I thought the complaint about Netflix was people watched shit too quickly and marathoning has turned out to be a bad thing.

This is a complaint of reasonable people. Sandman appears to not have this problem, and Netfux doesn't like it.

it probably isn't even good for Netflix, but they think it is.

I'm surprised they did it that way. You'd think having a weekly episodic release would be more profitable because people would have to stay subscribed longer to finish a series.

Not really. If 1 million people watch something over a weekend or over two months the viewing figures will still be the same.
Normal TV presumably has a few months grace before renewals are confirmed and filming restarts so why would Netflix be different? They aren't obligated to renew stuff after a week.

      Anonymous

That and Gaiman is just sad that his probably long dreamed screen adaptation wasn't liked very much.

        Anonymous

It's probably a similar situation to King, the writer has a totally different sensibility of what the story is from a producer or director, and probably has no business trying to decide what should be on screens. Gaiman has just been much more protective of his brand, so waiting until Netflix gave him a carte blanche was a bit of a monkey's paw.

          Anonymous

And simply what works in a comic, doesn't work on screen.
You can get away with a lot more abbreviated storytelling or wacky concepts in a comic than you can in a TV series.

Nah they are just trying to tell the stories of the comics in publication order, without realizing the tempo of TV is diferrent and doesnt build the same

If the godawful Lock & Key adaptation can get three seasons (the comic is instead really good) then Sandman has no excuse since the source matrial is great. Maybe people are just watching the show "slowly" because it's boring and they're not exited for the next episode.

Like someone said above. I loved the Watchmen comic and really enjoyed the movie despite expecting to hate it. I have problems with it, but I think it's almost as good of an adaptation as you could get.

Pretty much. Sure, in case of some global blackout from sun flare that will wipe out everything from electronic devices, you will loose all your books. But at that point you will have bigger problems on your hands. In any other case when you can somehow generate electricity, storing a whole libraries worth of books on a single device is way better. Like, imagine dealing with thousands of physical books in your room. The weight alone would be in many hundreds of kilograms, if not tons.

Gaiman's track record really proves the fact that most people hate woke nonsense. People love his books and they have a huge following, even today. But you take those books a decade later and make them into TV shows with huge budgets and big name stars and figure they'll be a slam dunk ... and they fail. And the only thing that changed was the leftist politics getting shoehorned in.

One race swap in the entire cast, and it's a relatively minor character. That's gotta be a record for Netflix.

Kek, imagine shopping your property around for almost 3 decades, finally finding a home for it, but compromising all your artistic principles in the process and then it all rolls over and dies of wokeness in one season.

Shouldve genderswapped more characters and made them gayer, then it wouldve worked. And why not Sandwahhman instead, you bigot Gaiman.

Are you fricking daft mate? This sets a terrifying precedent. Netflix gave the show the axe specifically because people weren't binging it. This tells us that the only thing that matters to them is if people are chugging it down like wieners at a gay bathhouse, regardless if a show is good or not

            Look at Cinemaphile, its dying.
            [...]
keep manga cure and the american poison out. Theres something toxic in our hobbies.

they just have to look at comic books to understand they shouldn't listening to amerifat at all.
I follow comic book commentators just to laugh at the shit forced preachy writting.
            It's so pathetic, it's hillarious.

The comic book industry is already confirmed dead and there's absolutely no revival that could ever save it.

the majority of comic book authors don't sell nearly enough so it's a part time gig. This is also an issue because they can't afford to even fly to conventions which are becoming increasingly dominated by anime and manga.
            >Why don't they make new heroes, why do they make iron man a black girl, and Spiderman black etc
batman dominates with 80% of all sales while everything else just dies off after 1 issue.

This is why I laugh when I hear about someone complaining about a character that literally nobody knows about, being killed off in a marvel movie as a cheap gag, when they were totally the awesomest most badass person in history or something. not realizing that the characters name was worth less than a penny

When an industry fails to appeal to new generations, it's going to die. With comic books, the only people buying them are 40 year old white men. Kids in elementary school know Naruto, Goku and demon Slayer, none of them know who the flash is. And good fricking riddence, super hero comics had no story telling, no plot, no ending, no character. It's an intellectual property that gets passed off to different artists. These transient names are antithetical to art and writing.

Even the most shameless soft core porn manga about a kid having a Harem in middle school has more thought, plot and excitement than any comic book written in the last 20? 30 years?
Maybe because they are authentic, mangas are written by a single guy who had a new idea and went with it.
Comic books are written by committee, using a 79 year old IP, drawn by a contract artist, forcing a character to tell a relevant message when they were originally made before segregation was abolished.

So anytime someone says shit like "they weren't accurate to the comic book" you can kindly tell them to frick off.

              Anonymous

Well. A friend of mine just made a boys love graphic novel with a manga influenced artist at an indie publisher. Dunno how the sales of, but it certainly is more appealing to the anime con audience than just making Superman and Robin gay all of a sudden. That seems like a cheap gimmick. At least this is an original comic that stands on its own just like any BL anime or manga.
Even I can't be bothered with Marvel or DC these days. I'm sticking to back issues and old trades of older stories I missed or filling in gaps of issues in series I liked.

                Anonymous

Indie is the way to go.
A story in a book is a good story. A franchise that could fill a landfill is just merchandise.

Is it really cancelled? Best news I heard this month if it's true. Anything that disses my girl Death like this show did deserves worse than cancellation, they should fricking scrub this abomination from humanity's collective memory.
But I'll settle for the gainful unemployment and monetary loss of all parties involved, including Neil Cuckman. Any author worth his creation would've fought for his characters, specially the one he knows is the most beloved in his work, to be accurately, faithfully portrayed.
