How about just explaining to casuals like me how we went from black Spiderman to ghetto offensive Thor. Will this character ever have his own identity or is his whole theme being a racebent version of more popular white characters?

Well, dumbass, there’s this thing called the Multiverse and this concept called What If…? in Marvel comics. When out together, you get alternative versions of characters from other worlds. Like what if Miles had been Thor instead of Spider-man. Now please do go on and keep whining about things you don’t understand and being angry at tropes and things that have existed for decades because suddenly it’s bad because it involves someone who is *gasp* black.

            Anonymous

I think the crux affecting Miles reputation is that this WhatIf exposes that the character has had very little that's unique to him.
This Thor of the Hood had nothing in common with Miles besides having an evil uncle. But when you think about it you realize the character of Miles has existed without creating more of an impression.

              Anonymous

This entire What If series is about doing multiple different versions of Miles and explore how his family connections impact his life in different circumstances. What is wrong with that? All these threads prove is how much people seethe over Miles simply existing and how triggered people are about black people. It’s especially telling how you had multiple issues before this one come out and nobody cared but now this one has people whining about it nonstop, because it’s about Miles as a Thor avatar.

What If is supposed to be shit like "What if Miles picked up Thor's hammer?" not "What if literally every character in the story was entirely different and we just slot Miles Morales and his supporting cast into the roles of Thor characters and had these shit-awful rhymes?"

What Ifs can be about anything. Including what if Miles was Thor in this blaxploitation Asgard.

I don't think there's any problem with it just that this issue sucks shit and deserves every mocking it gets

                >What Ifs can be about anything.
And they shouldn't be about things so stupid that it detracts from the possible enjoyment of the work such as: What if Asgard was Harlem? And frankly there shouldn't be anything about miles because he still doesn't have a fricking personality of his own to work with. You can't say its 'what if miles were thor' because you can't tell its miles morales rather than just black thor. None of the characters were of his supporting cast, he acted nothing like miles nor modern thor, its literally just
                >what if I made Thor as stereotypically black as possible up to a completely uncaring father?

                >And they shouldn't be about things so stupid

How is it stupid to reimagine Miles’ family and surroundings in Asgardian context? It’s a What If story. It’s a serviceable Thor story.

                >And frankly there shouldn't be anything about miles because he still doesn't have a fricking personality of his own to work with.

So now you just want to continue whining about Miles existing, period.

                >You can't say its 'what if miles were thor' because you can't tell its miles morales rather than just black thor.

You can, because the story is about his complicated relationship with his uncle, who is a supervillain and important aspect of Miles’ character and background. It also doesn’t need to generally be exactly like normal Miles because again, the point is to play around with Miles being other characters and explore how his family is a fundamentally important thing about defining the character.

                >None of the characters were of his supporting cast

The majority of the story involves Miles dealing with his uncle, who plays the part of Loki. The other supporting cast that there is in the story is largely irrelevant apart from being a transition to the actual plot of Loki tricking Thor to do his bidding.

                >what if I made Thor as stereotypically black as possible up to a completely uncaring father?

Odin has always been an butthole father. The story is over the top, but it’s intentionally being that. It’s not pushing a negative stereotype.

I don't have any problem with black Marvel characters. I'm just angry Miles is always being used to subvert white characters. It's not the characters fault, but bad non-black writers who are using him for some other agenda and to demoralize white men.

If you like Miles, that's fine. Unfortunately, Miles, a fictional black man, is the one that often gets the hate when all of it should be directed at pasty "israeli spanish" subverters, like pic related.

                >It's not the characters fault
What character? He gets written as a stereotypical black man as Thor because he doesn't actually have consistent character traits in the comics.

Or, you know, being Thor all his life in this alternative world means he’s very different type of person JUST LIKE MOST ALT.VERSIONS ARE.

          Let's see.
We could start with the fact that Miles was never anything more than a publicity stunt for Bendis to get royalties and attract attention to dying thanks to people losing interest after Loeb's shitshow Ultimate Comics line. He's shallow by definition.

Bendis writing him as hispanic and then "forgetting" because Trey-Trey got blown the frick out.
This mexican israelite writer going so far in the black direction is just a remarkable twist of irony.

Wait, Bendis? The Bendis who once made some great storylines? I don't know about the storylines part I just heard about it somewhere but if this is what Bendis has become, that is sad.

If it were up to me, I'd remove the venom blast so that Miles has to rely entirely on his stealth cloaking ability, downplay his webs so that he uses parkour more, change his name to Shadow Spider or something like that, and make him a weeb that likes anime and tcgs.

I was going to call bullshit on that price point but now that I think about it the controversy has probably turned it into a collector's item because Cinemaphile slash outrage twitter can't wrap their heads around the concept of the Streisand Effect.
