It is insane to me that Superman hasn’t had a single solo cartoon in the 21st century. He’s cameoed and been in ensemble cartoons, but his last solo cartoon ended

Why is it insane to you?

Because he is one of the most popular comic/cartoon characters of all time. He was the first to be animated as well. It’s insane that Warner would squander and mismanage this IP down to what it is today.
We are close to 1/4th of the way done with this century, and Superman hasn’t had a solo cartoon at all. At this rate, he’s never getting one until he’s public domain

The most recognizable Superhero in the history of the Superhero genre. Hasn't had a good live action movie in fifty years, and hasn't had a good standalone cartoon in thirty, and only got one good live action short lived TV show in twenty years on a dying CW network.

I mean, that's kind've fricked up when you think about it hard enough.

He's popular because of 90 years of marketing, not because he's a quality character. There's a reason everyone thinks he's boring.

Superman isn't popular, he's just recognizable. Just like Hitler is recognizable.

But you nailed it with the marketing part.

Ins't that every western superhero? People know who The Hulk is but they will never buy Hulk comics, they would rather read One Piece.

He’s not popular anymore. I would argue every avenger except Hawkeye and Black Widow are more popular than him.

… because Warner squandered the IP
Nobody is claiming “Superman is still as popular now as he was then.” Warner squandered the IP. Who knows, maybe a cartoon or video game could have changed that. Maybe it still could, maybe not.
Hell, are you even arguing with me, or just agreeing? Warner squandered the IP.

How come they squandered Superman and not Batman? Because Batman is still fairly well-received.

This comic is funny because it is implying that everybody still buy Batman but hardcore fanboys what happens to every single superhero comic because they all suck.

Batman movies are a lot (relatively) cheaper to make. You don't need as much CGI to have someone stand around grunting in a Batsuit, with Superman he has to be floating, using heat vision, punching through concrete, blowing freeze breath. the works.

Definitely not. Or at least I doubt it could. Supermans been dragged through the mud so much that I doubt anything could make him relevant as he once was.

        >It’s insane that Warner would squander and mismanage this IP down to what it is today
You can't expect people who hate the values Superman stands for to make movies or TV that reflect those values.
Superman grew up in Kansas most people in Hollywood hate the 'bigots' in flyover country. Superman believes in the American way and Idea, most Hollywood people want globally homogenous 'multiculturalism'. Superman believes in Truth. Hollywood hates the Truth because most of the people in Hollywood would be revealed to be sex offenders if the truth came out. Hollywood hates Justice because to them 'justice' is defined by those with power and not by any objective truth from God or even some unchangeable universal force.

You can't expect people like that to even hope to make a good Superman movie. You have to love the values Superman stands for at least a small bit to have a chance of portraying him accurately.

He's an 80 year old character. Kids don't care about him. They like Spiderman more and he is pretty old at this point too. These characters will all be irrelevant in 15 years.

The real question is, why would anyone want a Superman cartoon? We know that even during the Superman TAS era he was a hated super hero. People hated him, thought him campy and lame. And even Bruce Timm's staff couldn't help but put Superman down within his own show with stuff like Lois randomly considering falling in love with Bruce Wayne, but even worse than that stunt is before the DCAU crossovers the first thing we learn about Lois in this continuity is that she used to Lex Luthor's sloppy seconds. Come on. People even back then hated Superman enough to make his love interest his enemy's ex. Guess the only karma is that in the same show when Lex Luthor wanted Lana Lang he was hurt to find out she's a Superman fangirl.

But anyway I digress, by now? People really FRICKING hate Superman and I mean beyond the hack bastards who are working at DC. You're not going to get a respectful handling of the man of steel. It's simply not even worth it. If Batman's new series with israelite israelite Abrams doesn't inspire hope, then what makes you think Superman stands a chance at decent media? I'm already not watching that pile of shit about Lois and Black Jimmy Olsen. To summarize, abandon all hope.

The only hope Superman has is enough of his franchise becoming public domain so that there's a chance someone good can make media with him. But that's quite a stretch.

Spider-Man movies don't respect the character nor show any kind of love for the character and they are still quite sucessful.

Spider-Man gets off easy because he's meant to be relatable and have flaws and deal with problems real people in the real world do.
Superman is supposed to be a moral aspiration, that is an example for us to strive to be. And most zoomers can't be bothered with that.

It all comes down to marketing. Superman is perceived as a stuffy boring good guy and most people ignore him because of that. So what they should do is go back to the old ways of getting attention, where the cover shows Superman being the world's biggest butthole in order to trick people into buying it to find out what the frick is happening. So to make the public at large interested in him again, make an earnest Superman movie where he is a paragon of virtue like he should be, but have all the marketing show him being an incredibly petty dick to everyone.
