The movie kept beating you over the head on how 'dumb' the male characters were (ok yes I get it, they're pirates, they lack vernacular, they got caught up on 'horology' etc) but the movie lacked any subtlety.
Also, IMO, 4 > 5 because the whole lore about Jack becoming a captain as some teen faced bopper was contrived as hell. It felt tacky , something that should've been left as Jacks mysterious background, except it felt in line like the shitty situation Nick Fury's character from Marvel, where we're lead to believe for 10 movies+ that Fury's face scar is some badass war wound, and we learn in the end some cute space cat scratched it instead. Wtf?

Both are shit but objectively I'd say that 5 is the more competent one, despite so many awful choices. 4 is just complete nonsense from a writing perspective, the mermaid and the priest? Why did they even exist? Just to have some poor man's Will and Elizabeth, even if they were completely irrelevant? Blackbeard and his daughter's family drama? Again complete nonsense. And the Spanish guys showing up at the end just to casually destroy the fountain and leave is so moronic that it gets into so bad it's good territory.
