Hope implies anon isn't Hopeless which means that wallowing in misery and self-loathing is a choice rather than the simple state of things. Anon would much rather things be Hopeless.
It's not so much hope as just a fantasy though.
Melody was an incredibly bland girl who had barely any personality outside of being nice & saying she liked the same manchild things as Soos.
The character wasn't about showing "there's someone for everyone out there, so don't give up," it was just dropping an unnaturally bland girl in Soos' lap so they could resolve the plot.
She thinks meat is cute. It says so right on the shirt. Female feeders are an ever-present danger.
They are writing from experience. Most people in a high enough position of success to be working on a cartoon probably have the soft power to tip the scales a little.
You know Cinemaphile, it felt so bizarre going from the fat kid over compensating for his ugliness with humor in highschool to a good looking athletic university student. The way people treat you is so different when you become athletic, years upon years of building up an entertaining persona finally pay off. Suddenly people approach you instead of you approaching them, girls actually get romantically interested in you, my niche hobbies I used to get teased for suddenly become acceptable and everything you say suddenly becomes twice as funny. It still feels like a fever dream, like I’ve become an entirely different person, and every time I see this trope in a cartoon I’m reminded about how shallow people can be. Whenever I hang out with “friends” I wonder if they would’ve been my friends if I were my past self. The same old me but less attractive.
