Old school working actor. I thought he was the guy from Major Dad but that was like a knock-off Dabney Coleman. Anyway, he was good. Great utility player.

Looked up that actor. Simon & Simon was before my time and didn't have staying power in the zeitgeist. I knew him as Major Dad. Apparently he's also a working actor but about 15 years younger than Dabney was. Still working! Good for him.

same, thats one of those VHS boxes i feel like I would see in every video store or even in like a Kmart or wherever was selling used movies. that and the Dick Tracy VHS are the two in my mind that seemed like they were everywhere for a good couple years in the 90s

I saw Dick Tracy in the theaters when it was released. I thought it was fricking awesome. Hello, ageing Millennial. 'member when you used to go see a movie like once a week? I 'member.

i miss it, every now and then i get the urge to again but then i pull up the schedule of whats playing and its always such dogshit i just cant do it. i feel like dumb comedies (as a kid i literally saw every 90s Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Farley, Wayans brother, etc movie in the theater opening weekend, those were the days) were always the most fun ones to see in the theater and when they stopped making those in the last 10 years it took most of the fun out of going to the theater anymore.

              Anonymous

Elder Millennial here, its impossible for zoomers to comprehend the amount of movies I have seen. Between, the movies, rentals, hbo, and general television. Before the internet one of the primary means of entertainment was movies. The funny part is Im just average there were people who were a whole lot more into movies than me.

He was awesome. My daughter was just in a youth production of 9 to 5 that was really good, so I saw the movie for the first time. Coleman was excellent at playing an arrogant rich guy. I thought it was cool that for such an old movie all the stars were still alive.

      Anonymous

I kind of like how the only people who remember him in this thread are old as frick. To be fair, I had no idea he was that old. He was discount Gene Hackman, but in a good way. He seemed not to like doing comedy but that was his strong suit.

beverly hillbillies movie adaptation was better than most people probably remember. RIP Ernest, Cloris, and Dabney

      Anonymous

Beverly Hillbillies is such a typically early to mid 90s movie based on a tv show from the 50s/60s it's almost too good for it, like the Brady Bunch movies.

based, Jim Varney was kinda perfect for the role too, makes me sad we didnt get to see him and more non-Ernest roles he died just as he was starting to do more of them. there was that one 3 Ninjas sequel where he was the bad guy

That was his whole shtick in his standup and then after Police Academy he was stuck keeping it up for the next decade. He pretty much stopped doing it after the 90s and talks in his real voice now, I don’t think he even performs much anymore mostly directs now.
