The war itself is boring, but from what I've seen in terms of combat footage from both sides it's actually quite refreshing. Seeing conventional warfare again and in Europe is fucking kino. Middle East wars are contenders for being most anti-kino wars, they're either lopsided wars or boring insurgencies.
What I personally find "amusing" is that it seems to have just gone back to world war 1 style trench warfare.
Probably for similar reasons trench warfare happened back in WWI, they just couldn't fully cope with the new tech and sheer scale of decimating each other.
Part of it is that it's winter. Fighting a war in that area during winter is fucking shit. Both sides are dug in at the moment.

The last time there was real all out war was WWII. By real all out war I mean one country decides what they need to do to win the war and they do it.
Ever since the invention of the nuclear bomb things aren't as clear cut now. Now every country's conduct of war is subject to every other opposing (and some allied) country's rules of conduct, because nobody is just going to watch idly while you launch nukes.
There are people from the US and Russia talking to each other 24 hours a day in smoky rooms negotiating what are acceptable means of warfare. Therefore in broad terms, the main means of war are actually sanctioned or preapproved before they're performed. The entire thing is in a sense, coordinated theatre, except with real lives involved.
If a real war breaks out with both sides using 100% of their resources it would look very different.
The second world war was a total war. That will never happen again since the invention of the atom bomb will make any high stakes war a nuke fest. This is the best we're going to get for a long time, maybe China pulling some shit in Asia might result in another medium sized conventional war, otherwise the days of major wars i.e. WW1, Napoleon, etc etc are gone.
