Having wives seemed based. They were really hot too. What was the problem with it? They're in the wasteland and life sucks for everyone but those wives. I was surprised to learn that she kills him in the next movie. To the writers' credit though, they did show the two mutant strikes you're out scene. I think the writers just assume that any sex slave in any context is irredeemably evil, which is not true. Think Circassian slaves to the Ottomans. Those chicks were bred and groomed to be sold as slaves by their mothers.

God fricking dammit. I am constantly floored by how consistently this board gets hung up on "muh frickin ethics and muh frickin morals" when it comes to TV shows and movies that are just meant to be visual entertainment. All characters see themselves as the "protagonists" of their own lives. Whether you side with Immortan Joe or Furiosa is besides the fricking point. The point is there's a conflict between these two characters/factions. Period. Conflict exists to create drama because without conflict there is no drama. For example, Terminator. One could certainly side with Skynet's AI and come to the conclusion that Humans are self destructive, Self centered, and capable of destruction on a massive scale, therefore they are a hostile species. That doesn't mean that Skynet is right or wrong, or that humanity is "right or wrong" in their constant arrogant pursuit of technology and power. It just means "look at this showdown between 2 different sides. Entertaining scenario to ponder, yes?". Just because a movie depicts one moral side as the victor over the other doesn't mean the writer or director is advocating for that side. James Cameron doesn't want a robot apocalypse, but "what if a robot apocalypse happened?" is an entertaining idea for a movie-- regardless of whether Sarah Conner wins or The Terminator does, regardless of whats right or wrong. Watch movies and enjoy the story, you dumb over analyzing pricks

It's fun conversation. Take it easy bud.

Still a much better life than living with disease, rape, deformity, starvation, dirt, squalor, extreme heat. Those women were living as extreme elites in that world and most would not have abandoned such luxury, even if there were some downsides to the arrangement, because the alternative was extremely dire.

They clearly demonstrate that with the birthing scene. The lady knows she's fricked and doesn't want to leave. Doesn't mean its okay for Immortan Joe to essentially have a caste that would do anything to escape the dirt.

Look at society in the real world. There are all sorts of people who would do anything to be higher up on the caste/class ladder. It's just human nature and Joe takes advantage of it. Same when countries colonize 3rd world countries, they give some people extra so they do not have to live in the dirt and squalor and can be above the peons, so they will do their bidding, and those people will do anything to keep that position.

I haven't seen the movie so be warned I'm talking out of my ass, I don't know what the actual movie is about.

Just from the fact that it was a prequel about young Furiosa, I assumed it would be about her and how she either came into Immortan Joe's service and or how she rose through his ranks to be whatever the frick her title was. So I wouldn't really expect them to be at odds. The impression I got from Fury Road was she was someone who eventually got sick of the shit he was doing or eventually felt sorry for the breeding stock and decided to betray him. Because the betrayal seemed to be a surprise anyway so I wouldn't imagine them hating each other from the first time they met.

But I'd like to hear how I'm wrong and what they did instead.

The main story is about Furiosa and Dementus, and how she hates him for what he did to her mom and her bf. Joe is a side character unfortunately and there are almost no scenes of her hating on Joe or having a major reason to.

They were treated like queens. All Immortan Joe has to do is threaten them with the maggot farm and they'd feel great as concubines. Did you watch how awful the people lived? If a woman were given the choice between sex slave to the man in charge or rape victim to some grunts, what do you think she'd choose? I don't like being submissive to women, so I'd leave with the male equivalent of Furiousa and found my own society. The problem with this line of questioning is men and women have different sexual preferences on average. Lots of chicks would scoff at Furiousa and tell her no way, I'm staying here. Yet, she left with all of them. That tells you the writers' assumptions. That's the basis of this whole disagreement. The assumption that men and women are interchangeable. Meanwhile, real life experience and the real choices men and women make tell you what's actually going on.

Does anyone actually think this girl would be excited to abandon her life as an object of lust to go off on an uncertain adventure? What are you even talking about that women hate the idea of being a breeding sow to the most powerful man in the world?

Who ever said Furiosa was the good guy? Evil people, especially women, need no reason to hate. They just do.

Oh look, another moron who can't understand Furiosa. How surprising that this moron posts on Cinemaphile's, formerly Cinemaphile's, formerly formerly Cinemaphile's, Cinemaphile board. Let me explain it for you, moron. You see, Furiosa came from The Green Place of Many Mothers. She had seen how a functional society could be run in The Wasteland. But look at how Immortan Joe runs The Citadel. It's a shitstorm communist oligarchy. Yes, that rights, you stupid chud nazi homosexual crust buster. The Citadel is COMMUNIST. So, the reason Furiosa hates Immortan Joe is because she knows The Citadel doesn't have to be run the way it is run. She knows it could be run better to the benefit of the people, that it could run more like a capitalistic society, where you need to offer services to keep the society running smoothly, and you are rewarded for offering your services. See, she knew all that because she had lived at The Green Place. That's why she hates Immortan Joe. He's a stupid fricking commie bastard running The Citadel into the ground.

in this world I would absolutely join Dementus to be honest. Being a war boy is technically lower risk of death since you get to live at the citadel, but they all get cancer and need constant aid and blood bags to live. Dementus is a master at fricking shit up, but can't build anything so it all falls apart in spectacular fashion. The only question is do you have it in you to make it epic.
