Yeah, but it was expected to a major blockbuster and very very heavily marketed. Expectations on the movie were huge and it got a pretty major backlash. It also faced a pretty steep hill with all the reported set and filming problems. In some ways it reminds me of Spielbergs later “Hook” with Williams & Hoffman, that struggled with some the same issues. I think an auteur like Altman was somehow being positioned or shilled by PR and studios into that tentpole “Speilberg” director type when that’s never been his thing
The one on the left killed himself
He has already played Popeye, his work here was done.
And rightfully so
That's Hollywood code for got murdered.
And Kubrick killed one the one on the right (mentally)
dumb boomer myth
Prove it. List every credible source a reference you have.
The Beast Rabban as Bluto was also good.
Good morninggggggggg Popeye
>If the professor calls about that job just tell him, sorry.
>I yam what I yam an' tha's all I yam
>Son of a b***h.
>He stole my line.
this movie made the chick on he right go crazy, never lived a normal life after it.
Good post.
Why did you post an image from a 60's spiderman comic?
>plays a Mexican better than any actual Mexican
If you work for a living,
why do you have a nice day working?
I have nightmares about this movie
you too?
I often dream of exploring Sweet Haven
Kelsey Grammer as Beast.
Relentlessly underrated Altman kino. Critics and audiences at the time absolutely got this one wrong. It’s tremendous.
The idea that Popeye was a failure is actually a myth. It made 3x its budget and received moderately good reviews at the time

Yeah I remember seeing an Altman interview where he says people were expecting something like Superman but instead they got a Robert Altman film
This is Altman's best film and I will die on that hill.
The Flintstones in the same vein.
Rosie O'Donnell is not a good Betty. Betty should be cute and skinny.
Wilma could be better too but is not as bad.
Betty wasn't fat
Three out of four ain't bad.
Great movie
Who played bluto and the hamburger guy or whatever
Bluto was big man israeli actor Paul Smith who played Hamidou in Midnight Expess and many other heavy kind of roles.
Wimpy was Paul Dooley who's still alive.
I remember that song in the movie about food.
Best casting of the year
My homie Yabushige had flawless drip and kino lines
Terrible popeye but a perfect olive oyl
it's kinda crazy how an actress existed who not only looked just like Olive Oyl but also gave the best performance imaginable
Seriously? You'd have to be high as shit to cast these two in a musical. They sounded terrible.
They just sound like the characters singing
And dude weed to you, sir
??
Pic related is the opposite. Every actor is bad for their role, but the story made the movie great.
>HE NEEDS ME HE NEEDS ME HE NEEDS ME
Used masterfully in Punch Druk Love too
Haven't watched that film in years.
No, Robin Williams' features are not quite exaggerated enough to be Popeye.
