Well to be fair Raimi did have Peter say some pretty extreme things in that first Spider-Man movie.
Spiderman's been written by dozens of people over decades, not every joke is going to land. What was funny in 1960 could also be considered racist or mean today(in the same way comics can come across as weird with homosexual or dick being used in a context it's no longer associated with). They’re right that a lot of the humor and writing hasn’t aged well (there’s still a lot of value to be had don’t get me wrong) but I think you kind have to treat that as an inevitable facet of making art in a world where norms and understandings aren’t ever changing. You can, and imo should, try to be forward looking for a better world and not just use what’s currently acceptable as a crutch to write what ever you want but you’re always going to be somewhat influenced by bad the bad ideas of your time even with three best of intentions.
