Is there a good film that captures loneliness?

Is there a good film that captures loneliness?
I'm not even sure if there are screenwriters and filmmakers who properly understand it, considering you need some outwards personality to get into the industry or just work on it.
While Travis is a social outcast, he still lives a somewhat normal life with a job, tries to go on dates (acts somewhat idiotic, sure, but he still has that) and acts on impulses.

Loneliness just creeps on you, molds you, it pretty much sucks life out of you little by little. Its an agonizing silent pain. What's the loneliness-core kino.

That's quite a nice suggestion. I always loved Tom Noonan interpretation of it. He probably knew a thing or two about the issue.

All the /b movies. Drive, taxi driver, American psycho, joker, etc. the first two are the better films in my opinion though.

I see most of these movies has some sort of revolt from social outcasts instead of loners. Loneliness paralyzes you while all these films present characters who act on their instincts.

No that’s called anxiety or inaction not loneliness, although those all might be associated/ common with each other

Manchester By The Sea, if you substitute grief for just naturally being a mopey autist

Good film but grief is very different from loneliness (which isn't really being mopey, a mostly transitory state).

Four nights of a dreamer is a masterpiece t b h, but if you haven't seen anything by Bresson before it might be hard to watch, his style is too formal and idiosyncratic

Basically any version of The Phantom of the Opera deals with this premise. In case someone doesn't know the story, he was a deformed, even ghoulish-looking genius who effectively became outcast from conventional society because of the way he looked, and he became increasingly malevolent as a result of his alienation, especially once he desired the opera singer Christine. Some versions of this story are in a musical format, mainly the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Yeston & Kopit versions. Other versions just have the music more in the background.

You want a movie about a guy who doesn't have a job and doesn't talk to anyone or do anything all day?

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind isn't exactly centered around loneliness, but it's a pretty lonely journey. Going through the emotions that come with knowing your ex not only left you but had you erased from her memory packs a punch.
