E/I regulations are easy to skirt. Virtually every 1 Saturday Morning / ABC Kids show was E/I when it had no business being. If they reran GI Joe with the PSAs at the end, I bet you it counts.

The final straw was when the government mandate for educational material was raised from something like 10 minutes to half an hour.

              Blame Obama, literally
Fast Food companies were bankrolling cartoon blocks and the HEATHY FOOD craze caused them to back off
it was around that time that Saturday morning blocks were moving to cable
and then the government kept increasing over the air networks to air more educational material with stricter rules instead of just putting on an return of Bill Nye at 5am right before 4 hours of Pokemon

                Anonymous

Cereal was well. Cereal companies paid for the creation of the shows since the early 1960s. Fastfood paid for airtime on saturday mornings. Plus in the 80s and early 90s toy companies also funded the creation of shows, which was made illegal.

Most channels could get around the educational mandate by having short PSAs or Schoolhouse Rock during commercials or between shows. But when it was jacked to absurd levels no one could keep up. WB tried with Hysteria but that ran out after a while and no one was going to pay for half an hour or more of educational stuff that would just be a ratings hole.

Basically screeching karens demanding more and more and more regulation killed the saturday lineup.

they apparently don't know what DVDs are. overheard IRL two kids about 10 asking their dad if they had a CD player for the movies they kept picking up.

I literally blame the parent at that point. Why the frick did he not have DVDs anymore and then get annoyed that his wiener kids were too dumb to know what a DVD was??

I feel bad for these kids man. Being obsessed with the TV was one thing, it's stationary you have to leave it eventually before streaming it was easier to unplug. Tv kids channels were so beloved they would have also at least advetise going outside at one point. Growing up I was obsessed with the TV wich compared to today had minor consequences on my education. But kids now and days are obsessed with the internet wich is alooot more dangerous, that can be taken anywhere. The internet is a harbor for keeping people ignorant, obsessed, and depressed.
        >kids will never know the excitement of having to catch a show or not at all
        >kids only have shitty binge or crappy release format
        >kids will struggle to watch the old kino shit cuz it's treated nonexistent

I made my own linear TV channels for my kids full of great preschool shows. I just worry that by the time he gets to elementary school some kid with shitty parents will expose him to horrific YouTube stuff and he'll want to watch it to be "cool". Then I'm the bad guy for not letting my kid watch garbage and get picked on by other bullies at school for not watching it or being a "baby" or what the frick ever.

If it's Fox vs Kids WB then it's the late 90s/early 2000s during a time when Fox Kids Saturday mornings were dead and Kids WB were dominating.
    Hell let's take 1999.
    Fox Kids
08:00AM Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century
    08:30AM Monster Rancher
    09:00AM Digimon: Digital Monsters
    09:30AM Xyber 9: New Dawn
    10:00AM Monster Rancher
    10:30AM Digimon: Digital Monsters
    11:00AM Beast Machines: Transformers
11:30AM The Avengers: United They Stand

    versus Kids WB
    08:00AM The New Batman/Superman Adventures
    08:30AM Pokémon
    09:00AM Batman Beyond
09:30AM Men in Black: The Series
    10:00AM Pokémon
    10:30AM Detention
11:00AM The Cat & Bunny Warneroonie Super Looney Big Cartoonie Show
11:30AM The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries

Kids WB has the superior lineup.

      >Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century
      >The New Batman/Superman Adventures
      Easy Kids WB victory.
      >Monster Rancher
      >Pokemon
Another easy win for Kids WB.
      >Digimon
      >Batman Beyond
Together choice but again I'm going with Kids WB.
      >Xyber 9
      >Men in Black
Another easy win for Kids WB.
      >Monster Rancher
      >Pokemon
      Again Kids WB.
      >Digimon
      >Detention
      Fox Kids wins this one.
      >Beast Machines
      >Big Cartoonie Show
      Fox Kids again.
      >Avengers
      >Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries
Kids WB but I'd probably just go outside at that point.
      Overall Kids WB wins in.

That's more of an afternoon cartoon they also had on saturdays on occasion. The typical saturday stuff was things like Superdave, Little Shop, Killer Tomatoes, just not great. By the tie they got X-Men, Spider-Man, Tick, and the better seasons of Eek things were okay.

It depended on where you lived. PR seasons were weekdays with new episodes on Saturdays in NYC, not so in other locations.

In my area Saturday morning cartoons were kind of shit.

ABC quit playing saturday morning cartoons in 1993
    Fox in 2002
WB and CBS switched channels for some reason in 03-04 and only CBS still had cartoons until they quit around 05

There are a couple youtube channels that piece together saturday morning blocks to network and year.

From what I see things are kind of boring from the late 70s until 86 or so, then they get pretty good again until 92-93, except Fox. Fox is awful from start until 95 or so.

WB was better when barely anyone else was playing the game any more. Fox was vastly superior, slightly before WB came along. And even then people argue NBC or CBS was king before that.

My mom worked weekends and my dad worked nights so he'd sleep in until lunch on Saturdays. I would watch an entire block of SMCs from start to finish every weekend for YEARS.
A part of my childhood died when NBC cancelled their Saturday morning cartoons and replaced them with live action Saved By The Bell type shit. I actually liked those godawful Mario cartoons...
Honestly if you want to go really hardcore with this topic you'd ask where syndicated weekday morning cartoons were.

Younger 2000s kid here. My mom worked 13 hour medical shifts when she wasn't working she was sleeping. My dad wasn't in the picture so my internet and TV access was pretty open most of the time (binged TV more cuz back then I had to share a family computer.)

I still remember being able to watch TV for HOURS back when CN had a kino line up like pic related. Watching that shit with my sister growing up was so special we'd quote lines on the playground or in school almost like a shitty second language. I can't belive I took that for granted, now noone can stand to even have cable and I don't blame them longer commercials and shitty line ups. I miss being able to just turn on the TV and relax to a colorful array of entertainment. Used to channel hop cuz I couldn't pick it was all too good now I hop cuz nothing is fricking good enough.

      Wtf happened man?
