      The high brow comics genre?

It is arguably the greatest superhero comic book to this day.
The only ones that come close that I can think of are book three of Miracleman and The Dark Knight Returns.

Comics is a medium, not a genre.

No. The superhero genre. You can't compare watchmen with every single comic in every single genre. A slice of life or a sci-fi comic has other requirements to be high quality than Watchmen.

There aren't many people who have said "I tried really hard to find a comic that was as good as Watchmen but never succeeded."

So I would say yes, there are things that come close.

      >There aren't many people who have said "I tried really hard to find a comic that was as good as Watchmen but never succeeded."
This is all I hear from normalgays though, Watchmen is the only consistently studied comic in modern English courses, now personally, I find Watchmen to be overrated intro to philosophy reddit bait, so for one reason or another, whether it be that Watchmen really is the worlds greatest comic, or if academia ironically said "Oh it has superheroes so let's include it because the heart of American comics are superheroes." doesn't matter, but I hear the opposite all the time. Most people read Watchmen, maybe TDKR and that's it.

Just because people overanalyze it doesn’t make it overrated
Fact is, anyone who reads it enjoys it immensely and that enjoyment can be profound or shallow it doesn’t matter

depends on what genres you like.

For traditional capeshit? Maybe. There have been other runs on characters I think are on par, but Watchmen has the advantage of not having to wade through continuity, and is itself a concise and tightly paced narrative.

In the entire scope of the medium though, I wouldn't even say it's Moore's best work.

It is for me. I don't care if that makes me unoriginal or a target for contrarian opinions, when I read Watchmen for the first time almost 20 years ago I was honestly blown away and it made me realize there was a lot more to comics than just the typical Marvel/DC superhero stuff. I've been chasing the dragon ever since, and even though there's a lot of amazing stuff, Watchmen has always remained on top. Speaking of top, Top 10 from Alan Moore is pretty great too.
