Faulconer's music is great in Namek and early-mid Android saga. Should've used the japan soundtrack in Cell and saiyan arcs. Saiyan so you'd recognize the classic db music so you'd get a different, alien one in Namek.
The original Dragonball has zero filler. So if you're watching a "recut" version, then you're missing out.
Kai is better than the original series. I've watched both. And Kai just cuts out all the crap. You won't miss anything.

>The original Dragonball has zero filler
There's plenty of filler but it mostly covers training. Canon episodes have padding and there's a very short filler arc art the end
>There's plenty of filler but it mostly covers training.
Training episodes aren't filler. Anime is more than just announcing your next moves, and then performing them.
Really? I didn't even realize the training episodes weren't in the manga, because it fit so naturally to the pacing of the plot. So if what you say is truly the case, then perhaps the manga was a little truncated, and it's the show that fixed that problem.
The only filler that bothers me is skipping the boring ass Garlic Jr saga so I can get to Trunks faster.
Actually, now that I think about it. The one thing I feel like Kai really messed up on, was skipping the diversion down in the Hell. I feel like Hell was an important part of the lore of the world. And it actually would make watching Super more confusing, if you didn't know Hell existed already.
I find the majority of filer in Dragon Ball and pre Namek DBZ enhances the characters and makes them cooler. DB filler gives you a reason to like the side characters like Tenshinhan, Yajirobe, and Yamcha; while Saiyan saga filler really helps develop Gohan and Piccolo. Filler didn't become a problem until partway through Namek when it just became stretching out fights because they caught up with the manga.
I just read the manga these days. Kai is the best animated version but it still has some filler which should have been cut, like ginyu taking over bulma. I would like to see DBZ be properly remade with the story planned out from the beginning

Stephanie's Frieza is my favorite voice for him too. It had that strange androgynous tone to it and not just because a woman was voicing him either. You had to really prick your ears to detect Gohan had a female VA.
I'm dying young for chronic illness and I still bothered watching the full series. Well, I watched Dragon Ball on Hulu or something so whatever they have, but tormented the full and uncut Dragon Ball Z series from a /t/ thread ages ago.
I don't have a link anymore, but there's a fanmade torrent out there for both db and dbz that preserves EVERYTHING in 1080p. Each episode has all audio tracks so you have the choice of things like jap audio or faulconer soundtrack.
So when we will get an actual good live action movie? How would they be divided up? I’m thinking: >1st film Pilaf and Tournament >2nd film Red Ribbon Army >3rd film Piccolo >4th film Sayains >5th film Namek >6th film Bardock special >7th film Frieza >8th film Androids >9th film Trunks special >10th film Cell Games >11th film Tournament/Barbadi >12 film Buu
Bardock and Trunks specials are both half an hour long. It would be disgusting to stretch them into full two-hour movies.
I can accept a Trunks spinoff because the special is useful for fleshing out the Artificial Human twins as valid threats before Cell undermines them, but a Bardock adaptation is out of the cards, considering Bardock's characterization there is explicitly non-canon now.
>good live action movie
this isn't a Marvel or DC comic, it doesn't translate to live action. i couldn't even begin to imagine the number of camera cuts they would use for even one single scene where Goku and Freeza are floating through the air trading blows and making shockwaves. can you even imagine a live action adaptation of the fricking Saiyan Saga beam struggle? or Cell and Gohan? no frickin' chance. literally never ever tier.
also >waiting 5 movies to introduce Super Saiyan
the number of fans within the DB community who care about OG Dragon Ball is a fraction of a fraction, i don't think many people are going to the theater to watch live action Kid Goku swing a stick around at robots and General Blue for 2 hours.
you would be better off doing a Saiyans movie, a Freeza movie, and then maybe making a spin-off movie about OG Dragon Ball once you've established a foothold. see how it performs. if it does well, after you adapt Cell you can double back to the Red Ribbon Army before moving onto Buu. OG Piccolo would be the last movie before moving onto Super, as a full circle send-off to the original source material. Bardock and Trunks would also make good spin-off movies, maybe do Trunks' before Goku Black, and Bardock before Resurrection F.
>1st film Saiyans >2nd film Freeza >3rd film Tournament & Red Ribbon Army (sorry Pilaf, we need to tie into Cell) >4th film Cell >5th film Buu >6th film Piccolo >7th film Battle of God's >8th film Bardock >9th film Resurrection F >10th film Trunks >11th film Goku Black (we're skipping the U6 preliminary tournament arc too, because we're going to spend more time characterizing U6 in the live action TOP) >12th film Universe Survival >13th film U6 spin-off featuring Jiren (the Guardians to our U7 Avengers) >14th film Super Broly >15th film Moro
then i'd stop after that because Super Hero and Granolah are both trash. i'd rather adapt SDBH if we're just abusing wishes and making up transformations after Moro.
If you watch original DBZ you're going to skip over a ton of filler anyway, Kai is arguably the best way to watch since you don't have to do that work and it's partially remastered.
Kai is total dogshit, don't listen to these people. You watch english ocean dub until the end of Ginyu arc, then you switch to the original english funimation dub for the rest of the show.
I'll take a single great episode being removed over having to sit through shit like the fake namek episodes, garlic jr returning arc and all those fricking filler scenes with Mr Satan and his crew against Cell.
the dub performances are all worse in Kai than the OG Toonami dub, and they ruined pre-Buu Gohan by changing his voice actress (this also applies to GT Goku in any game made after Kai was released). watching DBZ without the original Faulconer OST isn't ideal either. the show goes having this very synthy, otherworldly, 90's feeling to sounding like a Godzilla movie – or whichever Pokémon game it was with all the trumpets. Hoenn? i can't remember.
but you won't know any better, and probably don't have the patience for the original uncut dub. just watch DB and Kai so you can get onto being disappointed with DBS like the rest of us.
Kai has redraws of a bunch of scenes and the video quality is much worse.
also makes a great point. Kai was the beginning of the "nu-Toriyama" artstyle that we see in Super. where everything is too crisp and sanitized, the image is flat and oversaturated, they're cutting corners with animation, etc. but again, you might as well watch Kai, because there's no point getting used to better animation just so you can be even more disappointed by Super.
I don't love stretching out the narrative, keeping the viewer left in suspense for 2x longer than necessary, all because the production of the show can't keep pace with the plot of the manga.
is the fast forward button on your remote broken? lol
Why bother fast forwarding, when there's already a cut that conveniently skips the filler?
Bad pacing = bad quality. Like with most things in stage/theater, the impact of narrative/drama/mystery/humor/whatever is primarily dictated by timing. If you meander too much, then you ruin the impact of events.

Bro, if you have to fast forward through the show you're watching, then it has bad pacing. On top of that, the act of fast forwarding itself takes you out of the show. Now you're micro-managing your experience. Looking for any sign that it's about to slow down, rather than just sitting back and taking it in.
you guys really prefer the phoned in, pre-canned dub performances Sean and Chris give now? because i'll take the soulful amateur dub over the >"we've recorded and re-recorded the same lines from DBZ 1,000 times for 1,000 games and we've lost our spark"

This. The only time I watched Kai I could immediately tell something was off, and I hadn't watched Z in years. When those guys first did the Saiyan Saga you could tell they were into it and that makes shit more intense and easier to get into. Plus, they were younger and they probably went harder with some of the screaming and destroying their voices.
The voice acting was always a huge part, helped get through the filler since all the characters have comfy or chilling voices.
Why would somebody even care about filler if they don't know which episodes to skip? It's not like you read the manga secondary gay. Do you even know what's filler or not?
You can tell it's filler when you're watching the show, and you realize characters are suddenly acting out of character in order to stir up a micro problem that can be resolved in 1-3 episodes. It doesn't gel well with the rest of the plot and sticks out like a sore thumb. You don't need to read the manga to tell. The quality of the writing suddenly drops, and you ask yourself, "why am I watching this? Why did they include this? When is the next *real* plot point going to come?"

Oh and also, characters just standing there and grunting at each other for such a long time, that it starts to feel absurd, so you crack a smile at the ridiculousness of it all.

the problem with original faulconer wasnnt the music but the placement. they never let it stop. but these fan mixes fix that. we can have minutes without music now
No, fillers are kino, let me explain you, DBZ without fillers feels like you are watching a non sense story, one of the example is the snake road, in manga and Kai Goku comes fast, unlock a new power and return to earth while in fillers Goku had a real training, you can understand why he unlocked a new power and feels really good when he arrives to earth. People who defends Kai and manga has no real taste, the original anime improved Z very well. Another example is when Mr Popo shown the time room to The Fighters Z (no canon), The Fighters Z need to fight against old saiyajins to improve their abilities, this make more sense why Ten, Krillin, Yamcha and Chaos were more powerful than Kid Goku in Saiyajin arc, at the same time gives a excuse why Goku never fought there, Goku and Kamisama never knew outside the earth exist life like Saiyajins, but now they know and they can use that knowledge to use it in time room.
Never feel pressured into watching Z if it seems overwhelming. Kai is a good substitution if you already know you don't have the patience for the full series.
People saying "filler is good akchually" are your regular Cinemaphile morons being contrarian for the sake of it
soundtrack makes a difference though. the original kai soundtrack with yamamoto was good. but they replaced it with the original japanese ost from kikuche. that shit ruins the show.
Not a big enough difference to drastically sway your decision
Regardless, nobody watching Z nowadays is watching a fulcuner version unless they specifically seek it out, in which case you can just find a Kai edit that puts it in
>nobody is watching what they intend to watch unless they're specifically intending to watch it
My man wtf are you talking about?
Anyway, isn't the cut that Funimation has streaming the Faulconer score? The orange brick score? So even the people who aren't "seeking it out" are getting it.
Funimation streams the original score, and has used the original score for every release since the lawsuit. It's the version that an unspecified DBZ torrent will use.
is watching what they intend to watch unless they're specifically intending to watch it
My point is, if the faulconer score is what your decision is hinging on, then it really doesn't matter because you will need to go out of your way to find that version regardless for both Kai and Z

Also something as seemingly simple as a score or a specific voice actor can definitely change somebody's decision or opinion.
I remember the first time I heard a DBZ edit with the "Head-Cha-La" intro. I wanted to fricking rip my ears off. What an awful song.

Recut is great. Kai not so much. The Recut guy has done up to Cell of Z, but he used Kai. Personally I'm still waiting on someone doing a fillerless cut using the best version of Z.
Dragon Ball Z is the most pointless boring fricking shit to ever exist and only stupid fricking morons pretend the like it cause "LOL I'm such a huge anime fan. Everyone knows what DBZ is right? it's the GOAT LOL"
Dragonball actually has a a story and character development
If DBZ doesn't have character development is because it was supposed to be the end of the whole thing, the Z standing for Zenkai - ending. But the publishers just kept asking for more and Toriyama kept doing shit so it lost its point, especially after Namek.
>I would like to see DBZ be properly remade with the story planned out from the beginning
I agree with manga being the best version, just stop reading after Namek
best scored version of goku going super saiyan on namek first time.
Been watching Super.
It's the weakest of the three, but I think the show has enough good moments and fights in it that don't make it a total embarrassment
kek i like plenty of newer anime. db super is objectively shit. doesnt compare with its predecessor, (except maybe the buu saga which was very flawed) and it certainly cant compete with newer generations of this genre.
The finale of the universe survival arc was one of the hypest moments of the series. You don’t get a hoard of Mexican in a stadium cheering for Goku and Frieza by being a shit experience.
I never watched Z fully with filler, but I borrowed some DVDs in 2010 that were the actual full Frieza arc (named Namek/Frieza) and watched all of it just so I can say I did.
The Gohan vs. Final Form Frieza fight after it implies SS Goku has died still is my biggest "wut" moment.
I haven't watched dragon ball since it was airing on toonami back when I was a kid, so I started from the beginning. I'm on episode 30 of dragon ball and it's so fricking comfy and the theme is a banger
All these anons praising Kai for the pacing, I get if your time is important to you, but it's objectively the lower form of viewing. Like other people have said just speed through the filler in the original series because Kai just butchers the voice acting, not to mention the music and like others have shown, the color and graphics. Whine all you want but if you're gonna watch a series you might as well watch the form that gives the best representation of the product despite the length. Most of you sound like zoomers who don't have patience and need to zoom through shit to get to the end to start your next series to b***h about.
Dunno abou Recut but Kai is fine. I recommend getting a version that splices in the Faulconer soundtta R opening wiu9 2nxiix bf9fso

One thing that sucks about Kai is that it's edited to 16:9, so a lot of stuff looks weird and zoomed in.
Faulconer is a homosexual and his music objectively makes the show worse.
>Faulconer is a homosexual and his music objectively makes the show worse.
delusion
Faulconer's music is great in Namek and early-mid Android saga. Should've used the japan soundtrack in Cell and saiyan arcs. Saiyan so you'd recognize the classic db music so you'd get a different, alien one in Namek.
Kai is actually the far better way to watch it, yes. No filler.
Doesn't it have a blue popo tho
No that was the Nickelodeon version.

Anything that didn't happen in the manga is filler
Really? I didn't even realize the training episodes weren't in the manga, because it fit so naturally to the pacing of the plot. So if what you say is truly the case, then perhaps the manga was a little truncated, and it's the show that fixed that problem.

No filler + better voice acting, it's pretty based
The filler makes Dragonball, it breaks Dragonball Z
I find the majority of filer in Dragon Ball and pre Namek DBZ enhances the characters and makes them cooler. DB filler gives you a reason to like the side characters like Tenshinhan, Yajirobe, and Yamcha; while Saiyan saga filler really helps develop Gohan and Piccolo. Gohan's voice in Kai killed it for me. Stephanie Nadolny's was much better.
Why did they ever get rid of her anyway? She's not even young Goku anymore in flashbacks
Her Gohan was a bit nasally.
There's just rumours but I remember she did get a bunch of DUIs.
Stephanie's Frieza is my favorite voice for him too. It had that strange androgynous tone to it and not just because a woman was voicing him either. You had to really prick your ears to detect Gohan had a female VA.
Frieza was voiced by Linda Young in the Funimation Z Dub.
just man up, pussy
then when you've formed your own opinion on what works and doesn't you can watch whatever gay alternative version you want
Don't do this. The full thing is a worse experience
I'm dying young for chronic illness and I still bothered watching the full series. Well, I watched Dragon Ball on Hulu or something so whatever they have, but tormented the full and uncut Dragon Ball Z series from a /t/ thread ages ago.
Gotta experience the show properly IMO.
its the best way if you dont want to waste your time or its your first time if you get really into it you will end up watching the original cut
No
recut leaves all the good parts in
No, watch DB original with the JAPANESE dub, then you watch DBZ and that's it.

we still are like 50 years away from having good enough cgi for it to not look stupid
Phase one:

Phase two:
>Androids Part One
>History of Trunks
>Androids Part 2 / Cell Part 1

>Not a big enough difference to drastically sway your decision
music makes a HUGE difference.
See
Recut is great.
But the publishers just kept asking for more and Toriyama kept doing shit so it lost its point, especially after Namek.
best scored version of goku going super saiyan on namek first time.
Been watching Super.
It's the weakest of the three, but I think the show has enough good moments and fights in it that don't make it a total embarrassment
super is trash
Yeah it's solid after Resurrection F. People just like to hate the newest installment in any franchise
its absolute trash
You will like it once the next show comes out, don't worry
kek i like plenty of newer anime. db super is objectively shit. doesnt compare with its predecessor, (except maybe the buu saga which was very flawed) and it certainly cant compete with newer generations of this genre.
The finale of the universe survival arc was one of the hypest moments of the series. You don’t get a hoard of Mexican in a stadium cheering for Goku and Frieza by being a shit experience.
>e-celeb video essay
Not watching that shit LMAO. Explain it your own words or frick off.
I've watched almost every version and the best one that keeps all the actions and story intact is DBZ: Abridged.
No. You need to learn how to appreciate long drawn out fights.
I never watched Z fully with filler, but I borrowed some DVDs in 2010 that were the actual full Frieza arc (named Namek/Frieza) and watched all of it just so I can say I did.
The Gohan vs. Final Form Frieza fight after it implies SS Goku has died still is my biggest "wut" moment.
what?
I haven't watched dragon ball since it was airing on toonami back when I was a kid, so I started from the beginning. I'm on episode 30 of dragon ball and it's so fricking comfy and the theme is a banger
Who's winning the Cell Kaiju Battle
Kai is good, if not better than the original.
It cuts down like 100 pointless episodes. The pacing is so much better.
>weebshit trannies still haven't stopped seething about the superior version
faulconer chads this is just embarrassing at this point
All these anons praising Kai for the pacing, I get if your time is important to you, but it's objectively the lower form of viewing. Like other people have said just speed through the filler in the original series because Kai just butchers the voice acting, not to mention the music and like others have shown, the color and graphics. Whine all you want but if you're gonna watch a series you might as well watch the form that gives the best representation of the product despite the length. Most of you sound like zoomers who don't have patience and need to zoom through shit to get to the end to start your next series to b***h about.
yes
