I don't know if i'm just depressed or looking for purpose but I'm obsessed with this show. Sometimes I'll stay up for hours watching clips or listening to the music from it. Really hit for me, even though I think the first season has its flaws.
Same, The Leftovers is a great show. Love pretty much everything about it. Really good soundtrack, they knew how to pick em.
I wish that team made another show, managed to bring out the best in Lindelof.
Honestly feeling the urge to watch it again.
I immediately forced my parents to watch it after I did and every once in awhile I'd catch an episode with them. They're pretty old and I called my dad and asked "hey, didja watch any more Leftovers?" and he responds >hell no, i'm not eating any more of that! it was horrible!!
(my mom had made "mexican spaghetti" the night before)
>that goofy smile
the emotional ending of season 2 when Kevin finally comes home was already heavy but when it panned to Matt with his goofy ass smile and Mary awake I started crying. He went through fricking hell and was genuinely so happy to see Kevin. Kind of disappointing what happens between the couple in the third season
Oh he still hates Russel Davis and his cronies with a passion, but Big Finish isn't the BBC. He probably goes in, records his lines, has a laugh and a joke and goes home. No drama, just good times.
He's been doing it since like 2020 now, anon. Where've you been?
Wait really? He's not mad at the BBC anymore?
Big Finish isn't a part of the BBC; they've just been given the Doctor Who licence, so Eccleston feels comfortable working with them (but not so comfortable that he lets his 9th Doctor series have any references to the Time War or even any real depth or complexity at all)
Nora says in the final episode. it's just whether or not you believe what she's saying is true. i personally think she's lying to finally be at peace, which is basically one of the main themes of the show
Lindelof decided that the problem with Lost was the need to explain everything instead of focusing on the characters. So he said frick it on The Leftovers, explained absolutely jack shit, made it 100% character study, and the result was kino of the highest octane.
I've never seen all of Lost, but I always got the impression that people were pissed off a lot of the time because he never had an explanation for things
They crammed half-assed explanations for everything in the final 2 seasons and it felt forced, and even then they still had to make a 10 minute epilogue for the DVD release, which served as an exposition dump for unanswered shit, because they came up with so many moronic scenarios over the years that were never touched on again over the course of the show.
That was a good decision on your part. The people b***hing about the ending of Lost are the ones who should have turned it off after the time travel shit but kept watching hoping it would become the same show it was in season 2.
Maybe it’s cause it was during the Lost craze of 2009/10 or maybe cause I was a teenager or maybe both but I fricking loved the time travel stuff. Especially that one episode where they kept jumping and having nose-bleeds
The secret to this is the first episode of the last season. After they shoot and kill Kevin’s old “hunting” body, Kevin tells his step-son what happened at the hotel and how he shot and killed people. Now that shit either happened or not, but you can see in Kevin’s eyes he thinks it really did happen. Same with Nora. Dunno if what she’s saying happened or not but she thinks it did. But in the end, it doesn’t matter if Kevin believes her or not. He’s just happy she’s back. After everything they lost, they got each other back. That’s when the pigeons come back.
seems pretty extreme. why stone themselves to death? i got the feeling that they attracted a lot of mentally ill or unhappy people so dying was just part of their thing
Part of it was political. People like Patty and Meg are playing the game at a very high level. Meg especially. Meg wants to move on from the origins of GR by enacting chaos and violence and fricking up the status quo. She don’t wanna just smoke and stalk you. She wants to find that special place you retreat to to make yourself feel better and she wants to burn it down. Drag you down to the mud where everyone else belongs.
Meg was a crazy b***h. I loved when Matt spotted her again and you almost saw fear in her eyes because he knew that she was fricked up and why. I feel like her storyline was wrapped up too quickly, but I guess they only had 8 episodes to work with.
Fear in Meg’s eyes? I dunno man. I think she was just surprised all her neighbors were suddenly in this new town she was about to frick up. What are the chances, right?

I was referring to the fact that Matt actually understands her pain and why she is so fricked up because of her mother dying the day before the departure. He knows it, and used it to try to get her to leave the cult in season one. She even says that she hadn't even remembered that he did that. She lost all touch with that pain and is more focused on hurting others. I don't think she would have reacted the way she did to seeing Matt to any other character from Mapleton

Got it. Yea I think you’re right. For a second maybe she was afraid of being exposed right at the eve of her masterpiece. She did also run into Kevin but that was after they succeeded so she seemed unphased.
>what are you doing here? >what are you doing here? >I live here now >*starts singing that stupid Miracle town song >that look on Kevin’s face when he realizes what she’s doing and he just fricking leaves

Yeah, I thought it was funny that she gave zero fricks that he was clearly shot and Evie last saw him jump into the lake with a brick.

That scene at the last episode of season 2 where Evie & co. run into him at the lake and he’s holding a fricking brick tied to his leg and he’s about to jump. They lock eyes for a second and Kevin turns around and jumps in the lake. Evie looks shocked for a second but they move on. Made me chuckle.

yeah, i was wondering if her gears were grinding about what to do. either act normal and have to reschedule the plan or even try attacking Kevin. then he just takes care of everything himself. Almost wish we had an actual one on one between them at one point

Yea. She also literally just had a family dinner with him a couple hours before that. It’s a very awkward situation.

Yea this, the only time you see Evie get taken back is when she sees Kevin about to kill himself. The only other time is right before she dies.
They want you to remember and stay right there with that feeling. The world ended, there’s no going back. Frick you and frick everything. Let’s chain-smoke cause why the frick not.
Matt at that point was dealing with his cancer coming back and was doubling down on mythologizing Kevin. Quite possible he was having a psychotic episode. That’s the thing about the 7-year anniversary of the Departure. Everyone was going thru some heavy shit.
>shows up in purgatory as some sort of guide when Kevin dies >tells Matt that he's God >Matt doesn't believe him in the end and sees him get killed by a lion
so which is it? why cast the same actor?
Kevin saw him on TV as some ex-athlete/television host that apparently fell to his death during a climbing accident in the Australian outback but he weirdly was fine when they rescued him. Lots of things Kevin imagines is stuff he picked up unknowingly from TV, news stories, childhood or conversations. But there’s still stuff that’s unexplained like how he knew his dad was in some hotel room doing hallucinogens. That’s how the show maintains plausible deniability when it comes to unexplained magic shit. Like, ofcourse weird shit exists cause the show kicks off with people disappearing. But there’s a huge chance that the only unexplained magic shit is that specific event which happened once and will never happen again.
damn, i must have missed that. i remember they dropped something like that about the sitcom star hiding out in mexico or some shit really early on and brought him back too
Yea first or second season, there’s a news clip of a news team spotting the tv star in Mexico. He tries to deny it for a second but then tries to run away. He later on is the guy that recruits Nora into the radiation experiment in season 3.
Every other series regular from his show departed except him. 3 gone, 1 remains. Exact same thing that happened to Nora. He seemed very upset but he was a nice enough person to be accepted to the program. Nora wasn’t cause she’s an butthole.

>Nora wasn’t cause she’s an butthole
Lol, this. But not sure that’s why the program denies people cause the guy Kevin Sr. ran into seemed nice enough and he gave the opposite answer Nora gave to the question but they still told him no and he killed himself by taking a gasoline shower and lighting a match.
>some douchebag scientist part of a well funded research effort into the departure triggers Nora >later on the organization calls her to explain that she might be the reincarnation of the demon Azazel >they’ve contacted the Vatican >Nora starts laughing hysterically and hangs up
i remember bursting out laughing when they mentioned the demon because i seriously had no idea where the show could go next. i'm glad that Nora started laughing too
Yeah. It’s such a ridiculous premise, nevermind the fact that they’re hardcore scientists, and they follow that up with saying they’ve already contacted the Vatican. I mean… heh, that episode Lens is pretty great.
Definitely the one where he finds out Mary is pregnant and goes through hell to get her back into town. Even through all the bullshit and how much he is angry with John, he still trusts John to do the right thing with the kid whose father died.
I like the last one cause he’s the most vulnerable and emotional. Second one was kino because the whole thing is such an adventure. First one’s kino cause I truly believe it’s the first episode where the show clicks and you get a clear sense of where they’re going with this whole thing.
>it's a Kevin NEEDS to be kino incarnate episode
I feel like this show is similar to Raised by Wolves where it's just fricking insane but in such a unique, confident, cool way that I will always cherish it.
Probably more like "could have fricked", like she could tell he was vulnerable in some way and she could have manipulated him easily into sex. She's bringing it up again to taunt him, believing she has that power of him all the time, now.
It is a bummer she got deleted, though they did move to a new place. What's wild is the kids just getting deleted in the third season. A lot of things clearly didn't come to fruition, but that's Lindelof for you.
Yeah, not only is Lily basically entirely removed, but Kevin's kids too unfortunately. I guess they were lucky enough to get 8 episodes. I heard that there was extreme pressure to cancel the series after season 2 and they basically had to beg
Kevin was just a manic depressive, right? The ending of season 2 where he sings and only dreams about being with Nora and his entire family but then immediately is miserable again and isn't sure if he even wants to live. It was the same shit with his last wife, even before the departure.
Kevin was a paranoid schizophrenic with delusions of grandeur. He also had a huge tendency to self-destruct. Hereditary mental illness. Although him and his dad seemed to have calmed down after the 7-year anniversary.
>it's a Nora is happy episode
always kino. I started fricking bawling during the scene between her and Wayne when she asks "will I remember them?" just a brilliantly acted moment from the actor who plays Wayne.
I was starting to expect the music was just manipulating me into feeling things because of how often it appears, but it honestly is a combination of great writing, acting, and music
Carrie Coon just really sells whatever state of mind her character's in, be it the depressive widow or the comforting partner. The Lens episode in particular really demonstrates her range as an actress.
Yeah, I watched the show only recently and was desperate for conversation about it and went to the subreddit. I was surprised that some people thought she was a bad actress as it was airing. It was actually pretty funny to read people's reactions as it aired because every week more and more would tap out and say it sucked.
agreed. when Kevin is singing his song in the afterlife there is a flash of Nora smiling and I believe every man watching the show wanted to be with her too
Last season finale, when she’s fully nude and her body is legit banging. But there are clues in that season when she’s riding her bike and her ass seems like you can bounce a quarter off it.

The orchestral song from Kevin’s dreams is from a famous opera. His dad was in Australia on vacation and the first night he was in Sydney, he had tickets to go see the opera at the Sydney opera house. That big ass building by the bay that’s synonymous with Sydney pictures.
damn, that's great. i feel like i could watch this shit ten times and not catch everything. I'm worried to check out other Lindelof because i doubt it will compare
>that orchestral music Kevin hears in his dreams
definitely hilarious and for comedic effect. i'm glad they brought humor to that, especially the second time around. it would have been really fricking lame if they just played it straight
Yea. When whatshisface shoots Kevin in the dog house and Kevin wakes up at his hotel room again, naked. And he starts yelling “Motherfrickeeeeer!!!” at himself in the mirror and the violins start. What a laugh. What a show. So kino.
Another cool detail is when his dad is telling his story to the aboriginal elder and he mentions the night he ingested God’s tongue, he was on his way to the Sydney opera house to see the opera the music is from.

so if the departure happened we'd just be doing the same thing we're doing now?
imagine a scene of some anon getting another anon seething and he keeps refreshing with the theme song playing in the background because the other anon isn't responding
It was played for comedic effect. Ofcourse she’s not the reincarnation of Azazel. But the fact that a bunch of real scientists came to that conclusion is just ridiculously funny
anyone else get fricking chills when hearing the original theme song at the end of season 3? such a better theme song and intro sequence than season 2. i'm guessing they were trying to make the show appear "less dark"
I don't know if i'm just depressed or looking for purpose but I'm obsessed with this show. Sometimes I'll stay up for hours watching clips or listening to the music from it. Really hit for me, even though I think the first season has its flaws.

watchmen, mrs davis and station eleven scratch leftovers itch pretty nicely
he needs to swallow his pride and do some Big Finish Doctor Who
He already is.
oh damn!
thanks for the info
Wait really? He's not mad at the BBC anymore?
Oh he still hates Russel Davis and his cronies with a passion, but Big Finish isn't the BBC. He probably goes in, records his lines, has a laugh and a joke and goes home. No drama, just good times.
>doctor who
No, please, thank you, not today.
Wow that looks terrible, that's some Channel Awesome tier shit.
He's been doing it since like 2020 now, anon. Where've you been?
Big Finish isn't a part of the BBC; they've just been given the Doctor Who licence, so Eccleston feels comfortable working with them (but not so comfortable that he lets his 9th Doctor series have any references to the Time War or even any real depth or complexity at all)
so where the frick did all those people go?
It doesn't matter.
it would be nice to know
Nora says in the final episode. it's just whether or not you believe what she's saying is true. i personally think she's lying to finally be at peace, which is basically one of the main themes of the show

I stopped watching Lost when they introduced time travel.

The other side was real and so was the machine to get there.
Matt episodes were the best. I disliked him for a bit in the first season but he legit was the best person in the entire show.
what was their purpose? they always just say "you know" or "you already understand" when someone asks.
to make sure people never forget or move on
From my understanding they basically existed to remind people that the departure happened and there's no going back to "normal".
seems pretty extreme. why stone themselves to death? i got the feeling that they attracted a lot of mentally ill or unhappy people so dying was just part of their thing
Part of it was political. People like Patty and Meg are playing the game at a very high level. Meg especially. He was based
I always fricking loved the scene where he leaves Miracle and basically says frick you to John. However the song felt so corny to me
Matt at that point was dealing with his cancer coming back and was doubling down on mythologizing Kevin. Quite possible he was having a psychotic episode. That’s the thing about the 7-year anniversary of the Departure. Everyone was going thru some heavy shit.
Yeah, makes me so fricking sad that it ruined things with Mary. that was all he cared about until she got better. tragic ending for Matt
Later on, Kevin says Mary did take him back after Matt gave up on the whole thing and moved back to Mapleton.
I forgot about that. I'm glad he at least had a happy ending, even though he died and Nora didn't even come to his funeral, right?
Nora mentioned they already said their goodbyes. But Kevin did take it pretty bad when Nora didn show up to Matt’s funeral.

wait, when did Kevin see him on the news? was that before or after he saw him in the hotel scenes in season 2?
good point on the writing though, the show prevents you of being 100 percent certain on anything
Season 1 I think. Episode 8 or 9. Tiny shit like that makes it kino.
damn, i must have missed that. i remember they dropped something like that about the sitcom star hiding out in mexico or some shit really early on and brought him back too

headcanon
I got one episode into season 3 and dropped it. I might finish it one day so I'll be leaving this thread.
Anon, season 3 is famously kino and considered one of the best series of any show.
What’s going on here, an actual decent Leftovers discussion?
Tell me your favorite Matt episode
The first one. Or whichever one where he went to the casino.
>Briaaaaaaaaan!!!
>it's a Matt episode
Missed these threads. Telekino.
>it’s a Kevin has a nice family, second chance at happiness but he’s having schizophrenic flare ups and tries to kill himself episode
>it's a Kevin NEEDS to be kino incarnate episode
I feel like this show is similar to Raised by Wolves where it's just fricking insane but in such a unique, confident, cool way that I will always cherish it.
i got the impression that they almost fricked but didn't go through with it. bummer that her character was just deleted

Although him and his dad seemed to have calmed down after the 7-year anniversary.
right, so what about him dying and resurrecting?
>it's a Nora is happy episode
always kino.
So pretty. And the last season she’s so fit and hot. Coons is my celebrity crush.
agreed. when Kevin is singing his song in the afterlife there is a flash of Nora smiling and I believe every man watching the show wanted to be with her too
Yea I remember which shot you mean.
>Home, where my love lies waiting silently for me
>cuts to Nora smiling for a second
Last season finale, when she’s fully nude and her body is legit banging. But there are clues in that season when she’s riding her bike and her ass seems like you can bounce a quarter off it.
>he was on his way to the Sydney opera house to see the opera the music is from
maybe i'm just tired, but i don't understand. what music was he seeing?
The orchestral song from Kevin’s dreams is from a famous opera. His dad was in Australia on vacation and the first night he was in Sydney, he had tickets to go see the opera at the Sydney opera house. That big ass building by the bay that’s synonymous with Sydney pictures.
damn, that's great. i feel like i could watch this shit ten times and not catch everything. I'm worried to check out other Lindelof because i doubt it will compare
Anytime someone makes a Carrie Coon thread they always say she has an ugly body. I don't get it at all.
Some people have no taste.
>was starting to expect the music was just manipulating me into feeling things
Yea. That fricking piano music. Leftover suite I think. Hits me everytime.
I also starts chuckling as soon as I hear that orchestral music Kevin hears in his dreams.
>that orchestral music Kevin hears in his dreams
definitely hilarious and for comedic effect. i'm glad they brought humor to that, especially the second time around. it would have been really fricking lame if they just played it straight
Matt episodes were ridiculously kino. The casino episode where he puts it on black like 10 times in a row and wins every single time... keeno.
getting robbed immediately after made me think "this is the most Matt thing ever" even though it was only like episode 3.
He got the money back didn't he? it's been like 2 years since i watched but him winning was a sign from God and then after being robbed was somekind of a sign to him aswell.
he did. he finally fought back but just lost anyway because someone threw a rock at his head while helping members of the Guily Remnant
The most Matt thing ever is beating the shit out of the guy who mugged you, most likely killing him. But then missing the sale anyways cause you were trying to be a Good Samaritan.
exactly. i'm surprised the little boy he saved didn't stab him or something
What was with Matt having a dream about fricking Kevin's first wife? Kind of expected it to be a reveal they had an affair but it never happened
If you anons were in the Leftovers world, would you be:
>part of the Guilty Remnant
>a schizo like Kevin
>someone looking to faith like Matt or Michael
>having hookers shoot you like Nora
>a departed
i'd probably be departed or part of the guilty remnant honestly. i feel like i'm easily persuaded and then Tommy would come and rescue me later
It’s cool to thing we’d be part of the story. We’d probably be home jerking off and contemplating suicide
so if the departure happened we'd just be doing the same thing we're doing now?
imagine a scene of some anon getting another anon seething and he keeps refreshing with the theme song playing in the background because the other anon isn't responding
Well, yea man. We’re already living like departure happened. What’s a bit of magical realism gonna do?
>It's a Nora's a demon that is never mentioned again episode
It was played for comedic effect. Ofcourse she’s not the reincarnation of Azazel. But the fact that a bunch of real scientists came to that conclusion is just ridiculously funny
>its been 7 years since the finale
wtf bros
Yea I know.
sometimes I see Leftovers threads like this and only wish Twin Peaks threads could operate the same way
I was getting pretty nervous for Matt when everyone thought he raped Mary for a bit there.
i'm not sure how his normal accent sounds but his new york accent sounded funky as hell
anyone else get fricking chills when hearing the original theme song at the end of season 3? such a better theme song and intro sequence than season 2. i'm guessing they were trying to make the show appear "less dark"
I wish we got more Matt episodes. I guess the actor was having sort of a mental breakdown while making this show
how is this so fricking catchy and beautiful? I listened to those 46 seconds like a hundred times
Anyone who enjoyed leftovers should play max payne 1&2.
