Is there any media where "superpower of luck" is depicted properly? Luck would be a fricking horrible superpower because luck is defined by anything.

Walk into a road of rushing cars? Would they avoid you as you stroll by? No. They'd hit you and you end up paralyzed for life but you'd LUCKILY survive.
I just feel like Domino's power was presented to be way too overpowered.

You do it however the writer wants for the story and the artists want for the visuals. It's a power for stylized action scenes

So you’re asking if there’s any media where luck is a superpower but superpowers are weak? Why would you want that? Domino being hot and op was awesome and I want a full length movie about her.

Well like in RWBY for example, luck is handled with at least a little bit of thought.
      Same with the Danganronpa series.

She's lucky, everything she does works out for her and any goal she's trying to pursue the universe will align to help her pursue via incredibly specific coincidences.

Man tries to shoot her? His gun malfunctions or he forgot to load it. Get tossed out of a moving van? You land on a truck of pillows.

        Anonymous

The universe basically bends over backwards and warps itself within reason to let her achieve her goals. If she gets in a fight with someone, they'll accidentally trip over their shoelaces and concuss themselves on the edge of a table. If she plays poker, she draws perfect hands while all her opponents draw duds. If she's about to get shot in the face, the gun jams. If she needs to fly a helicopter but doesn't know how, she'll be able to power it up and get it off the ground through guesswork.

It's both overpowered and a precision instrument. Also, it depends on the writer because of how vague and potentially limitless it is.

moron. Luck being relative is exactly why it's overpowered. The power changes to do whatever you want.

      >the power changes to do whatever you want
Incorrect. It should be whatever you need. Self-sacrifice is the antithesis to a power stemmed in greed. Someone with the power of luck should only have it directly effect them and no one else. That should be where the conflict comes in.

Gay. Superpowers are supposed to be power fantasies, not curses. They don't cause conflict.

Even fantasy books have limits. If you can't have a power ceiling for your comic book, don't bother writing it. Someone already made godman.

Not Cinemaphile but pic related from Galaxy Angel. Her luck is so powerful that it warps reality around her. So the crew took her to a casino and when they reached a point where it was impossible to win at the roulette table...a meteor hit the casino causing the ball to land on the right spot from the impact.

You're thinking of the wrong kind of luck super powers. Domino has super GOOD luck, so she bends reality so that she always gets what she wants within a certain scope of possibility.

Pic related is more your speed. He has super good luck AND super bad luck, which means he's more of a random pendulum swinging between being ridiculously lucky and being unlucky but with a silver lining of good luck in there.

That's not very lucky. Superpowered luck is they don't swerve out of the way but a single bug on the road somehow causes the whole car to flip and fly over your head, leaving you completely unharmed.

I feel like if taken to its logical extreme, luck as a superpower is the equivalent of a D&D player who just rolls nat 20s on everything, and when they somehow would fail anyway, the DM (reality) throws them a mulligan.

The way I've always seen Domino's powers in a macrocosmic sense is that the universe is constantly reading her probability and building failsafes around her so, no matter what path she takes, there's always be something about to happen that can push her along that path.

Domino is more overpowered because there's no tradeoff. Magoo has stupid luck but it's because he needs it to not die due to his disability. The tradeoff is he can't see worth a shit and is in constant danger but luck helps him out.

My favorite depiction of luck powers is the woman that ate the luck-luck fruit in one piece. In a nutshell she absorbs luck from people, banking good luck for herself by inflicting bad luck on others. As long as she's sufficiently lucky you'll never hit her, and the gold coins she attacks with will always land a hit somehow.

Usopp beat her by flinging a slot machine in the path of her coin. She got a jackpot and used up all her luck. Then he just shot her.

luck is when things turn out in your favor, not when you just barely survive, crippled for life, from an event that would have killed anyone else. it's not in your favor to be crippled or harmed, so a luck superpower would prevent this. but yes, it's an OP superpower, because it necessitates that things always turn out in your favor, which basically gives you protection from everything, immortality, and an instant "I win" in any conflict.

but ultimately it's also just plot armor, which all heroes already have to begin with.

"You're lucky you survived" is an extremely common saying when people return from war or underwent surgery, etc.

almost nobody actually dies in war, statistically speaking. on D-day for example, over 92% of the participants were "lucky" to survive. "getting lucky" is also an extremely common saying for acquiring a sexual partner, despite the fact that every normal person does it. it's just a turn of phrase and has nothing to do with a hypothetical luck-based superpower.

I just feel like Domino's power was presented to be way too overpowered.

the best way to make luck work without making it overpowered, if your good luck will be balanced out by bad luck in other situations.
For example, you can easily dodge bullets coming at you, but the next day you will trip on a pebble and break your neck. Thus the user would have to decide when to use his luck/badluck power and when not.
Maybe, so that the person can still fight super villains, is that they can divide the bad luck into smaller accidents instead of one big one. Like, for the next 12 months you will always cut yourself when shaving, to compensate 5 minutes of guns shooting at you.
