BUT if there's mountains of porn, something about it is good or at the very least it was memorable for a time until it shit the bed (i.e. Homestuck). I kinda disagree on that. I think the Japanese product is consistently better than Western stuff on average in terms of writing and vastly superior in terms of art. But the Western peaks, simply because they are written by native English speakers, are just so much better even if they are so much fewer than the Japanese stuff.

I do not think the show is as forgettable as people in this thread are claiming.
That said the shoe is incredibly light. The humor is not particularly sharp or prominent as it's contemporaries and while Jenny does play the role of an action hero, the action itself wasn't particularly involved.
You pretty much watched this show because of Jenny. Even her supporting cast just kind of phases in and out based on convenience. They were mostly just more framing tools for Jenny. So it makes sense to me that a lot of people really into the show were infatuated with Jenny. Which usually leads to a specific thing as that audience grows up.
I do not think it was a bad show. But I also totally understand why the content of the show would encourage the kind of fanbase it has now. Not because of inherent lewdness in the shoe itself, but because the show essentially invites the viewer to be infatuated with Jenny.
I really don't know if this show has a significant enduring fandom of you remove the people who are passionate about the main character. So trying to victimize the show over this seems dishonest.

The problem with the show is the same problem with almost every show of it's time. It's always about some flavor of social out cast, who somehow has more friends in their circle than the supposed popular kids, trying to fit in. The bullies and opposition are often shallow, dull and exist entirely to antagonize the hero instead of being a natural part of the world. There's never a stated reason why they even want to be popular other than "that's what teens like right?" The hero will always go through the same motions, lean the same lessons, preach the same morals and yet next week it's back to the same routine. It's the same shit as Doug, it's the same shit as Danny Phantom, it's the same shit as Pepper Ann or any other of these shows. None of it ever feels genuine and in the worst cases it very obviously feels like the cartoonist is still bitter about growing up.
I still cant believe this episode is banned from TV and is likely to be lost forever if randos on the internet don't go out of their way to preserve it themselves.
I think it has a lot to do with how a lot of episodes (including the introduction of the character herself and like any Sheldon episode) had a suprsingly male perspective. And many episodes just focused on her were her trying to please her peers. It could easily paint XJ9 as some sort of simulated girlfriend material. I feel like giving her female peers who were actual characters would have helped avoid this notion. Maybe even just have Brit and Tiff warm up to her.

I do not think the show is as forgettable as people in this thread are claiming.
That said the shoe is incredibly light. The humor is not particularly sharp or prominent as it's contemporaries and while Jenny does play the role of an action hero, the action itself wasn't particularly involved.
You pretty much watched this show because of Jenny. Even her supporting cast just kind of phases in and out based on convenience. They were mostly just more framing tools for Jenny. So it makes sense to me that a lot of people really into the show were infatuated with Jenny. Which usually leads to a specific thing as that audience grows up.
I do not think it was a bad show. But I also totally understand why the content of the show would encourage the kind of fanbase it has now. Not because of inherent lewdness in the shoe itself, but because the show essentially invites the viewer to be infatuated with Jenny.
I really don't know if this show has a significant enduring fandom of you remove the people who are passionate about the main character. So trying to victimize the show over this seems dishonest.

Even Vexus and the bullies felt like they were minor elements who's lives revolved around Jenny. Honestly besides Jenny, only her mom felt like a consistently present character of her own, bothering to give her backstory and things to worry about besides XJ9.
A lot of the episodes are pretty damn thematically strong with what they intend to get across. I think Maybe Tuck, Brad, and Sheldon could've been further developed, but they aren't undefined, and they serve an important purpose in the show as the normal kids to give contrast to Jenny's maladjusted dynamics with the world and her mother. it is a bit distracting when characters are very overtly meant to be props though.
I guess it was a double edge sword. Made a great character stand out, to the point it's the only good part of it.

The problem with the show is the same problem with almost every show of it's time. It's always about some flavor of social out cast, who somehow has more friends in their circle than the supposed popular kids, trying to fit in. The bullies and opposition are often shallow, dull and exist entirely to antagonize the hero instead of being a natural part of the world. There's never a stated reason why they even want to be popular other than "that's what teens like right?" The hero will always go through the same motions, lean the same lessons, preach the same morals and yet next week it's back to the same routine. It's the same shit as Doug, it's the same shit as Danny Phantom, it's the same shit as Pepper Ann or any other of these shows. None of it ever feels genuine and in the worst cases it very obviously feels like the cartoonist is still bitter about growing up.

I think it has a lot to do with how a lot of episodes (including the introduction of the character herself and like any Sheldon episode) had a suprsingly male perspective. And many episodes just focused on her were her trying to please her peers. It could easily paint XJ9 as some sort of simulated girlfriend material. I feel like giving her female peers who were actual characters would have helped avoid this notion. Maybe even just have Brit and Tiff warm up to her.
