Not OP. It didn’t change my life at all but was very entertaining. I enjoy it when Christians are made uncomfortable. One guy was ok until I reminded him that his kids would die and their life was meaningless. They’re brave in the face of death until you mention their kids. They always told me “dude just wait until you have a kid. When you look at something so beautiful and pure that was made out of love… you’ll believe in god, I promise.” Lol. Lmao

Why do you believe in God? What gave you faith? If it was your parents, don't even reply.
I want to know how one finds God on their own. I just can't find anything there that is believable

      Anonymous

In terms of why I believe in God, a supernatural creator is a prerequisite of the universe. If all physical things have are an effect with a cause, there must be a root cause not subject to the same laws. Where did matter come from? Why did it start expanding? How did the unlikely miracle of life happen? Without some kind of Creator these problems can't be solved.
In regards to why I believe the words of the Bible, I can't really put it into words. There are too many times in my life where I've read it and it had the perfect bit of wisdom, too many times it provided me with a real sense of something greater, for me to overlook it. I understand if that's not terribly convincing, but faith is a personal thing that you have to feel to understand, I think

        Anonymous

That implies human logic is the only way to understand the universe. The fact that we dont know how to answer those question is no excuse to give it a face, an intention and a book.

          Anonymous

You explained you don’t know how to answer the question so why should we give a frick about your opinion on the matter?

            Anonymous

You don't know how to answer the question either, genius. Except we don't just make up our own answers based on the imaginary will of our invisible sky daddy. We just accept that we don't know the answer & move on with our lives. Maybe someone will figure it out some day?

why are atheists so unbelievably fricking moronic?

        Anonymous

I personally think that religion does an amazing job filling some kind of an emptiness inside people. It can give your life meaning and a direction when things are going badly otherwise. Religion definitely has its place in modern society still.

      Anonymous

You have to actually do shit in your life to engender that sort of perspective. Years ago I would volunteer, meditate, come up with poems and songs and write about what I was grateful for etc. That was me at my most religious although I never adhered to any specific creed. Now I barely go outside and i’m agnostic again

      >Why do you believe in God? What gave you faith? If it was your parents, don't even reply.

This is a hilarious strawman that atheists love to use. As if we do ANYTHING because our parents told us to.

Do you people really think the geniuses that believed in God were just uncritically accepting things their whole lives, and they never thought of the points you bring up? Descartes questioned literally everything, his own existence, and still continued to believe. Of course he must have some reasons. You aren't braver or more intelligent than guys like that lol.

Now, you can be skeptical and run the whole gauntlet, which if you can even manage it, is a painful experience that brings you right back to where your parents left you off. Or you can do what most people do about 99% of things, and what is totally reasonable and useful, have faith and move on and be patient that life will reveal more with time. This is the best option for 99% of people. The vast majority of people aren't suited to think deeply about religion and they only end up half considering things, if that, and they get stuck at some point where their intelligence gives out and make that the basis of their beliefs.

        Anonymous

The difference is that Descartes didn't believe in Yahweh, the hebrew God. The idiots ITT do.

nta but wasn't descartes thing that he believed int he essense of god and therefore there was a god. seemed kinda dumb to me, like "i think there is a god therefore there is a god".. not really a compelling argument.

Suddenly Mr. "Why don't religious people believe in science?" is suddenly not asking this question to liberal trannies.

                >Maybe something that has been around for a thousand years and reigned over society for much, much longer, deserved his bigger reaction, yeah?
Incorrect. His argument was based in anti-science. "How can religious people be sooooo anti-science?" But when libtards are anti-science he completely ignores the anti-science aspect of it. It's really sad and shows what a pathetic homosexual Bill Maher is.
His opinions on free speech are even worse
                >"Celebrities should stop apologizing to the Twitter mob!"

In the original scriptures the lamia, or the lilitu, are one of the desert demons. Before the Bible was edited to be moved away from their more mystical origins there were a lot of supernatural creatures described.

I don't like this movie. Most of the guys Bill Maher pokes fun at in this movie are just people trying to worship in peace. There's a lot to criticize and poke fun of about religious bureaucracy and how religion invades American politics, but it feels like Maher punches down when he makes fun of that one trucker church or the jesus actor.

Take the agnosticism pill. Religitards and gaytheists are equally stupid.
To have total belief in one thing or the other implies you have enough knowledge to form a certainty, which neither groups have.

Nothing to do with our universe's conception is certain.

Old Testament: “Show no pity: life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.” – Deuteronomy 19:21
                But Jesus contradicts this directly:

Jesus: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” – Matthew 5:38–39

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:43-48

Old Testament: ‘If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.” – Leviticus 20:10

Jesus famously ignored this command when they brought the woman caught in adultery to him:
Jesus: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground….”Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.'” – John 8:3-11

Look, you could absolutely say that 2000 years of its history reinforces the possibility of God's existence, but declaring it as proof is wrong and you know it.

All of us that had to go through the 90's know how much of a poison this shit is.
Of course for them it's easy to take this moronic contrarian position, because they were born from Millenial parents that were probably atheist leftists. So they don't have anyone enforcing their religion on them, they can just turn on the PC and post moronic images of Jesus hugging Wojak and feel this sense of belonging and that's it, their commitment ends at that. There's no one to make them read the Bible (which they have never done), no one to make them go to Church.

              >How many Christians in the US are well read again?
Irrelevant. The US has been turned into a third world shithole by capitalist bankers. The country was a beautiful, enlightened place before it was subverted morally and financially. And in case you've got any more boring arguments in your pocket, most serious Christians hate megachurch Christianity.

I was OBVIOUSLY fricking dismissive of the part about christians reading great literature, not writing. It's impossible to quantify the value of all literature written by christians and by not christians, only a moronic nu-christian on Cinemaphile would make that argument.

I know a lot of Christians who read classic historians and apologists like Lewis and Chesterton at minimum but even if I concede the point, I think 1/10 atheists I've ever known in person has any serious commitment to intellectual pursuits. The one that comes to mind was a turbo autist and no one liked him.

The rest instantly converted to SJW-Christianity, became swingers, or became consooooomers.

The reason I'm defending the other anon's point is because atheist bigotry is annoying and self-righteous.

I keep asking for a timestamp of their Bibles when they rear their ugly heads and they never do it. They don't even know about older versions like the Septuagint and how vastly different it is from modern texts.
They're shit at being Christians, so I mock them.

            >Atheist superiority complex
It's funny how atheists think this sort of reasoning is compelling. By the way the most staunch atheists will jerk off Darwinian but reject the consequences of Darwinian evolution. They'll never be honest about race or transgenderism for example because their New Religion isn't based on science, it's based on ego and fitting in with the herd.

            >Religion is superstition
Religious people study the the reasonableness or unreasonableness of the texts for years, observe others behaviors before/after accepting (presupposing) the religious texts ideas, and so on. And they live happy lives in touch with their family and community when done right. To say it's superstition let alone pure superstition is just strawmanning the lowest common denominator.

Religious faith isn't about historicity and cosmological arguments, it is about lifestyle and community. This is something no New Atheist critic ever brings up nor are they honest about the blindspots in their own ideology. I know because I've read them.

                >superiority complex <wants you to worship its fiction variation.
I'm not a Christian as I stated previously. Darwinists avoid the intellectual and moral consequences of Darwinism. It's pretty funny how flimsy their scientific rationalist framework is when you apply the least amount of pressure to it. The answer, then, is not believing superstitious or insane beliefs, but accepting that you don't know everything and maybe relating to other people with a bit more humanity. Or you could post barely coherent sentences on 4 channel. That's an option too, I guess.

Fiath isn't believing without evidence. Faith is believing in God's actions and choices. It's not believing God itself with zero evidence. Most Christians have evidence. That's why they're Christians. It's about trusting God's plan.

Turns out Atheists are dumber than the religious they mock. They spent a decade happily pulling religion down, and now years later regrettably admit they were completely fricking wrong. Even the biggest morons like Richard Dawkins now admit he made a mistake and that religion serves a purpose.
