Can't remember the quote, but Deniro's character's speech about the seriousness of shooting a gun, and killing, while they were hunting deer, was hard.
It did foreshadow how the war, and life after will be for the guys. They were not ready.
I didn't like it much on first watch but on second it was kino (as the kids say).
Opening is still too long but everything past that is good and remember it's mostly about the disorientation vets felt trying to reintegrate into society after witnessing the horrors of Vietnam and how they cope with it.
No. It's really stupid. There's a scene they ripped off from the godfather that goes on for about 45 mins for no reason.
Then there's an awkwardly edited and completely idiotic scene where deniro is surrounded by 50 people with machine guns, and he somehow gets ahold of one and escapes.
Then there's a dumb scene where christopher walken is playing russian roulette for no reason other than it was shocking to see that happen in the 1970s.
if you're a guy into movies you gotta watch it because it's so famous. I thought it was awful, it definitely has a few good scenes but I thought it was just boring and it just dragged on with nothing really interesting except a few characters and few minutes worth of film. But everyone's got their own taste.
Also, how the hell did they not get that filming where they were in the mountains looks nothing like pennsylvania? I am no geologist but it's like saying a movie takes place in mexico and then going to film it in finland, it just doesn't look right
As others have said, it's way too long and self-indulgent, but it hinges on the Russian roulette scenes.
De Niro back when he was good, Walken was brilliant. John Savage is excellent but overlooked.
Were people back in the 70s just that willing to watch anything? The wedding scene is like 1 hour and it's like they expect you to be thankful. Like you paid the ticket price, you'll get 3 hours to fuck your date in the dark, so let's fill the runtime with ANYTHING.
Only if you liked it
you could have just watched it instead of making this thread and waiting for replies
Anons will tell you it’s an amazing film but it’s one of those movies with only one memorable scene.
Yes. It's kino. Just remember that it's not a war flick.
>one memorable scene
dyel taste
why did they play homage to american pie?
Absolutely. I was afraid it would be too long and boring, but it was a kino of the highest caliber.
Yeah.
I won't watch it again though.
I put on this movie expecting a badass Vietnam movie but half the movie is a wedding and the other half is boomers drinking in the woods.
The Vietnam parts are kind of unbelievable. The Pittsburgh parts are an interesting portrait of life in America at that time.
>Is The Deer Hunter worth watching?
Do you like hunting?

You see this? This is this. This is not something else. This is this.
Turn it off after the wedding

It's retarded. Just completely fucking stupid.
>MAU!!
>DIDI MAU!!!
>they can't find a viet guy who is willing to slap americans so they had to use the one Thai guy who hates yanks and were willing to slap them around

>GOT TO MAU!

Yes
Its good but fucking depressing
It's too depressing to recommend to anyone.

overrated
There's a Tales From the Crypt episode that does it better.

It's three different movies in disguise of one film. Worth it for a couple of scenes and Stanley Myers' score.
It is. Watch it. It's an order.
Is this recommended on some streaming shit? A few hours ago my grandma was watching this and I'm feeling like a schizo now.
