It's a look into the cortex of Shinji's mind and what he imagines everyone thinks of him.

Actually, I don't know. Anno is a hack.

To understand the context of the last two episodes you should watch End of Evangelion right after episode 24 up to the point of Shinji's mindfrick montage when he goes into Instrumentality, then watch 25-26, then finish EoE.

If they had the money they would have done the same scene where it was motionless but had the camera rotate around Eva-01 for sixty seconds. Could have timed it so that it just needed one rotation and ended up back on the original frame then popped Kaworu's top. Would have been the perfect time to bust out some high fidelity 1996 era CGI.

You do not need to do this. You can watch in release order and if you are semi-literate you will understand the general idea. Rewatches will clarify. 5D complicated watching orders are liable to confuse you more than anything.

If you stop hating yourself you can literally walk away from anime and go outside, a whole new world opens up to you.
As opposed to EoE's "you want what the ending looked like in narrative, fine, it sucks, see you should have gone outside". Which isn't as mean spirited as Shin Fellators make it out to be.
Rebuild tries to blend the two by keeping contriving the narrative such that Shinji can actually, literally, walk out of the anime, instead of doing it in spirt in the tv ending or being trapped in his reality by EoE.

Why is a 14 year old personality so complex that he needs to go full scizh to find clarity within himself?

        Anonymous

The 14 year old character is a vehicle for the thoughts of the adult filmmaker. Every self-conscious adult is complex enough to warrant an equivalent schizo dive, though most don't feel the need to.

I haven't watched it since I was a young buck some 15-20 years ago, but here is my most likely wrong interpretation
    >adam+lilith (dna or whatever) is the source of the universe
    >reuniting them returns the universe to its primordial state to be reborn
    >shinji (the little moron) is present so his consciousness effectively exists at the source of the universe's rebirth
    >so he can remake it as he sees fit
    >he imagines/sees various alternative universes
    >eventually he realises it was just perfect just the way it was 🙂
    >everyone applauds, good job

The end of the original series was perfect and I feel bad about watching EoE, a pointless series of explosions for morons who didn't understand the original work and needed something easier to digest.

I'm personally convinced that EoE was just Anno shitting on all his "fans" after seeing them in person whining about how they didn't get it. Same with the Rebuilds, only those are just a quick way to make money.

Same here. I loved the original ending and I didn't even watch EoE or any of the movies and never intend to do so at all. The original ending was absolutely perfect and resonated with me on a deeper level.

Watched it for the first time as a 30-something with my girlfriend last year. I actually really enjoyed it and I could immediately connect with Shinji and what he was going through.

I think evangelion is underrated. Even my girlfriend could identify with Shinji's struggles. I think it is more pungent now in 2023 for millennials than it was when it came out.

Can just be the target audience, esp for deeper stuff like eva, also western equivalents aimed at young adults like capeshit dont have 12yr old protagonists.
