It’s weird seeing Miracleman being forced into the marvel universe. Is he even powerful enough in a world full of superheroes to be considered a game changer? Feels like Thor, Silver Surfer, Hulk could all kill him. Iron Man could science his way to kill him. Strange could magic him to death

It’s kind of like how Doomsday clock delays took so long that Manhattan being behind the reboot of the DC universe ended up not happening

They planned Miracleman to appear in this Kang focused story Timeless, presumably due to Kang fucking with time and this somehow makes Miracleman appear in marvel. Also to promote Kang before his movie appearances

But Neil Gaiman is so fucking slow the Miracleman man silver age comics have been delayed countless times, so they keep putting off him appearing in marvel since his own fucking story isn’t remotely close to being done

This makes me think they were genuinely planning to have Miracleman become a permanent resident of the main marvel universe. So they need his own story in his world to end first. The way it’s going it looks like some kind of collapse will happen and he will decide he’s more of a threat and problem to his own world and leaves. Then shows up in marvel somehow. Probably fights heroes and villains. Then decides to stay.

Miracleman is definitely a character that could be a hero or villain or anti hero. He’s currently ruling earth in a benevolent dictatorship he forced all governments to accept. But the world fucking sucks and is a degenerate shithole where people have orgies in the street, enter lotteries for the chance to live in garbage dumps, and give themselves cancer for fun because their lives are so dull. He’s turned earth into a giant amusement park for retards

Also there’s just tons of superpowered people LARPING in costumes as superheroes even though there’s no supervillains. Some from genetic modification, some because Miracleman donated tons of his sperm to any woman who wants a super kid. And the story openly shows how fucking shallow and pathetic the whole thing is. The aliens think earth is vapid and dangerous because of how little they give a shit about anything and will probably try to wipe out earth because of it

Dickie here was a kid in the sixties and was revived by Miracleman to assuage his own guilt, so he remembers what the world was like before Miracleman “saved” it and is rightly disgusted by the whole thing

I heard that and it wouldn’t surprise me as stupid as it sounds. Gaiman clearly was bullshitting when he said he had all these issues written decades ago already.

              >endless delays (even though he claimed he’d already had them written years earlier?)
              >Gaiman now not even the only writer, artist is co writing it
              >last two issues literally wasting time and space with reprinting old classic Miracleman comics entirely within the new comic. Zero progress
              >NO hints at Dickie being a girl originally, or even in the new comics. The last issue with the page I just posted showing the sex change virus is the only possible hint and it’s literally just before it might reveal this secret lmao

I guess Gaiman couldn’t think of anything so he’s just gonna shove in a tranny story. Nobody can criticise it then

If it's true I could see being either way, it's most likely because current year shit, but there is a *slight* chance it's actually something he could have thought of years ago to play with the fact that for some reason MM had two male sidekicks instead of having a Mary Marvel knock off.

I’d buy this if there was even the tiniest hint of Gargunza having done this but I can’t recall any.

Also MM has literally resurrected Gargunza at this point and talked to him with all his memories intact… and also has been observing Dickies memories in some machine that collects them.

and he has been desperately trying to “figure out” what’s wrong with him. So I’m not sure how he could not have figured out he was originally a girl by now. Either from Gargunza or Dickies memories

Besides Buckingham redrawing the entire Silver Age arc, two reasons have been speculated for the delays and :

                1. Marvel fucked up Rich Veitch's contract so that it only covered reprints and since he owns the rights to Miraclewoman's design, Marvel had to slow wine and dine the notoriously prickly Veitch to get him to permanently sell his stake in the Miracleman franchise.

                2. When the Silver Age was originally being published (with no set schedule and huge delays between issues), a mini-series featuring Miraclewoman was planned and written that would have ran during the planned gaps between the last couple of issues to better establish her turning out to be evil all along, culminating in her killing MMs ex.

Neil was going to reference the mini but Eclipse went out of business before they could assign an artist to draw the scripts. As such, the rights went back to the original writer since the scripts were never published and Marvel had to find the writer and buy them/Neil rewriting Silver Age to reflect the plot points in the mini in the main book or that Neil had to rewrite shit to remove all reference to the mini after Marvel couldn't get the writer to sell his scripts to them.

That does explain why as a character Miraclewoman is pretty fucking underdeveloped considering how important she is to MM and the world at large. So far she’s basically just been depicted as always being right. And was kind of a spinster as a human, and innately attracted to MM

Not sure what her motivation for killing MM or toppling his rule would be. He seems to basically just do whatever she wants anyway so it can’t be power?

IIRC the Miraclewoman mini would have revealed that she was always a willing participant in Gargunza's experiments and conspiring to avenge his death; hence why she kills MM's ex-wife, who finds out that Miraclewoman's claim that she and Young Nastyman were off-the-books experiments to create his own private super-heroes was a lie.

Hmmm. This doesn’t sound consistent with what we saw previously though? Wasn’t Gargunza raping her unconscious body while she was in the dream memory machine?

Also wouldn’t Mikes wife be like 50-60 by now in the comics present day? How is she gonna discover this and get killed? Or was it gonna be a flashback to her doing it much earlier and MM not figuring it out for some reason?

MW has been seen frolicking with human men, so perhaps she wants Mike's human body. To get it, she'll release KMM, force MM into becoming Mike to live, then kill KMM. Or, that's the first schizo plan I got.

Don’t understand any aspect of that plan lol

KMM or another evil super being is lethally injured by and lethally injures MM. MM becomes Mike to survive. Mike's sexy human body is now prime for MW, after she kills the bad guy before they can swap too. MW kidnaps our poor chubby Mike, achieving her dream.

                This isn't what happened.

Eclipse wanted a Miracleman mini-series because the gaps between issues of the main series were long and getting longer (in part because Gaiman and Buckingham felt that Eclipse wasn't paying them promptly, and they routinely downed tools until Eclipse settled up). Gaiman and the Eclipse editorial team brainstormed the outline of a story called 'Miracleman Triumphant' that would take place in the gap between The Golden Age and The Silver Age and wouldn't interfere with the story Gaiman was telling in the main series. In recent years Gaiman has said that he has absolutely no recollection of his part in coming up with the plot of this mini-series, so the contents of this spin-off story are unlikely to have been in any way vital to the story Gaiman was telling.

The first issue of Miracleman Triumphant was written by Fred Burke (and drawn, by Mike Deodato who claims he was never paid for it) but Eclipse went under before it was published. The full script fot it leaked online about a decade and a half ago, and there's nothing in it to suggest the Miraclewoman is secretly evil.

I doubt Marvel ever attempted to buy the rights to Miracleman Triumphant because 1) it wasn't finished, 2) it wasn't published and 3) it wasn't by a name writer like Moore and Gaiman. But even if they had attempted to buy the issue and failed, Gaiman wouldn't have had to change his story because there's nothing in Miracleman Triumphant that telegraphs a heel turn by Miraclewoman.

They don’t actually enjoy them beyond the most juvenile shit like play fights that destroy fake cities though.

Just a few issues ago we had Dickie meeting the first human Miracle Man used his new gene altering tech on to make him into a superhuman. I think he won the lottery to get the chance

Mister Master is obviously a big celebrity back then (the nineties I think?) but he quickly becomes disillusioned and ends up as a hermit on a mountain.

Big problem IMO is that you’re kind of pointless as a superhero in a world where there’s no supervillains, no major crime, no natural disasters or issues that can’t be fixed with the new tech etc

So why are they even bothering with this shit? They don’t even enjoy it. Dickie has chosen to remain human to climb the mountain to meet this dude despite it being so much harder, because he wants to think and flying there in two seconds as Young Miracleman isn’t going to actually mean anything.

This is a pretty interesting character. He's like the exact opposite of MM, as his human side won against the super side. Makes me wonder if the human within MM is truly 'dead'.

                >Makes me wonder if the human within MM is truly 'dead'.

That’s the thing though. The reason he’s thinking like this is because even though he has the same ideas and general feelings or thoughts… miracleman’s brain is not the same as Mike Moran’s human brain. They do not think the same way or process or feel things the same way. The longer he stays as Miracleman the more detached and superior and godlike he acts and feels.

If he CHOSE to transform back into his human form as Mick, he would immediately feel and think differently. And probably realise how fucking stupid and gross his world is. The dude literally lives in a giant palace called Olympus above the rest of the world lmao

It’s so bizarre. Go read the older issues of Miracleman before the time skip to the future after he’s been ruling for decades. Miracleman actually acts like a human being mostly. He talks normally. He has emotions. He doesn’t act bizarre or uncaring.

Also remember Kid Miracleman? He stayed as his super form for decades after the attempt to kill him with that nuke and it clearly drove him mad with power. Yet the SECOND he transformed back into his human child form he was filled with massive regret and despair over all the people he killed. Kid Miracleman might as well have been a different person from the boy he was even if they had the same memories

Just look at this simple example of MM getting mad. I can’t even imagine him getting angry in the present comics. He’s so unemotional even when it regards personal relationships. He barely had any facial expression after Dickie punched him and ran off after he kissed him, even though Dickie was very distressed and even accused MM of basically molesting Kid Miracleman and that’s what made him go bad

                Anonymous

This is very true. If both minds act and think differently, then truly they are two different people but both need each other in this new, crazy galaxy. A world without MM is likely going to go kaput to retarded superhumans, a world without Mike Moran humanizing MM is already a dystopia.

Perhaps there could be a way to have dual consciousnesses? Have both MM and Mike Moran coexist? It'll be hard, but likely the best solution for humanity at large

                Anonymous

I don’t see how it would work. Having multiple brains you swap your consciousness between definitely seems to fuck with your mind. Especially when one brain is significantly different in design to another. I would assume most aliens and normie superpowered beings in miracleman’s earth only have different bodies they swap. Not major brain differences.

If I was Gaiman I’d probably do pic related. The way Kid Miracleman was like a split personality talking to Bates.

I’d do this kind of thing for Miracleman. Have Mike start talking in his head trying to convince him to stop being such a cunt. Just become human again for five minutes and see if you feel the same way about all the things you’ve done

                Anonymous

I always found this part of the comic interesting, as we do not see MM and Mike Moran discuss like this. It's very likely this KMM in Bates' head actually IS a delusion created by Bates and isn't real, as KMM's brain is in stasis and not connected. It's as if Bates is imagining what KMM would say and do to trick him and, as it is a delusion, letting himself be tricked and hurt to later resolve a horrible situation.

For Mike and MM to exist simultaneously in one body would be the best solution. Perhaps it could even be a Mike Moran AI robot clone that MM listens to in order to stay grounded. Of course, the clone will be from before be realized he was MM and began the depression spiral.

I think the big difference is that Kid Miracleman was what, 12 when he decided to become a superpowered adult forever?

It’s a pretty big shock to spend 20+ years as a grown man. Growing up mentally and being an adult physically. Then shoved back into the mind and body of a child with a child’s grasp of emotions, morality and fragility. He had a complete nervous breakdown precisely because humans are not equipped to deal with doing shit like he did. Especially not kids

Mike on the other hand experienced life growing up into a middle aged man, and only then did he decide to become Miracleman forever. He doesn’t have the same kind of dissonance because mentally the gap is smaller.

                Anonymous

True, Mike only started creating dissonance between himself and his MM brain when everyone loved his MM self way, way more than as Mike. His wife literally craved his MM body more than she ever did when he was human. Perhaps a strange incident that forces him to become Mike to live would jumpstart a huge epiphany, especially with the mountain hermit in his memories.

The Warpsmiths are so powerful it doesn’t seem like anybody could ever be a realistic threat. And earth is very much a newcomer with these superbeings and creating new super bodies to swap between. Miracleman was written by Alan Moore AND Neil Gaiman. Marvel bought the character and untangled the reprint rights solely so they can have their very own Moore and Gaiman books as evergreen titles, especially given that the Moore run in particular is considered by many to be his magnum opus.

As for Miracleman crossing over with the Marvel Universe, the only way to really make that work would be if the plot was Galactus showing up in Miracleman's universe, kicking Miracleman's ass, and him having to bring the FF, Avengers, and X-Men to his universe to save his bacon against Galactus.

wasn't there some leak claiming the big twist will be that Dickie was originally a girl and his "normal" form is as much an experimental construct as his super body?

        Two stories have floated around:

        1. That Miraclewoman tried to turn MM into a pedo/have him fuck Dickie to have Dickie freak out and kill MM in a gay panic so Miraclewoman could take over the world and when that fails, she's going to unleash Kid Miracleman and have him destroy the planet fighting MM but die the instant KMM is set free because KMM is evil.

        2. The whole "Dickie is a chick forced to be a man" thing, which makes zero sense given everything we've seen with Dickie so far in the series, plus that such a reveal seems to be only being made because Neil pussied out on Miraclewoman being evil.

I distinctly remember this page having different art in the oiriginal 90’s printing. This was the final issue before it got cancelled originally. Where Dickie runs off, MM talks to MW. Look at her. She looks pretty fucking happy considering what he told her

In the original art her facial expression was much more neutral. Makes sense if she is the downfall of Miracleman. The whole Olympus angle is begging for it to collapse from within.

However I also really don’t trust Gaiman to depict a woman as being evil these days

        >is trying to make a race of superior humans

        He’s a fascist

They’ll just give him a power boost by the magic of writing to explain why they can’t beat him for some reason. He will probably do some crazy shit like pick up Thor’s hammer and beat captain America to death with it so Sam can take over again

When will Marvel and DC greenlight a crossover comic called "The Marvels" starring Mar-Vell resurrectedMonica Rambeau, Kamala Khan, Carol Danvers, Genis-Vell, Phyla-Vell, Miracleman, Marvelman (meme OC created for the run) and the Shazamily?

They will never resurrect Mar-Vell because he literally died of cancer, it was treated incredibly seriously, and they made great efforts to never have it be undone by future writers. He’s appeared a bunch of times since. But always in the context that he is dead in the present day. So he’s either appeared as a spirit, or people meet him after travelling into the past

Since it’s a Kang story called Timeless. It would be a perfect opportunity to have Kang’s time fuckery bring Mar-Vell to the present from the past before he got sick for the event, as long as they send him back so he can still die of cancer lol

They tried that with Civil War and it was so widely bashed they had to retcon it as a Skrull.

And at this point, they might as well just bring him back to life since even Bucky and Gwen Stacy are alive again.

The Skrull thing was always intended. The original plan was to make Gravity into Captain Marvel which is why he was killed in Beyond; he was supposed to be resurrected as the new Captain Marvel. But Marvel decided against it and instead did the Skrull-Vell fake out as a way to lead into Secret Invasion.

Just because Marvel later claimed it was always intended doesn't mean it was REALLY always intended. Marvel and DC change their plans all the time and claim what we got was ALWAYS the real plan. The other anon was more likely right that they changed their plans after the general apathy that greeted Mar-Vell's return in Civil War.

It’s interesting in the sense that it’s more about world building what exactly happens if superman takes over the world but he isn’t evil. Some of the pages showing how infantilised the world has become, how its antithetical to how human beings are even supposed to live etc

When multiverse shenanigans occur, MM will encounter a Super Gargunza world and be horrified that Nobody seeks cancer, instead they seem to subjugate the galaxy and work hard to please Herr Gargunza. People are much more fulfilled, happy, and raise their children with love under the watchful eyes of Herr Gargunza.
