I haven't watched it but honistly it reminds me more of the game A Story About My Uncle, then magic girl anime.
I didn't get that vibe from it.

        Oh hey an actual response.

I didn't watch Steven Universe. Maybe I am praising Amphibia, it's not a perfect show. But I stand by my decision of Sasha so many shows have a cheerleader just be a b***h and never go into her. Like Bonnie who had one episode of "oh, her sister bully her" compared to a whole series of her being a b***h to Kim.

        I stand by my decision.

The only one I can think of is that artist that made the Saint Olga's AU that has asked viewers to never talk to him about Star vs. ever again.
The OC queens guy at least decided to give Karma to Star by making the Cleaving of the Worlds the worst decision she ever made.

I don't know about character assassination.
Poorly handled what it was going for (like everything involving the series) but I don't think it was intentional character assassination.
The overview of a child growing up with a shit load of mental and emotional baggage and complex PTSD from going through all that fricking shit sounds interesting and had a lot of potential. It's just they kinda botched the execution in many ways (again, as usual for the show).

I've never gotten into fandoms. I'll chat with fans, sure, but actual fandoms are always led by the biggest egos with the worst opinions. Sure, every so often they'll do a charity drive or something nice, but before you know it, they're actively trying to get an artist to kill themselves or attacking the creators because they finished the series with the 'wrong' ship.

        Anonymous

I know that we don’t like to identify with the word “fandom” around here, but I really do consider our cartoon general threads to be one entry point of accessing “the fandom” of a show.

          Anonymous

It’s almost certainly happened more than once, but most famously it happened to a Steven Universe fan that drew Rose Quartz too thin one time.

          Anonymous

The most famous one was a Steven Universe artist who did a bunch of fan art of Rose Quartz when literally all that was seen of her was 'floofy hair and poofy dress', literally the bare minimum of an outline. Lots of people had drawn art of her with all kinds of looks, body-types and so on, but one girl's art in particular was really popular and caught on in the way things do in fannish circles. Then we actually saw Rose, and it turned out the real Rose was about three times heavier than about 90% of the art of her out there. And thus, the backlash began. It's worth mentioning that, I don't know exactly how old this girl was, but I don't think she was north of 16/17. And it was a small group who attacked her, but they hounded her relentlessly. Her parents checked her into a hospital after she tried to kill herself two or three times. She was a good artist, but frick, those people were monsters.

There was also the time someone did a bunch of MLP characters in Native American dress, you can imagine how that went. I think it came out the artist themselves was actually Native, but the damage was already done. And this one idiot controversy where an artist was accused of whitewashing Korra because she had lighter skin in a piece of art. The art itself had her facing a strong light source, which, common sense would tell you washes everything out, but noooooooo...

There's plenty of others, but those are a couple of the ones that made waves outside the usual fannish circles. Moral of the story: fandoms are nightmarish realms where the worst people form cliques around themselves and get people to attack the things they don't like. Never, ever get involved with them.

            Anonymous

At this point, it's old hat. The new vogue is fandom teens and young adults trying to cyber-bully crew members on shows into killing themselves because someone drew a ship or a fanart they don't like on Twitter. Drawing smutty stuff on a private account is tantamount to sex crimes, obviously.

    Problem Solvers.

Was expecting so bad it would be funny.
Instead it was just actively annoying in every way and gave me a actual head ache due to the flashing visuals and bad audio mixing.
It isn't bad because of shit messaging or culture war bullshit. It isn't bad because of money people meddling. It isn't even bad because the people involved just made mistakes and didn't know any better but tried.
It's bad because the creators made foundational decisions to intentionally make the show as unpleasant as possible for whatever reason. How they ever convinced anyone to give them money to make a show is beyond me. Must have been one hell of a misleading pitch.

I actually had a better time watching magical girl friendship squad and 12 oz mouse despite both being total shit in every way. Like they were bad but they were at least they weren't physically painful to attempt to watch.

The creator of the show, Ben Jones, was part of an art collective called Paper Rad. Problem Solverz is one of the rare examples of the fine arts seeping into animation.

Paper Rad was known for their aggressively colorful and trippy art, but they're also known for their purposeful incompetence; the mid-2000s was an odd time in the fine arts. A lot of works made badly and with a moronic, childish aesthetic were the cream of the crop at the time. Pic related is a series of works by my favorite painter, Joe Bradley, a friend of Ben Jones.

I find the art made by those dudes pretty interesting. They were unabashedly terrible, and they didn't give a frick. They did their thing, and put it out there without a care for its reception. I find that to be a pretty inspiring way to go about things.

        Anonymous

Intresting, though I will dispute that you are misusing and misunderstanding what fine art means.

        [fine art
        noun

Art produced or intended primarily for beauty rather than utility.
Any of the art forms, such as sculpture, painting, or music, used to create such art.
Something requiring highly developed techniques and skills.]

What they did is what is called modern/conceptual art, not fine art.
Fine art is basically synonymous with "classical" or "traditional" art.
Fancy skillful paintings with a high degree of technical accuracy, classical marble sculptures, etc.

          Anonymous

          Nah, dude, that's ridiculous.
The definition of what is fine art has liberalized a frickton throughout the years that the drawings that I posted are squarely within the category. Go to any of a major city's fine arts museums, and you'll find similar works to Joe Bradley's.

Standards of beauty means different things to many people, and you'll find that they aren't particularly high in art institutions nowadays. The same applies to standards concerning skills and technique.

You may not like the fact that works by people like Joe Bradley are considered fine art, but if your contention is that it's shit art, then just call it shit art. Saying it's not fine art is like saying that a Marvel movie isn't a movie because it's shit and has too much CG.

            Anonymous

Dude, I litterally have a degree in fine art.
That shit isn't by any strech in the catagory of fine art, wouldn't be sold as fine art.

Conceptual art, and modern art has a totally separate market and is it's own category of art totally separate from fine art.
It is really simple to look up how art is categorized and what is and is not fine art.
This is middle school art class levels of knowledge that you are fricking up.
Stop playing a fool and learn what words mean.

        Laughed hard.
Harder then I laughed at any of those shitty shows.

I mean, a quiet chuckle would be more than those shows were worth, but I appreciate the compliment.

Aside from the dumpy main ex-pro girl who was an actual assault on my eyes, I completely enjoyed this one.

It's kind of funny I remember as a kid girls would put heart stickers on everything. Said heart stickers would sometimes have designs on them look way more than this.

Like all it takes to stir up shit is a heart and two colors put together.

If the situation were reversed someone would have lost their job, lol.
