Eh, I always thought haunted house movies were lame. And aside from Shawshank Redemption and Titanic, Shining is the highest rated movie I have never seen and I've gone this far I'm going to ride that out to the grave.
You should watch The Shining but remember it's not a horror. It's a slapstick comedy and I'm fairly sure it was intended that way

He's always had a huge problem with "small town masculinity" and local/visible authority figures. He has this type of villain in most of his books, notable exception being the Dark Tower series. Your perception of The Father is pretty defining for your political beliefs/views about the place of the state
