It's funny how bith movies have a lot in common, including comfirmed rapists voicing the characters

Dream Works pretty much stole the idea from Pixar. They approached Pixar with "hey what are you working on? don't worry we don't do 3D we are just curious haha" and it worked.

Antz is a film about socialism

Both of these mocies have a strong socialist message, not just Antz.

The whole speech in A Bug's Life from the grasshopper about how he's fricked if the Ants realize that he needs them more than they need him and that they're stronger than him if they band together is classic capitalist vs socialist stuff.

Standing up against oppressors isn't necessarily a communist message, you know. I know people here are probably just joking, but still it's a little silly.

I don't think comparing socialism to an insect hive is the slam dunk you think it is.

It's not a "slam dunk" you braiwashed moron, it's just an obvious observation.

      Quite the opposite,
The film is entirely about self actualization, individuality, and choice. The only reason that the colony is saved is because of someone going against the will of the community. If anything A Bug's Life fits the socialism trope better as that film is all about the workers uprising against the upperclass.

General Mandible is probably the least funny Dreamworks villain. I don't think he even has a single funny one-liner. They played the character of "Ant Hitler" completely straight and its kind of mindblowing

Bug's Life is awesome. I don't know why it's one of the most underrated Pixars, do people just not like Flik? I liked the circus bugs. I liked the tension and presence the grasshoppers had over the whole story. Hopper is an awesome villain. Frick the haters, Bug's Life is really cool. The character designs aren't the best, but the atmosphere and cinematography is good enough to hold it up.

It's the movie they show to kids in school during special assemblies. Nobody actually willingly sits down and puts on A Bug's Life. It's like Scooby Doo, nobody is actively choosing to watch this shit.

it's impressive how Pacific Data Images was able to make Antz in less than 3 years. They started pre production in early 1996 and it premiered in october 1998. Silicon Graphics workstations were used

Antz is a very interesting film because it's the prototype of Shrek (the first film only, not the lame sequels) They were made by the same studio at the same Palo Alto building, plus Aron Warner produced both. Shrek owes a lot to Antz

A Bug's Life is a better kids movie. More colorful, fun, and with stronger characters.
Antz is a wide awake nightmare of uncanny valley ants with teeth, talking severed heads, and genocide.

Antz wasn't meant as a kids movie. Every character is an adult (Bug's Life has child characters like Dot and her friends)

Dreamworks bought a 40% stake on Pacific Data Images in march 1996 to make computer generated films. Antz was the first one. In february 2000, PDI founder Carl Rosendahl sold the remaining 60% and left the studio. Antz is the only CG film in history made when PDI was only partially owned by Dreamworks and when Rosendahl worked there (he executive produced Antz and supervised the whole thing)

    Childhood is bugs life
    Adulthood is Antz
But hopper is a great villain and is better thanks to spacey over general mandible who may be more evil due to staring a war that killed a majority of his own colony and was willing to kill the rest and take power which is an homage to Ion Antonescu, he still doesn’t have any dialogue the put him above being a respectable villain other than saying I am the colony and his two false pretense speeches which shows his pettiness and deceit but not his personal resolve.
Hopper is upfront about everything to his victims and gang, and his “one ant” speech was memorable for a reason.
Both villains are very common in real life yet hopper gets his hands dirty directly than and is in the scene of his action while mandible is behind the scenes

PDI seemed like a fun place to work at. Comfy building at Palo Alto next to a railway track. Making Shrek was probably one of the most enjoyable experiences of those people's lives (plus the satisfaction of seeing their hard work pay off when audiences loved it)
