It's only tryhard in the sense that nothing else tries. It's fine, aggressively mediocre really, but the scene has glorified Flash animations get buzz which just makes this stand out even more.

Underbellies are often directly shown to the audience. The term is fine as long as there's a bright cherry side and a dark side that's meant to be hidden yet gets revealed
