Its over for Disney

Brace for a huge debt load boys, we are going in dry

>Disney has culminated one of the most active discussions in media entertainment, agreeing to purchase Comcast's remaining 33% share in Hulu, which has been announced recently.

>Reuters reported Tuesday that the two companies are looking to hire a third outside financial adviser to determine the value of Comcast's share in the streaming company

>This came after Disney's adviser, JPMorgan Chase, and Comcast’s consigliere, Morgan Stanley, came in with valuations that were more than 10% apart from one another.

>As it happened, JPMorgan Chase surprised Disney, valuing Hulu at $27.5 billion, while Morgan Stanley put the number at above $40 billion.

>The valuation now can be no lower than $27.5 billion, which is the floor value assigned to Hulu in the 2019 “put call” agreement between the two media giants, the deal that paved the way for Comcast to sell its share in the former joint venture.

>Disney preciously hoped that the payout would’ve been 8 billion to 12 billion, basing that on Hulu’s initial valuation when it started.

Now pic related happened. What’s going to happen to the mouse and its properties, Cinemaphile? Are we going to witness the death of the mouse? Or the death of it’s empire?

Sad but true. I say sad because they are so deeply entrenched into the federal government when they shouldn't be. They are the ones willing to push BlackRock's agenda because they believe in the cause. And BlackRock controls the U.S. government ever since they bought our debt in the 2008 financial crisis.

Disney has to pay Comcast anywhere between 27.5B and 40B+(can mean anywhere from 41B to 100B, last quotes were 70B when we discussed this).

Disney can’t afford this. They’re either going to add whatever number that is on top of their existing debt (47B). Either Disney will go bankrupt, sell each of its assets to the highest bidder, or let Comcast have a controlling stake and buy Disney. In other words, they’re fricked

I think that's what's going to happen. ~~*Disney*~~ parks is the money maker since their film division went totally woke. However, they can sell off shit like their cruise line, Lucasfilms, Marvel, and even their foreign parks to make cash. Imo, that's what's going to happen. They will still have parks and some seblance of a studio, but they'll sell off some of their other shit.

Hulu was founded in 2007 and was originally a joint venture between Fox, ABC/Disney, and NBC/Comcast because, get this, they thought that each of them having their own streaming service would fracture the market too much for any of them to be successful and so wanted to join force so everyone could access content from all of them in one place. (It was also originally completely free if you were watching stuff from the OTA networks that had originally aired during the current TV season. Hulu's first three or four years were the absolute consumer ideal for streaming and everything is so much worse now, but that's a different story)

Anyways, Disney buying Fox fricked up the arrangement because it gave them majority control of it. Comcast threatened to fight the acquisition on anti-trust grounds so Disney promised they would pay them fair market value for their stake in Hulu or $10B, whichever is more.

Hulu was meant to compliment linear TV, but Netflix gained so much popularity that it started killing off linear. The studios figured it would be better to get everyone to pay them $10/month instead of splitting that three ways, so they got greedy and splintered off into their own services.

Iger is a genius who had the good sense to quit six months before his bad decisions finally started catching up with the company. Everything bad that happened afterwards was blamed on his successor (Marvel box office is down 60%! This is clearly the fault of the guy who wasn't even here when the movies were shooting!) and then he got invited to come back with even greater compensation to save the company. It's beyond saving, but Wall Street doesn't know that yet.

I'm sure they were just after those Blackrock bucks. If they had a heart they wouldn't have given their top brass massive raises during the pandemic, then used the pandemic as an excuse to throw their cast members overboard because they were too expensive.

Everyone blaming culture war shit is demonstrating their online brain rot. That's not what is fricking Disney or all the other media/entertainment companies that are getting fricked right now. It's the Fed raising interest rates that's got them bent over the barrel. These companies were skating by on absurdly low interest rates for years, and racked up massive amounts of debt because it was easy to pay off. Now that's no longer the case, and a huge portion of their revenue is now having to go to servicing those debts. The consequence is plummeting profits and less money to invest in opportunities for growth, thus resulting in investors taking their money elsewhere.

Even if a movie is a massive flop it means they lost maybe $100 mill or so bucks on it, which when their debt is 400 billion is pretty much a drop in the bucket. (For example, Avatar 2 + Avengers Endgame combined would only account for 1~% of the cost to cover that.)

The woke shit very well hurts their overall brand but that's a different discussion.

          >400 billion
Shit I meant 40 billion, which is about to balloon higher with the comcast debt. Point still stands though.

          Anonymous

Debt is not relevant, only revenue is. What % of their revenue is $100m? You're underselling their flops, they're hurting more than $100m. Annual revenue for 2023 was $88bn, so conservatively they're losing 0.5% of that. Flops have a cascading effect. Next year you have less wiggle room, more uncertainty. You can't fail upwards as a business without subsidies, if your products suck, you will get fricked. Calling it "culture wars" is moronic, there are no wars when it comes to kids butchered genitalia.

            Anonymous

Disney's 2023 revenue was $88.9 billion, so $100 million was 0.1% of their revenue. Meanwhile if their debt servicing goes up 3 percent, that's an additional $1.6 billion/year to keep up with the payments.

          Boomers

TLDR, your government retirement pension fund and social security are outsourced to/managed by companies like Blackrock and Vanguard

And they invest your money for you and keep it growing etc… you don’t get a say, most global governments outsource their pension funds/sovereign wealth funds, etc… to these israeli companies

So these ESG israelites are losing YOUR tax dollars, not their own money

Let's also remind them that social security might not exist anymore in a few years. Is that partly because of bad money management by BlackRock?

              Anonymous

              Not him.
The main cause of that is that social security is a pyramid scheme.
It can never work in reality (in theory it could with massive perpetual growth and returns).
It requires a constant influx of new labors to parasitise (who are then promised their own pension as a reward) to fund it, they get old and it requires even more etc.
This is openly used as the excuse for why we """need"" hordes of subhuman invaders who will supposedly prop it up by being productive members of society. Nevermind that they are net drains their entire lives and so only exacerbate the problem, even if they did work and weren't just leeches they would eventually retire too and just make the problem worse.
The establishment knows this, they just don't care because the real reason never ending hordes of subhuman invaders are brought in is for White genocide.

I'm sure we'll still be forced to pay in with every paycheck even though we won't see any of it when it's time for us to retire.
