Batgirl got shitcanned because this guy hates streaming only movies and he is afraid that what is basically an equivalent of a made-for-tv movie would embarrass him if he tried to release it theatrically, and he is not going to spend millions reshooting it to try and make it worth a theatrical release when it was already finished, especially not when it’s the previous guy’s baby, not his. And again, he will not release movies on streaming, he is fundamentally opposed to the practice so “dumping” it isn’t an option.
Also, if you don’t know this, Hollywood executives as a rule hate everything that was greenlighted and filmed BEFORE they took their new job but is still going to get released AFTER they’re already in charge, because it’s a Catch-22: if it bombs it’s their fault, but if it makes money then the previous guy gets all the credit. It’s a lose-lose. This is why there are so many horror stories of the new boss taking over and immediately fricking over smaller shows that are like quirky cult hits that aren’t bad at ratings but aren’t smash hits either, and movies about to be released that are kinda weird or don’t fir the new boss’ taste. It gets especially bad if the new boss just doesn’t get what the appeal of the project is because then they’re extra vicious. Dave Foley’s the Wrong Guy movie from 1997 for example got shelved for couple of years because of this shit simply because it got finished just before a new guy took over the studio and when the new boss saw the movie he went “wtf is this shit” and refused to give it a theatrical release and it finally quietly dumped it on direct-to-video.
