Too cartoonish in execution and they went so fast through the outfits there wasn't enough time to match the choreography with the outfits. It's like a fast forward scene. They should've let each outfit and matching character breathe more. But the idea looks good on paper, yeah. Also Ethan Hawke was atrocious in this. Again, I think it has more to do with a lack of screentime, his character is not properly set up. Instead of a memorable cameo, he just might just as well not have been in the movie. I do like the look of the movie.
Any time a friend comes to visit I force them to watch. I'm 6/6 on the exact same reaction I had, so I know they're all true friends. Surprisingly comfy as a gut check
The movie is trash but so much is PERFECTLY wrong that it's fascinating
He had 175 million to make that movie exactly how he wanted, and he chose to cast those two as leads. The emoest looking dork with absolutely no gravitas and a chick who looks like she's the overly artistic drama student that everyone would have sex with but not actually want to date.
Its not.
But it was a disappointment nonetheless. Everything is trash except the visuals. I liked the worlds they introduced scene after scene imo this would've been better as a high budget tv series.
The worlds in it didn't do justice crammed into a few seconds. Even the cgi was miles better than the shit we have now.
It suffers the same cons as Jupiters' Ascending.
I honestly really like it
My main complaint would be that the main plot is basically every movie plot ever - evil bad white men destroyed the holy and pure bastion of nature and peace and tranquility that the foreigners lived on
But honestly, this plot point was actually a very small part of the movie despite it being the 'main plot'
I find it comfy, creative, and enjoyable outside of that
I know people also hate the two leads, but I really like them. They felt a bit different than the usual. Is it a little goofy how they're so young but super space CIA cops or whatever? Sure, but it's a dumb silly movie and a young adult one at that
They weren't just Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, actually felt a bit different. I liked them.
I can see why the movie wasn't a big hit but I'm still glad it exists.
they probably didn't help
Honestly for some reason part of me wants to be on her side but then I know she's a feminist and thinks I'm a privileged piece of shit scumbag who deserves to be in prison for not liking trannies enough, so frick her.
He can be cringe sometimes. I don't hate it when he has musical sequences in his films but I'd rather be caught watching hardcore midget porn if someone walked into the room. Easier to explain
It is not actually bad, but the main protagonist duo fricking drags it to hell.
I have troubles remembering anyone else who had such effect on movie. Maybe that australian who played Kyle Reeves?
Yeah, Jai Courtney. I find it hillarious that only role he was ever good in was Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad, probably because he didn't have to pretend to not be an australian.
shame set designgernal story action set peices etc all good fun, but both of them drop the ball hard, badly cast, not their fault but still sry Dane I know you post here you are just not a good Valarian its suppose to be a bruce willis type, chris pratt would've worked too
chris pratt he'd just come off avengers and was working out and all that shit has the swagger but a more serious character I mean come o it worked perfectly in 5th element put a slummy type good natured cop into a french sci-fi
Yeah you're right. Was trying to think about anyone else who could've done it just as well but I'm coming up blank. Feel like whoever did the casting for this were trying to go for a YA thing and it backfired

In the making of documentary of the movie, Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières (the creators of the comic) are on set PRAISING the casting for being perfect.
They are 25th century action heros, not 21st century ones. Still, shit actors; but casting Chris Pratt completely misses the point
yes yes cara you were fine dane was miscast you are just always miscast, because your cara your still very cute, and I liked you in this, now go seek rehab immediately you rich b***h
The movie looks good despite its performances by its leads. We don't get good sci-fi anymore and this movie was chock full of it. If Cara had someone with the acting chops and charisma of Bruce Willis to bounce off of, her acting would have been better as opposed to the guy constantly high on xanax and detoxing before our eyes. Fifth Element had a b***hing cast and even the most minor characters were memorable. Valerian had many of the same ingredients except a few crucial ones.
The male lead (can't remember his name) killed this movie stone dead. Cara isn't up to much but with him to work with, who can honestly blame her for not shining?
The moment the cameras stopped she probably never spoke to him again, would not surprise me.
only reason to watch
only scene to skip
Umm, that's a black woman.
When she is the best actress in your movie, your movie is shit.
When I saw the posters I thought they would be siblings because the actors looked related.
Rihanna?
damn she's taking a worse beating here than, well you know
Hard 10

The Rihanna stuff dragged on for way too long.
Found to skizo zoomer
i can see it achieve cult classic status when parts from it are imitated by more profitable endeavors.
Cara is a prostitute who is getting gangbanged by BBC weekly
i had to turn it off before the real plot apparently even started
Any time a friend comes to visit I force them to watch. I'm 6/6 on the exact same reaction I had, so I know they're all true friends. Surprisingly comfy as a gut check

the story is a mess and the blue Black folk iritating but kinda comfy movie
It ruined his studio.

their relationship wasnt bad. and she wasnt annoying which is praiseworthy in these times
I honestly really like it

are all these flops the reason cara ended up a druggie?
they probably didn't help
Honestly for some reason part of me wants to be on her side but then I know she's a feminist and thinks I'm a privileged piece of shit scumbag who deserves to be in prison for not liking trannies enough, so frick her.
She's from a rich family. money is not an issue.
Pretty sure the b***h is related to royalty. She's not ugly but never would've gotten as far as she has without the connections
money is not the only reason you would want to be an actor.
Model turned actor. Its easy to be mediocre as frick and stuff have a career. Connections and daddy's moolah
Still*
The source material is much better.
based Besson apologist
Besson is a good filmmaker, Fifth Element and Taxi Taxi are treasures.
He can be cringe sometimes. I don't hate it when he has musical sequences in his films but I'd rather be caught watching hardcore midget porn if someone walked into the room. Easier to explain
i didnt like fifth element, there i said it
Yes, you said it, and now apologize.
Thank you. Its really not as bad as people make it out to be. It's one of those films I'll watch once a year after a couple drinks
Hi Dale
It is not actually bad, but the main protagonist duo fricking drags it to hell.
I have troubles remembering anyone else who had such effect on movie. Maybe that australian who played Kyle Reeves?
Yeah Sam Worthington, same thing with Jai Courtney. Plus the guy from John Carter and that dogshit Wolverine prequel
Yeah, Jai Courtney. I find it hillarious that only role he was ever good in was Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad, probably because he didn't have to pretend to not be an australian.
Yeah I thought it was funny when people were praising him for acting less
to be fair Jai Courtney is the least bad of those generic dudes
He works better as an antagonist, thought he was pretty okay in that Tom Cruise Jack Reacher film
the only good part is the intro
not that good either, leads sucks its been said a thousand times
Definitely not a leading man
shame set designgernal story action set peices etc all good fun, but both of them drop the ball hard, badly cast, not their fault but still sry Dane I know you post here you are just not a good Valarian its suppose to be a bruce willis type, chris pratt would've worked too
Who do you think would've been the best choice in 2017?
chris pratt he'd just come off avengers and was working out and all that shit has the swagger but a more serious character I mean come o it worked perfectly in 5th element put a slummy type good natured cop into a french sci-fi

Was a fun movie
Cara held her own and it's rare to have a white pretty face as a lead these days
yes yes cara you were fine dane was miscast you are just always miscast, because your cara your still very cute, and I liked you in this, now go seek rehab immediately you rich b***h
Cara, anytime you're in front the a camera you're miscast. You're miscast as attractive in your nudes
I don't think it was even bad.
I want Cara to put me in her sex swing and peg me.
I never understood the whole pegging thing. Do you frick them after or something?
it only makes sense in the mentally ills head
It was pretty RAUNCHY and LITTY
Cara can't act but I'll try watching anything for a chance to look at her <3
why is the director on a poster?
if you look at them as brother and sister yeah it's incest kino
Yes it was
Valerian will age well.

Fully agree.
The male lead (can't remember his name) killed this movie stone dead. Cara isn't up to much but with him to work with, who can honestly blame her for not shining?
The moment the cameras stopped she probably never spoke to him again, would not surprise me.
It was shocking to watch the movie and see that's she's the better actor of the two
What the frick was he actually thinking casting these two?
my only guess is he wanted to frick either one of them
and how
Because the dude for whatever reason tried to be Keanu Reeves doing emotionless but also Bill and Ted
Killer robots were kino but they only used them at the end. I see what he was going for but it missed. Also, the way and how they used them was dumb.
It actually was fun. Saw it twice, liked the second time even more than the first.
>it's not that bad..
Ok. It's not any good either.
