This movie made 4.8 million on a budget of 22 million with a marketing budget of over 30 million. The dipshit who made the movie came out and demanded that no "Trump supporter" see his movie, so if there was any chance of people being open-minded he stabbed it in the ass.
It was overtly, overwhelmingly political. The movie pretends straight people don't exist even saying their time is over. Every scene is about the most moronic caricature of gay the gay lifestyle. Rom coms as a genre are only popular with straight women, period. This isn't going to appeal to anyone but queers. Note, I didn't say gays, I said queers, the term for political gays. This is only going to appeal to people who want to support THING because it's gay and that's basically a microscopic segment of twitter at this point. 90% of those people will promote something, say it's good, demand others go see it, and then never actually watch it. The gays meet at a gay orgy. The stakes are them deciding whether or not to temporarily become exclusive. The writing looks abysmal. With Mighty No. 9 they hired this girl, Dinah or something and she had some title like "community manager" or something and right away, immediately she started injecting her politics into it. First she started posting images of the main robot changed into a girl, posting weird rants about how the customers were "misogynistic gamergaters" and if I remember right this was after that stopped even being a thing, and her big claim of success was that she convinced them to change the game's main villain into a "gender non-conforming non-binary poc" which to my eyes just looked like "anorexic Zero knock-off but brown." and they put out an ad that said called their customers "anime watching virgins crying alone on prom night" or something to the effect. The game flopped.
DmC rebooted the franchise with an edgy Dante that looked like a methhead and was modeled after the game dev, stripped the sexy female characters and had Dante have a lot of nude scenes. The demons are portrayed as controlling the populous through "evil capitalism, demonic soda and brainwashing fox news" you literally fight a giant Bill O'Reilly head. It directly attacks the audience about the changes to the main character's appearance in a scene where a white wig falls on his head and he sneers at the camera and smugly says "Not in a million years." The dialog was all edgelord 12 year old crap. One of the bosses has you entering a demon's womb and aborting her fetus. The female lead says her spells are made with "dessicated squirrel semen." The big meme was that in the ads they called the dialog "Shakespearean" and there's a sequence where he gives a demon the finger and what follows is them both just saying "frick you!" back and forth at eachother, leading to "Fornicate thou!" and "Chinga tu!" in which Dante is edited to have a giant mustache and large sombrero.
The game not only flopped, people started picking up copies of the older games and made them outsell the new one out of spite.
It's amazing how these people who hate the customers, hate the game they apply a job to, and just hate nerd culture in general just keep getting hired.
because its all a criticism shield. they figure out the game (or now, literally anything) isn't actually going to perform as well as it needs to, either by the simple fact no one involved in development has any idea what made the games good in the first place, or the desperate attempt to take niche properties and turn them into mainstream properties, so they bake in reasons for it to under perform ahead of time, none of which translate to their own incompetence.
