They defintely do tho? Like it has spider-man's powers because it bonded to him, thats how it was potrayed originally, it might have gotten retconned tho.

It was retconned, probably to explain why Venom and Carnage didn't have Spider-Sense. There’s a single line about the symbiote not actually enhancing Peter’s strength either, from one of the original venom stories.

I guess, but there's no reason why they shouldnt have an equivalent anyways.
Well yeah, but those original stories show eddie having the same powerset as peter plus cloth shapeshifting and webbing which the suit always had, the extra ones got added in later.

        [...]
Symbiote just simply can DO Spider-Man's abilities. It doesn't actually have webbing (which wouldn't make sense because that isn't Spider-Man's power), it shoots tendrils of itself out, and because it has shapeshifting abilities it makes it look like webbing

I'm pretty sure I even recall a fairly early Venom encounter where Spider-Man uses this to his advantage, making Venom "use up" itself

Eh, that came later, at first it certainly gave eddie the agility and strenght peter had, just added to his natural one. The shapeshifting was always there, and venom didnt start using tendrils untill way later.

No that was because of the webbing which was something peter couldnt do anyways and a suit exclusive power.

Yeah, it’s dumb, but it’s also inconsistent. OP’s story Poison-X, Venom: The End, and Cates’ shit all show the symbiotes copying powers.

Not to mention every single adaptation going with them copying powers (except for the USM show, i think). But with the whole enchance thing added on top.

I prefer when it copies powers and to an extent makes them more powerful, because the theme with venom is too strong, but we dont get to cosmic level shit, y'know?

But as you can see here, Venom makes its "webbing" out of its own mass, it's just symbiote goop shapeshifted to look like webs

            Anonymous

Yes, but we didnt see it manifesting its own mass as anything but webbing and clothing, even in its second apperaence the suffocating a guard thing was done using its own mass with a clothing texture, it got turned into more expansive later.

And yeah that was something the suit could always do, it doesnt really change that it was certainly potrayed as copying peter's powers.

Holy shit you’re right. Peter had web shooters at the time. Damn so that kinda makes it lamer. I like the idea it does minor absorption.

Like bio abilities only (couldn’t go on storm and then control the weather when someone else wears it).

Like bio abilities only (couldn’t go on storm and then control the weather when someone else wears it).

More like a bastardized, more primal and brutal, corrupted version of the original. So, in Storm's case, just straight up spews lighting bolts.

Symbiotes themselves don't copy powers, but apparently absorbing codices that symbiotes leave in their former hosts allows you to gain their powers, even if briefly. Eddie's got Cap's strategic mind, Hawkeye's vision, Thing's strength and Wolverine's... rage?... when he absorbed their codices. Carnage also got temporary Ghost Rider powers when he absorbed Alejandra Jones' codex.

I prefer it when Symbiotes do copy powers though

Especially like Web of Shadows where they can pass on those abilities to their offspring which creates mobs of symbiote Electros or Vultures or Wolverines

One big misconception, even from Marvel themselves, is that the symbiotes are a race and not just alien goo from a mystery machine that Spider-Man accidently used.

If a symbiote took over someone with powers why wouldn't it be able to use them? That's dumb

Another misconception is that the Penance Stare is supposed to inflict guilt on the target, and if they don't feel guilt they are immune to it.

Blame this one on that Thunderbolts issue with Punisher. There were any number of reasons it wouldn’t work, including the hell sword he had on him, or the time he became an Angel, which was referenced a few issues prior

with a symbiote attached, can scott make the punch dimension manifest anywhere on his body? does he still need the lenses, or can a symbiote create some sort of alternative? and how does the symbiote alter the texture of angels wings? they should be big black feathery wings, not leathery bat wings, right
