It took director Christophe Gans five years to obtain the rights to make Silent Hill. He was given the rights after he sent Konami a video of an interview describing how much Silent Hill meant to him. Along with the interview, he sent scenes that he filmed on his own dollar cut up and overlayed with music from the games. The strange stumbling movements of the Dark Nurses when they first "come alive" was created by filming them walking backwards, and then running the film in reverse. Pretty cool.

I like the mining town setting and the ash falling from the sky. The guys wearing the mining gear to explore the town was neat too. I don't know why fanboys get so assblasted over it.

they couldn't even follow the fricking plot properly and tried to mash 1 and 2 together and then followed to plot of silent hill 3 for the squeal which didn't follow the first films plot and pushing jon snow into the franchise and they only introduced bean after studio pressure who should have been harry to begin with, frick off

great costume, great skin-ripping action, but way too forced into the story. Who was he meant to pursue? The Cult? Shenron Mason Da Silva?
What's wrong with the atmosphere? Only thing I can think of is that it had too many people
that's one huge flaw, completely breaks the setting of the town. The parallel story with Sean Bean is a useless artsy-fartsy quote to SH2 that additionally breaks the pace. It didn't feel like there was a mistery to unravel. The town didn't feel like having a will of its own. The girl was CRINGE as frick in every fricking scene. No weird Lovecraftian shit (SH1) or Lynchian psychological nightmare (SH2). They just meshed the sacrifice from the 1st one, the cult from the 3d and sprinkled a bit of the burning in Origins. It's a fricking mess.

The only thing I didn't like was changing Alessa's backstory from a cult burning her to summon the devil to a bunch of insane Puritans or whatever burning her because they thought she was a witch. The game already pulled enough from Carrie and they just took it a step farther in the movie for some reason.

I really like this film, in interviews you can tell how passionate he is. The film suffered because of the suits intervening. I am looking forward to his next SH movie. However, I do think SH is dead as a franchise. Konami has never understood why it was successful, only that it made them $$$. They think if they just slap SH on some shlock that something will eventually stick. Mark my words, after the failures of the games just released SH will be shelved again, only to come out with a sexy nurse pachinko machine next.

This is one of my favorite movies and I hate films, tv, Black folk, spics, boomers, women, gays, the horror genre, disabled people, traffic, loud/irritating noises, and people with low IQs.
I never played the game nor do I care to.
The movie is great. It's haunting. It's intense. You care about the characters who are all well-acted. The violence is surgical. It's immersive. You feel like you're in a Silent Hill game even if you've never played one. It was always good but considering how unwatchable this shit is now it's a cult classic at this point.
I hate video games but Silent Hill 1-4 are actually pretty kino. The movie is meh, the second movie is unwatchable.
I like the Silent Hill movie, but if there's something I always hated is that the original game is full of esoteric symbolism and cult mystery, and some subplot concerning a chemical affecting the town, and the movie removed all that in favor of a boring sect of televangelists.
