can advance >Go snooping around the genii and frick up an offworld op with them >Wake up the replicators >Hoard the technology of Atlantis, giving NOTHING to the humans of Pegasus >Creates Michael >Blows up 2/3 of a solar system >Betrays the nuReplicators that just want to become real boys
Don't forget how they re-used the humanoid-replicators plot in Atlantis, brought the Ancients back for one episode just to be killed off-screen during a two-parter.
That was so pathetic really. The ancients have been hyped up for years in both series and they return and are just some dumbasses who get themselves killed off-screen in one episode.
nah, the movie pyramid ship occasionally appears in the show as well used by various goolds, and it's even referred to as a ha'tak once, the show just dropped the ball on properly differentiating between the two
It's also weird that the motherships in the show are triangular pyramids and wouldn't fit on the irl rectangular pyramids in Egypt, despite that supposedly being their purpose.
Yes, I think that. The Goold are canonically not innovators and only steal technology they barely understand. When Daniel does a briefing on a goold, he's just reading some ancient holy book and it's still accurate; they're very stagnant.
Another weird thing about Stargate: every religion in the world is canonically false. And not only false, but a tool of oppression. The Abrahamic religions were mostly ignored since Glassner didn't want to offend most of his audience, but even they got the treatment eventually with the Space Catholics/Muslims in S9-10. The only religion where the gods aren't a bunch of parasitic jackasses is the one followed by a bunch of rapist murderous pillagers, the Asgard are bros.

How would they be stagnant when they have genetic memory? They would all be super geniuses. The scavenger cope was just to nerf them like every fricking scifi show does when the writers realize the enemy faction is too OP.

>They would all be super geniuses.
not really, quite the opposite actually
all that knowledge would literally squash any semblance of innovation which requires curiosity
let alone the psychological problems of living for millennia turning them into utter psychopaths,
even without the evilness of go'uld genetic memory
3 months ago

They have no incentive to innovate. Being a cult leader with an entire planet of worshippers allows you to take whatever you want without inventing anything.
Unless of course one of them got stranded on Earth without any tools or weapons. Then he would have to re-invent things from scratch using the primitive resources available. He would probably hide in plain sight as an inventor/entrepreneur and sell high tech products to fund his own space program and eventually return home. His ritualistic goold mind would probably develop weird obsessions with mundane Earth things, like a single letter of the alphabet, but otherwise he would blend in just fine.

They don't have high IQ, they just have access to a genetic database of knowledge. A moron is still a moron even if you give him access to wikipedia.
The only smart Gooolds were the ones who survived all the way until the later seasons. Like Ba'al and Anubis and those kind of went out of their way to adopt new ideas and technologies.

few days ago i got to know that the actor playing baal died some time ago in some water skating incident and it saddened me greatly
yeah the extended cut is like 10 minutes or so longer, but that's nothing compared to the 3 hour version that was first shown to test audiences. what I wouldn't give for that.
the two dimensional star map (in the movie and in the show) of a three dimensional galaxy kills me every time. how do they even have that and can track objects through space on it if they've never even used the gate before?
>because the actor was so shit
Emmerich said that test audiences were confused as to who this Ra guy was, so they made him an alium in post production, instead of a henchman of the actual aliens who are never actually seen.
It was good in the 90s. In the 2000s it got a bit dated. By now it’s certainly kino.
The main problems are French Stewart cringe which even though he’s not bad somehow he ruins the military vibe.
The other problem is the alien world is just lazy bedouins and sand. But in rewatch this part is mercifully expedited.
It’s kino that’s for sure.
Recently rewatched SG1 and Atlantis.
It's kind of ridiculous how many episode plots the Atlantis writers have straight up copied from SG1.
Why even make a spin-off if you're just going to do the same shit again, just less well.
The Stargate movie is very good. It's a true adventure flick, the alien world feels very alien and things like there being a language barrier between the locals and the Stargate team makes it more special when Daniel Jackson hooks up with the local girl and they arm the insurgency against Ra.
The twist with O'Neil and the nuke is kind of out of left field but it ends well so whatever.
The show is a great continuation, all things considered. It's a different vibe for sure. Less spirit of adventure, more XCOM-esque struggle for survival. It has probably the best done power creep I've ever seen in a serialized show up until the Ori show up and things get wacky.
like all squirt russel movies it has no rewatchability

that was thousands of years ago. you think they never updated the models?
I just heard some ancient egyptian in my head yelling "MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE!"
They have no incentive to innovate. Being a cult leader with an entire planet of worshippers allows you to take whatever you want without inventing anything.
Unless of course one of them got stranded on Earth without any tools or weapons. Then he would have to re-invent things from scratch using the primitive resources available. He would probably hide in plain sight as an inventor/entrepreneur and sell high tech products to fund his own space program and eventually return home. His ritualistic goold mind would probably develop weird obsessions with mundane Earth things, like a single letter of the alphabet, but otherwise he would blend in just fine.
Genetic memory means no new ideas and no fresh perspectives
>super geniuses
They don't have high IQ, they just have access to a genetic database of knowledge. A moron is still a moron even if you give him access to wikipedia.
The only smart Gooolds were the ones who survived all the way until the later seasons. Like Ba'al and Anubis and those kind of went out of their way to adopt new ideas and technologies.
few days ago i got to know that the actor playing baal died some time ago in some water skating incident and it saddened me greatly
The series is not really canon to the movie, and the movie is only canon to series in broad strokes
30 years later, I'd be curious to revisit it.
I saw it once in the theater, enjoyed it very much, but have had no interest in seeing it again.
your old AF
Cringe baby
>Stargate
i prefer Sliders.
I watch it every time I see it on a movie channel.
10/10 and I think there is even an alternate version or extended cut
yeah the extended cut is like 10 minutes or so longer, but that's nothing compared to the 3 hour version that was first shown to test audiences. what I wouldn't give for that.
i'm not sure if I ever saw that. damn.
>I feel like it has aged like fine wine
The control room aged like shit
the two dimensional star map (in the movie and in the show) of a three dimensional galaxy kills me every time. how do they even have that and can track objects through space on it if they've never even used the gate before?
it's what DUNC wishes it was
it is a nice vintage.
it's free on YouTube I've watched it twice in the last month
GOOLD?
better late than never
stargate is amazing. and so is sg1.
>I'm sorry but that just happens to be the way I feel about it. What do you think?
AHHH I'm reliving the same day for the 8th time now
IAM LTIERALLY GOING INSANE!!!!! WACKO!!!!
>8th time now
They were stuck for months.
>the chad elite Horus guard vs. the virgin buckethead chud
It's a great movie with a great concept, and probably the only time James Spader didn't play a completely evil butthole.
The plot is really meh, but everything else is great, acting, costumes, locations, special effects.
Apparently it was somewhat saved in editing. Most of the villain backstory and the voice effect were added later because the actor was so shit.
>because the actor was so shit
Emmerich said that test audiences were confused as to who this Ra guy was, so they made him an alium in post production, instead of a henchman of the actual aliens who are never actually seen.
For me it's Dr. Frasier
My wife
how would you handle this situation?
"Please inspect my snake"
>virginity mechanism defense activated
>starts sweating profusely and unable to utter a single word without stuttering
I've got this
"Doctor, there's a Go'auld in my pants help!"
>how would you handle this situation?
immediately explode in my pants
>"Don't care, set off a nuke."
What would you do to Carter if you were stuck in a time loop and non of your actions had consequences?
Goold shits
OUTTA MY WAY GOOLD FRICKING SHITS
YOURE NAWT A FRICKIN GAWD
All Jaffa must fricking hang

I knows the Stargate shows (or at least the first one) are popular but, although I like the film, I have never been able to get into them.
Fully automatic P90 sniper rifle, strongest weapon in the galaxy
I am distracted by the reflections in the actor's sunglasses in every single shot.
>sg1 thrown into offworld prison
>during their escape they destroy the food trough
Kind of a dick move tbh
They could have sent through a replacement later (they didn't)
>its a master bra'tac episode
>rubs scalp
>"Hammond of Tek'sus"
The girl who played Ra was cute.
it's better than the show.
It has probably the best done power creep I've ever seen in a serialized show up until the Ori show up and things get wacky.
>villain is a decadent alien parasite inside an androgynous host body
yep, it's based
Was Amanda Tapping's show Sanctuary any good? She looks weird brunette.
It spawned 2-3 different tv series. I think it’s already had it’s run of appreciation
>its a doctor weir is an annoying woman episode
>its every episode she is in
it is very gay
Saw it for the first time last year. It’s awesome. Pure adventure kino, especially the beginning. Ridley Scott wishes.
