This somehow completely failed to feel like 1980 despite forcing in every One Hit Wonder sing from that time period.

I really wish I liked this movie. I should like it. I love '80s action/adventure movies, I love fantasy effects movies, I love Carpenter, I love Kurt Russell, I love Kim Cattrall, but whenever I watch it I'm bored shitless. It feels like a meme movie to me and I'm only convinced people like it because it ticks all the boxes of resembling a good movie without actually being one.

this movie has surprisingly not aged that well. some of the acting and a lot of the dialog is very corny. it also drags in spots. laura san giacomo could be completely edited out of the movie and it would be much better for it. selleck and rickman are great though. boomers love it because it was one of the first western revival movies of the 90s, but it's really about 30 minutes too long

Setting is a big factor in "comfyness" level, see OP for an example. i dont think Id like it as much if it was set in modern day LA, even if the story would still somewhat work.

Really admire the balls on QT to get the biggest A listers in Hollywood and make his biggest budget movie yet, a plotless hangout movie. Any other director who would try this shit would get gutted by their producers.
