Lord of the Rings is a foundational work in Western canon. Pretty much all fantasy works today find their root in it, and that includes Star Wars, as well as much of capeshit. It's not a big deal if you cut some branches, but it is a big deal if you chop down the trunk.

That's not true. Star Wars is more based on the Foundation mixed with tales of European knights. LOTR was very influential in regards to fantasy but there were other fantasy works preceding it like Conan
I will admit that I leaned into hyperbole to prove my point, but I believe my point still stands: there's more backlash to the tarnishing of Tolkien's work because of its importance to fantasy as a genre, and by extension, Western culture.

Capeshit comics aren't exactly a singular person's vision. Most characters have gone through multiple different writers, interpretations, and depictions. What is "canon" of capeshit is more so a lose amalgamation of agreed upon traits. Thus many people will accept capeshit fanfic so long as certain criteria are met, such as batman being an orphan.
With Tolkien, everything was created by one person with a very distinct and clear vision. The only thing that is canon is his works (all quibbling about input by christopher aside for now). Tolkien had a strong underlying, mythic, and archetypal framework upon which he drew inspiration from and used to scaffold his characters and stories. So any fanfic is deviating from the underlying structure that created the entire world and legendarium.
The same sort of applies to Star Wars but not as much. George Lucas created the original trilogy on a scaffolding of joseph campbell, flash gordon serials, westerns, and kurosawa (among other things). One of the reason people disliked the prequels initially was because it left that scaffolding for something different. The same is now being said for Disney Star Wars. But even the prequels had its own internal and coherent framework that was present through out because of George. Disney Star Wars has no framework. The underlying scaffolding of most works, which is essential to them and what makes them appealing, is almost inherently absent in fanfic.
